Tom. I believe if it’s a ship sponsored excursion, the ship typically has to wait. I know this as in a past cruise, we had taken a very long ship sponsored excursion which ended up being over an hour late. Needless to say, the ships officers weren’t very happy as the four buses of cruise passengers showed up at the dock.

Absolutely, ships typically wait for passengers if they're on a sponsored excursion, though there are exceptions, like when they need to leave due to changing tides or to make space for another cruise ship arriving in a busy port. However, if the ship does depart while a sponsored excursion is delayed, the cruise line is responsible for ensuring those passengers catch up to the ship at the next port, at no extra cost to the passengers. In this instance at the Royal Naval Dockyard, there was only one other ship docked, which fortunately meant our ship could wait a bit longer without any issues.

Trust me. This is not the first time these people have been late. If the ship excursion was late, the ship will wait. But, being late because of your own carelessness is something that should warrant a fine.

I always get back to the ship 1-2 hours before departure. I don't know why people gamble with their vacation. However, it does entertain a whole bunch of folks. Nice to meet you, Fraser!

Same. As a seasoned cruiser and very time efficient myself, my family and I always follow the 90 minute rule for the “all aboard” time. If the departure time is 4:30pm, get back at 2:30pm. Being stranded is always my biggest fear so we always follow that 90 minute rule every time we cruise.

Wow! Just looking at pic of the pier is making me envious of the turquoise waters, warm breezes, steel drums, and fruity drinks I know people are enjoying there. I just got back from myrtle beach and unfortunately, the Atlantic ocean looks nothing like the beautiful water in ur video

Myrtle Beach is a great place. However, you can't beat the water in the Caribbean and Bermuda. Consider a cruise to Bermuda from NYC for your next vacation. It's a very cost-effective way of getting down there for a few days. I have a bunch of videos covering this exact route if you are interested.

I was on a 21 day HAL cruise last November . We waited at several ports for late people not on excursions. They paged people to report immediately to the reception in case they were on board. The captain said since it was Thanksgiving he would be nice.

I have been on several cruises and this happens on every one.. I make it a point to book all excursions through the cruise line.. No matter what you might save booking at the port, it will disappear quickly if they are late and you have to fly to the next port on your dime.. I have never been close to being late and am one of the many other cruisers that stand and laugh at the inconsiderate people that think they are more important than the other 3000+ passengers are.

We went on our first cruise last week. We stop at Cozumel which is a classic for pier runners. We were warned at least 3 times the night before and in the morning to keep an eye on ship time. I thought we were not gonna see pier runners because we were on the first meal time and the ship was leaving at 5pm. When we were done eating, I told my husband that we should go on the deck and see if there's pier runners, because the ship was still at the pier. Oh boy, we got quite a show. There was our ship and another one (almost identical). The other ship departed a minute later, 3 young runners arrived. The first guy saw the ship leaving and waved in despair... But, in the end, they were passengers on our ship, but that was quite a show!

Cruise ships are charged by the port by the hours that they are docked, big money

There were 2 passengers who missed the ship and were left in Bermuda. You don't see them because they never showed up. It's why the ship waited even after the runners boarded.

I could not find any specifics. While searching, the only statistic I found was that 200 people went missing on cruise ships since 2000.

Me I will never return back to the cruise port late because That is nothing to play around with! Me I don't get back on time I usually Get Back Before Time. If the cruise ship arrives to the port at 8am and passengers get off the ship that gives you 9hrs so that's a long time to get back if the ship is leaving the docks at 5pm you wanna head back between 2:30 or 3:00 to get back way before five o'clock smh there's some people just don't know what time is!

ummmmmm the delayed ship excursion wasn't "lucky" they inform the cruise ships if they are running late and the ships wait for them, if the ships don't this is really bad for business, it is one of the reasons taking a ship run excursion is recommended by most

While ship-sponsored excursions are generally considered a "safer" way to explore a port, passengers can still be left behind if certain conditions arise. If the tide changes or another ship needs to dock, the ship can-and has-departed without waiting, regardless of whether the excursion was sponsored by the cruise line or not.

No, it's not. Get your facts straight before calling people out. A few months ago, I was on the Celebrity Summit and caught someone who almost missed the ship. This is on the NCL Gem cruise a few weeks ago. Different people, different time, same port.
