This has been around. This and that side of the family whether something else or passing has long been around. Funny people are homeless and on the street for various reasons with no family. They always ask if they have family and try to find some family. What about white wealthy families that adopt children of different races including darker skin black children. There are tons of mixed race people now, it's fucking normal. You don't have to side with just White or just Black. She's talking as if she's oppressed! I'm half Cambodian, half French and that's what I say when someone asks me the question. I've had people tell me they thought I was Latina, Vietnamese, Indian, Italian, Chinese or from Hawaii, that's not going to make me cry and start learning Spanish, Vietnamese, Italian or any language from the people they identify me with 😂 And I really face palmed when that blonde girl said "I am a straight passing bisexual woman"... really? You cannot "pass" for a sexual orientation 🤦🏻♀️Why are the US so obsessed with race and sexual orientation? Always have to scream at your face what they are but then they'll also cry about not bringing race and sexual orientation into things when that's all they ever talk about. Yes, the USA might have been built on race but it's time to let go on both sides if you guys ever want to see real change.

My dad's brother was as white as any white person. You could not tell that he was mixed. He chose not to pass. You cannot tell a lot of mixed people from black people. I know mixed people who are actually darker than black people. We are so mixed as a country that discrimination should not exist. The one drop rule has always been absolutely ridiculous. One drop of black blood is supposed to make you black? But does one drop of any race make you completely that race? I think not. If everyone was required to take a DNA test there would be a lot less hate in this world.

For me, If you look white, then you are white and If you look black then you are black. Though, I despite these 2 terms. This woman who says she is black, is probably 20-30% African because her mother was fully European and her father mixed, she looks like that. If you are 0.1% Africa, then you are not black. EVERY person in the world has at least 0.3% African DNA because people originated from Africa, even the most white Russians have African DNA. If she wants to claim she is part African then it's cool, but she is not black, because black is simply a color, and her skin color is white. Honestly, you Americans make me sick with the obsession you have with race. Just accept the fact you are all Americans. Also, even the "pure" African Americans have at least 10-20% European DNA since they mixed with "whites" all these years.

You just need something to complain about. Asking someone "what are you?" Isn't offensive at all. It's a common question among all groups of people. Only people who are uncomfortable with their heritage get offended by that question. It's just a conversational ice breaker. From there they may ask you about foods and hobbies to make a connection. It's quite obvious that you are human. You're being overly sensitive over an innocent question.

I have more detailed comments but I think I am not in a position to judge anyone in the video so I am addressing to the editors. Our perceptions of race and gender may be subjective but most of the time we are right. The worst is to identify someone(right or wrong) with a certain group and discriminate based on that. This video is pushing the limits to milk the racial sensitivity cow without any relevant content. But again, it's only one guy's opinion. Don't lynch me please.

Not to split "ethnic hairs" here ... but ... that first woman who says that SHE'S BLACK bcuz her father is black ... Ummmmmmmm ... and her mom IS WHITE ... DOESN'T THAT MAKE HER JUST AS WHITE EQUALLY ... she's 50% Black and 50% White ... so SHE HAS NO RIGHT TO GET PISSY WITH PEOPLE WHO THINK SHE'S WHITE ...or who say that she's white ... BCUZ SHE IS JUST AS MUCH WHITE AS SHE IS BLACK...!!! Why on earth are so many people DENYING "THE WHITE" in them and CLAIMING THE MINORITY RACE AS THEIR PRIME IDENTIFYING RACE ... !?!? ... it's like the Aboriginal people where I live ... some of them ARE GLOW IN THE DARK WHITE AND HEAD TO TOE "FLAMING GINGERS" and their Great Grandmother was 1/4 Aboriginal ... SO THEY SAY THAT THEY'RE ABORIGINAL...!!! 😱😵😱 Personally I think they're ONLY doing it for ONE REASON ... and ONE REASON ONLY ... and it can be summed up in ONLY ONE WORD ... and that word is "BENEFITS"...!!! The aboriginals here GET A FULL FREE RIDE ... IN EVERY WAY - INCLUDING FREE UNIVERSITY - FREE DENTAL - basically FREE EVERYTHING...!!! And being completely honest ... if I held a Golden Aboriginal Ticket 😵 I'd use it too...!!! My question is ... exactly HOW THIN does the bloodline have to get before the benefits stop rolling in...?!? My family lost ALL OF THEIR LAND - A CASTLE AND AMAZING GOLD - DIAMOND AND RUBY JEWELLERY LOCATED IN THE ALPS DURING WWII ... it was JUST TAKEN from them by the Nazi's and they threw my Grandfather in the truck and took him off to a Concentration Camp in Siberia ... my family DIDN'T SELL their land and the castle for some Firewater and some shiny beads ... AND YET I'M NOT BEING COMPENSATED FOR THE LOSS IN ANY WAY 😵 ... it was all just filed away under " shit happens" and then they went on and did the best that they could. I DO NOT AT ALL believe in the whole "Reparations" ... IF YOU DO IT FOR ONE RACE ... THEN YOU HAVE TO DO IT FOR EACH AND EVERY RACE THAT WAS OPPRESSED - ABUSED IN ANY WAY - AND STOLEN FROM DURING TIMES OF WAR AND IN A DIFFERENT CENTURY ... and to do so IS UTTER AND SHEER INSANITY...!!! I MISS THE GOOD OLD DAYS WHEN DELUSIONS WERE RARE ... AND CLASSIFIED AS A "MENTAL ILLNESS" and then TREATED ... delusions weren't ENCOURAGED and NO ONE WAS EXPECTED TO "PLAY ALONG" WITH THE DELUSION for fear that the persons feelings might get hurt 😵 ... SUCK IT UP BUTTERCUP ... WE HAVE BECOME THE LAND OF DELUSIONS...!!!

The reason why Rebekah was 'mistaken' as Latina was not a mistake at all. She was simply assumed to be what the uniform word Latina has been applied to very frequently in Spanish culture: mixed-race people of African descent. Many Puerto Ricans/Dominicans/Brazilians are similar to us in that they're European and African in descent sometimes with Indigenous heritage too. How is that different from those of us mixed in America? Like I said, traditions and history are simply different. Mixed-race Americans had the one drop rule applied to them, mixed-race people of the Latin world did not but we're all part white, part black here. It kinda irritates me when a whole bunch of mixed people are called and regarded as different things when the only dividing factor is culture here, let's be real.
@yippehanako5 жыл бұрын
So...you're mixed? Okay? That's what we are, we don't all look the same. Some favor one race all the way, it's not the end of the world. If you don't want to explain it to everyone (I get tired of it too) just don't answer. If I don't feel like explaining who my parents are I just say, "I'm American". I know what I am so idc if some stranger thinks I'm white. They'd be half right anyways so I'm not gonna stress about what anyone else thinks I am. The truth is the truth

Yep. And sometimes too many people, on both the white and the black sides, tend to lose that fact of common sense when it comes to those of us who are Black and White mixed. Both Black and White people tend to have SO MUCH to say, rather, bark at us (quite frequently) on an experience they don't have immediate access to--although Black Americans tend to have much more insight on mixed ancestry considering the history of the Black community. But in essence, mixed people, grown-ass men and women, are often reduced to the level of little children being scolded/chided/criticized/even verbally abused by certain people from both communities. I think some white and black people tend to lose propriety and overstep their boundaries because mixed-race people are the result of these two races coming together, so some may think they have some type of control over our racial identity and place in this country when it couldn't be the furthest thing from the truth. Hence, why so many will think they have the right to dictate to mixed people who they are, despite it being the height of disrespect. Mixed people are the only ones who control their collective identity and narrative and I think more of us should step up, take the reigns and take over this narrative. Make our voices on our experiences the predominant ones because I've seen too many people trying to silence, shame or degrade us or even worse, think they can become our mouthpieces while totally disrespecting us in the process (not talking about the video--I've seen many so called "mixed/interracial" advocates of OTHER races over the years figuratively step on mixed people's faces while claiming to support us). All of this is totally unacceptable. In any case, couples like Rebekah and her husband's, mixed people forming their own family units, it will be undeniable that the population of biracial people will only continue to increase and they will have that right to self-determination for not only themselves but their descendants.
