Listen to your body and rest. If you want to continue to be able to crochet for years to come you need to develop good habits now. Posture is important. Stretching before and after working is important. Take frequent breaks. You can find posture and hand stretching videos on KZbin. If it persists seek medical advice. Last but not least do not work through the pain. You don’t want this to be a repetitive stress injury. This advice from a knitter with a knitting business with 18 years experience. I’m also a Virgo who just turned 40.

I’d recommend writing patterns for yourself first, wait long enough to forget the project after writing it and come back. Read it and see if you can make that project again just from your pattern, if you can’t then see what details you need to add.

Hi Kelsie, from Germany. You said you have bad PAIN in your arms. Please let me tell you something... Well, I startet knitting in may this year, after 3 years pausing. And I knitted 3 days from dawn till knight....! 🙈😄 Suddenly, within 3 or 4 days I got such pain in my both thumbs😢. Then, the left one began to jump and then I couldn't bend or stretch it anymore. After that my both carpal tunnels at my wrists began to hurt and sleep all night and/ or day. I went to several doctors, they all said: YOU NEED SURGERY!!!! Both Thumbs, and both carpal tunnel! 😮😮😮 Okay, seems to be only a small surgery, but often the scar hurts for up to a whole year😢. So I went looking for HELP by my self! First you have to know: you are definitely overloading your tendons and ligaments, when you are doing this work "hardcore" 😊 like you and me. So REST is important. If it hurts already, then small pauses and stretching is not enough anymore. But are very important! Maybe set your clock every.... half an hour or so? Go cuddle your dog 😉 Wearing something around your wrist to keep warm and smooth and give it some rest from those small, rapid movements is also important. Maybe a light bandage? That also reminds you... Hey .. go slowly! 😉 I know you have those orders... But if you don't want to get it worse, so you can't crochet for a long time.... Please rest more, take more pauses, do stretching, maybe go to the doc to check if there is an inflammation going on. This was my problem. No I got some meds and an injektion, and after 2-3 weeks I can finally move my thumbs normal and my forearms don't hurt or tinkle anymore 😃. What I wanted to say is: please take care and do not underestimate those signs. I did! And it took me 4 months now, because I waited to long. And... I escaped narrowly one or more operations. 🤗 Take care Chrissie
