"If I hit the big time, nobody's taking my money away! - I'm voting Conservative!" There's a very much increased chance of you starving to death, the longer the Tories are in power, no matter how many jobs you work. This government oversaw the rise in "foodbanks" - hitherto unheard of in this country ... and now normalised and commonplace. A total shame has been turned into a virtue ... and the working class voters bought it hook, line and sinker. Because they're thick ... let's not be dishonest here - to vote Conservative when you KNOW it means you'll starve to death after working 4 jobs every day, is next-level dumbness and stupidity. The Tories are even saying "Get another job!" ... [when they can't be bothered to show up to parliament on £100 000 a year plus 'expenses'] But the working class will still vote for them. Yeah, but that is a US specialty. Once a US citizen you have to file taxes in USA independent of where you live. And if the country you live in has no tax treaty with the USA then you might very well be liable for double taxation. It gets worse. If you mother/father was a US citizen and you NEVER ever went to the USA, or had anything to do with them, but your parent declared your birth at the US embassy, then you still are liable for US taxes. And if the country you live in has an extradition treaty, then they can extradite you for tax evasion, financial crimes.

It seems so obvious when you say it out loud: If you live in the UK, you should pay UK tax on EVERYTHING you earn - no matter where, no matter how. No claiming expenses, losses: pay tax on your earnings, full monty, straight up. If your business can't function enough to pay tax on its earnings, go out of business - full stop. I know that will affect small businesses NOW - but future ones will change the way they operate to run their finances such that they put aside their earnings they need to to pay tax, and the rest they keep. But more importantly: the Tescos, Sunaks, Starbucks, Googles and so on will no longer be able to avoid tax. (And in 2012, it was found that doing this would increase the tax base NINE TIMES in the UK, and that if the expected 30% or so businesses closed or fled the country...the tax base would still be almost quarupled.)
@cliffhulcoopofficial80752 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately for you your argument is used in the US as to why Starbucks, Google etc. should pay so little tax outside the US because they claim they are a US company and think their taxes should go to the US instead. The public cannot have it both ways. Do you think that most of the tax money from Starbucks's income gained exclusively in the UK should go to the US taxman? That was what street protests against Starbucks were about.

I should say I was a taxman for 21 years, and can’t see how she can claim non-dom status when she is living here with her husband and her kids go to school here. That’s literally the definition of domicile status. Unless the chancellor of course has also claimed non-dom status and only gave it up when he got into politics as what must only be a hobby for him. It’s worth pointing out that tax paid abroad in almost all cases is covered by a double taxation agreement which means if you paid 15% tax on the income abroad then you don’t have to pay that 15% here again, only the difference that would be due here under our own tax laws
