What I always loved about this track, as a kid, was that it kinda sounded like an early 90s sitcom ending theme. I could picture like "freeze frames" of the episode as the credits rolled. There was a weird, humble warmth to 90s computer stuff. My family got our first PC in 1997 and I thought it was the weirdest and coolest thing just to poke around curiously on it listening to MIDIs. My Galaxy Note 9 sounds like the last one, and I love it. I've been using passport as an alarm ringtone for roughly 10 years now, ever since I was able to sideload passport.Midi into a cell phone. Every single one of them have sounded different.

I was expecting the Yamaha OPL-3 Wavetable or DS-XG to be the most pleasing of the selection, but the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz really is the best sounding to my ears, even if it's not entirely accurate to the intended sound since back then.

The sound bank in the VX11000 (runs Brew 3.1.5) has an identical one in the Samsung Intensity II SCH-U460, 501c and more others that run on Brew 3.1.5. The upgraded version of that synthesizer (Brew MP) is on other most newer phones like the 840G or 306G, etc.

They really should've kept these classic MIDIs around. Sure, there's things like onestop.mid but those...just aren't the same as this! If Microsoft includes MIDIs Windows never plays in Windows 10, they should've put this and canyon.mid in with them.

Well this actually from Windows 3.0 MME which appeared later in Windows 3.1. In Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 98 had Passport.mid in the Media folder if you had the Sample Sounds component installed under the Windows Setup in Add/Remove Programs under the Multimedia category along with Multimedia Sound Schmes, even though in Windows 2000 had it installed by default.

These aren't soundfonts, they are the wavetables stored on the cards.The aureal, gravis, and turtle beach cards use software wavetables, so you might be able to extract stuff from the drivers if you were so inclined.

OPL3-SA3 (not the same as the original OPL3) does have a wavetable mode in addition to traditional FM synthesis. These chips were commonly used in laptops and integrated into some onboard motherboard audio solutions.
