I had a couple people commenting about the camp fire 🔥 (singular). The camp fire you saw was early in the year before the Covid fire restrictions were implemented. The temperature is not 31F Degrees in July...

Thank you for the memory. I have been going to Kennedy Meadows for over 20 years. I used to go to trails end and relax in the Upper Kern. I ride bikes up there and stay off the grid in meadows further up the mountain. You are showing how crowded it has gotten. Social media has destroyed that area. Just 5 years ago you would only see a few vehicles camping on the big weekends. Now it is overrun by anyone with a 4 wheel vehicle.

Actually, it was so crowded that we had to ask some carcamperlanders if it was okay to double park on the road, just so we could walk down to the lake. We did the Duck lake hike, very beautiful, and I highly recommend it if you have never gone. We actually had a 2 inch lifted Subaru Ascent on BFG KO2’s go with us. It’s almost sad to see how busy it’s got over the years. I remember back in early 2000s it would be crazy to se even one other camper. I went back in mid Aug 2020 and it was so crowded we had to wait for someone to pack up to get a spot. The trail is kinda been trashed too a lot of people leaving trash and not properly cleaning camp spots after usage. I just hope it will calm down after COVID passes, but I doubt it now that so many people know about it.
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 4 жыл бұрын
Bradley Lutz I’ve been noticing that highway 395 as a whole has become unusually busy. I think it’s clear why, I’ll blame covid. I think once life returns to normal we will see a lot of people rushing back into dine in restaurants, bowling alleys, movie theatres, Disneyland, water parks, baseball/football stadiums, concerts, and what else did I miss? I think there will be an implosion of traffic to these areas. BUT... we shall see! Who knows how long this will all last.

@@JonDZ_Adventuring Covid has nothing to do with it. I spent three weeks in the Whites and Inyos back in 2018 deer hunting. What a disappointment. Every swinging dick with a 4x4 or off-road motorcycle was running up and down Silver and Wyman Canyons. They weren't hunters, either. No wonder nobody ever sees any deer up there.

Hi Jon, I have a Thermorest Neo-Air Dream, (which was discontinued a few years ago, for some stupid reason), but it features the same 3" Neo-Air (single) mattress, with a 1" Foam topper in a form fitted bag! I have used it when camping in my Passport, but I have to sleep cross-diagonal..

You have to sleep diagonal? do you use a head board? I have a video about my sleeping setup in the Passport. I have a 2 foot long head board that I place between the big gap between the front and rear seat. It's held up by a strap that goes around the front head rest. @JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 4 жыл бұрын
The Monache meadows is only opened from May to November (depending on snow), so any opened month should be good. It’s nice that this place sits at a high elevation, so the weather is typically pleasant. It can get super duper cold in the early months. When I was out here in May it got down under 30F degrees. The later in the season, the less water there will be. It seems to be more lush and green in the earlier months as well.

Scott Ridge I don’t have a transcooler in the Passport. The highest temps I have seen is 230F on the coyote flats trail. This trail overheated a Ridgeline 7 times (which I believe is triggered at 250F). As far as 18 inch wheels, I think it’ll depend on the style you’re looking for. Black Rhino and KMC are popular brand choices, but if you have lot’s of money, I’ve seen a guy mount Volks ($1K per wheel). I personally have the KMC XD 820 Grenades.

@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul! Congrats on the Passport! So, NO, I do not have the Honda OEM transmission cooler. The ZF9 seems to keep the Passport out of any dangerous temps. I've done two steep drives lately, the Coyote Flats/Funnel lake 4,200 to 10,700 feet. and Laurel lakes 7,300 to 10,300. Trans temp got to 230F with the A/C blasting. Now, I'd love to Keep my temps below 210F, so I plan on eventually getting a trans cooler, but not the one by Honda. Watch my Coyote flats video, the poor Honda Ridgeline with the Honda 6spd Auto comes with the so called "heavy duty trans cooler" from the factory. It didn't help. Honda Ridgeline owners have told me that the Honda transcooler is so small and insignificant. They say something like a Hayden 679 cooler is 3 times the size for only $60.

@pratcliffe1969 4 жыл бұрын
@@JonDZ_Adventuring Hey Jon.. Thanks for getting back to me..I did some research and fyi our zf9 won't take a traditional cooler with flexible hoses.. So whats your current favorite sleeping system now? I see you're not using your other one
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 4 жыл бұрын
Michael L good question! Well, the thermarest is hands down my favorite sleeping system. You get what you pay for, and it isn’t cheap! $334!!! I used a 20% REI discount to being the cost down to $260 and then knowing it’ll earn me $26 in dividends, the price was much easier to swallow. The thermarest neo air camper duo is 50 inches wide and won’t fit in many vehicles. The Honda midsized SUV’s are very wide for the segment, one of the widest in the class, so this mattress won’t work in many vehicles. With that said, the Honda Passport/Pilots dont have a tall cargo floor. I was able to free up 2 precious inches of headroom with this pad.

Is it possible to do a one day trip there and back from Santa Clarita, Ca?
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 4 жыл бұрын
It's possible, let me break it down for you travel time wise. So once you turn onto 9 mile road from the 395, it's about a 1.5 hour drive to the monache trailhead. If you were familiar with the trail and traffic isn't too bad, you can get down to the river campsites (and golden trout pond hiking trail) in 1.5 hours. Most first timers will want to stop and marvel at the beauty, so realistically, for someone's first time, you'll spend 3-4 hours before you decide to head back. You can look to spend 7-8 hours down there, so plan accordingly. Hope that helps :P

A Google User you can’t even hide your social security number nowadays, how in the world do you think any place is going to be a “hidden gem”? I’m this video I inform people that places like this get over crowded. Trying to keep a place a secret isn’t sustainable, but recommending to people that they diversify their camp locations is. Haha! Funny troll comment though 😘

Yep, born and raised in California though. I visited the Philippines 🇵🇭 when I was 2 years old, but don’t remember much and haven’t been back. I understand Tagalog pretty fluently, but can’t read it too well.

Mario... I'm kinda sad I don't have more footage of your Outlander GT. Remember how we found about the Riots when we got back to civilization an then camped at the Trona Pinnacles? That was a crazy time! Driving around Los Angeles by taking highway 395 worked out great! You coming out to Laurel Lakes?
