Every time I hear the line "if I could make it to the street" I physically breaks my heart because I know, the song ends soon. I hate that feeling. I wish this song never ended.

the line about the son taking their dog away... breaks my heart every time. "I used to be so young, how did I get so old?" - Dan Mangan, you're incredible. Your writing is incredible, and your passion is so beautiful.

I saw him in Hamburg Hasenschaukel, was free entry and the small place was full of people, which all sang along while robots. Was one of the most amazing concerts I'ver ever experienced.

It's a shame that people argue and troll over such a good video. If you like it, you like it. If you don't, you don't. No need to argue over it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I saw him last week in London, Shepherd's Bush Hall. He is truly a lovely guy and you can just breathe in every one of his emotions in this song, which happens to be about his grandfather growing old.

Dan actually DOES have a great singing voice; this particular performance was early in the morning and maybe not his best vocally. But I've never seen this song performed with more passion. This is my favourite by far!

This song always makes me tear up when he mentions how they've grown old and the son has taken the dog... It makes me want to hold someone.

to say he does not have a powerful voice is unfair as you are obviously mistaken, i believe "raspy" is what he is going for and totally adds to his music and gives him a bit of uniqueness dont you think? i think his originality slightly frightens you. check out some of his other music, you may possibly be blown away.

damn he looks slim here. this is my favourite song by him, soo much emotion and passion he puts into his art. and he's actually such a nice and funny guy! real down to earth as well, not one of those high ego musicians who people just idolize.

@Sunderlanding Why don't you tell us what the "original" music is?
@micahmaurio239714 жыл бұрын
@Sunderlanding: The definition of technique is really fairly subjective. Especially when you consider that what he's trying to do with his music has nothing to do with pushing vocal virtuosity to new boundaries. This is on a different plane. It's not about extended range, melismatic fireworks, and impressive runs... it's not about being a mechanically consistent prodigy of epic proportions... it's about just the opposite; being human; being flawed; being willing to sing from the heart.
@theauthenticnut2.014 жыл бұрын
@Sunderlanding No no, I meant the way he looks lol. I agree, Dallas is amazing.
@platypae33314 жыл бұрын
@Sunderlanding Who cares? How's your technique? I like it and so do others. Technique doesn't matter, the end result counts. He sounds good. He has flaws in his voice but that's part of what I like about it. It seems more real, not overproduced. I don't need a perfect singer because if I wanted that I would listen to music they've auto-tuned the shit out of. And he's not trying to be original, listen to some of his other music, once he actually says "Now, I don't need to reinvent the wheel".
@micahmaurio239714 жыл бұрын
@Sunderlanding: Wrong, my friend. You can't use a broad term to describe a specific thing. I'm a professional musician (classical, jazz, you name it), and I'm well aware of the technical demands of a number of instruments, including the voice. Dan has plenty of control, and does with his voice what he pleases to. He doesn't intend to sing perfectly in tune, nor does he want a perfect 10/10 split on his vibrato. He wants to express his emotions. If you research him, in general, you'll find
@micahmaurio239714 жыл бұрын
that he claims to be ordinary in nature, and he claims to wish only to express what ordinary people deal with on the daily. His technique is found within this, and that's what makes it good. I'm not saying he has the virtuosity of an opera singer or the tenacity of a belting pop star... I'm saying, technique is measurable on many planes, and virtuosity isn't the only one. Furthermore, there aren't many people with lyrics as thoughtful and emotions so palatable as his. He's far from generic.

Seriously though, who the fuck is Dan "Managan"?
@eskimopictures14 жыл бұрын
lets not get excited here bud, no need to be throwin' cuss words my way. I realize that your nature is to get a rise out of people and i think deep down your doing your best not to enjoy his music. seeing as you think there are far too many raspy folk singers out there maybe just send dan an email and ask for him to stop making music. i'm sure he'll understand seeing as you guys did share a stage. I'd be interested in this long list of other raspy folky singers that you got though.
