Hey guys... Firstly I absolutely loved the video. Secondly, visiting the Northern Lights in Tromsø is the topmost things in my bucket list. Would you please help me out and let me what would be the cost of the trip, and which tours groups give the best chasing experience and some other places to visit in Tromsø as well. And also how many days should I stay there!?

@sarafonte19665 жыл бұрын
Hi friends. We are going to Tromso this October. You know anything about the weather time on that season of the year? I'm afraid it will be raining there and we miss the city and the lights...
@PassportTwo5 жыл бұрын
sara fonte unfortunately we don’t know too much except that October is one of if not the wettest months in Tromsø supposedly. However, it is supposed to be one of the best months for the lights! My suggestion is just to make sure you get a tour guide that says they will try and drive to find the lights. There are some tours that will even day for you to bring your passport in case they Passover into Finland hunting the lights. That would increase your chances of seeing them if it is raining in Tromsø and not somewhere else where the lights are active.

Northern lights is free, you only have to go away from city lights to see "the every day light"...if it is strong you can see it even with other disturbing city lights.

Hey guys, great video !! I’m going to Tromso, in December, you guys think that’s a good month?
@PassportTwo5 жыл бұрын
Should be! You just have to go in the winter time for you to be able to see them. Just give yourself multiple nights where you can go out away from the city to see them. The winter is also known for being very cloudy and you have to have a clear night to be able to see the lights. If you give yourself multiple nights then you increase your chances of having a clear night! :)

kannywhat Just check the usual apps which give you a forecast. I had good experiences with aurora pro (on ios), as I used it in Iceland. I try also to go to tromsø this year and ´ll use apps again. the best time in general is october to april and december and january are usual the peak times.

when in Feb did you go? I just booked Feb 2020 :D I am so looking forward to it! What camera did you use?
@PassportTwo5 жыл бұрын
greentealover we were there in the first week of February! The video was on a GoPro Hero 7 Black and iPhone 8. Wouldn’t recommend these for video because they don’t have the low light abilities to do very well for video or photos. Some of the photos taken were by our tour guide and I’m not sure what camera they had but we were using a Canon EOS 350D if I remember correctly...it did OK but would highly recommend a mirror less camera! We are using a Sony A6500 now and I wish we had it then. A lens that has a really low f stop would be ideal!

Hi, can we actually see the light in naked eyes? I visited Iceland mid of April this year and got some great shots in camera, however, I could actually see them myself expect just the brighter sky?
@PassportTwo5 жыл бұрын
Inbarasan Muniraj it totally depends on the activity. You definitely can see them with the naked eye and they can be super bright! We were very surprised how bright they could get that night. At some points, there was so much activity it was like there were huge colored lights above us and everything around us was lit up from the northern lights. I think April is a little late in the winter for them to be very bright and active. The best time to see them is in the middle of the winter.

Incredible, incredible northern lights pictures! You were very fortunate to have such clear skies and the amount of activity! I saw a faint borealis in Anchorage a few years ago and was in awe, because it's visually so "other worldly". I can't imagine what you were experiencing! Definitely makes me think of Psalm 8 when the psalmist talks about looking into the night sky and seeing the work of God's finger!

In real does it look more like in the video? Is it anywhere close to the pictures? Because the contrast between the 2 are so huge. Just trying to find the closest and most accurate depiction of the lights to what I would acutally see in real
@PassportTwo5 жыл бұрын
Mister K short answer: that particular night, it looked more like the pictures than the videos. Long answer: We filmed the video with a Go Pro and those cameras are notoriously bad at picking up anything in low light settings. Therefore, things you can clearly see with he naked eye at night, will not be picked up on that camera. On the other hand, a lot of people who take photographs will usually do a long exposure shot meaning the camera will take in light for a longer period of time making it seem brighter than it actually is. The northern lights are not consistent in their illumination because it is completely up to the sun’s solar activity. On this particular night, I can promise you it looked like the photographs and it lit the sky up to an unbelievable level we were just capturing video on a bad camera for this type of content. A better low light camera would have picked up on the lights much better and you would have seen that. However, if the lights aren’t super active on the night you go out and look, it may very well look like what it did in the video...it completely depends on the activity and what night one goes to see them.

I would say that if you look at some pictures you see other really overexposed lightsources from a weak Northern light that needed longer shutter time. Sometimes you see photos from a strong Northern light where other human made background lights looks more normal the Northern light was stronger. Anyway sometimes it can even impress me!.....And I have seen several thousands of Northern lights as a swede living in the Northern part.
