Allison Barnes Taylor: - Thanks for posting this information. I was just about to try looking up the surname "maracas" because that is what the CC letters printed out. I figured "Mickey" was a nickname and those are never (usually) in a database. Your grandmother had a rare gift: She was pretty, and smart, and seemed to be pleasant. I used to watch daytime Password with mom sometimes during summer vacation. I was about in 1st Grade when this episode aired.

2:00 E. G Marshall mentions his head writer, Reginald Rose, for his TV series "The Defenders." Rose is famous for his epic 1954 live television drama, "Twelve Angry Men" that was later reproduced by Rose in Hollywood in 1957 and starred Henry Fonda and one of the greatest supporting casts any film has seen.

Carol Haney was an awesome underrated actress and dancer. She was married to Larry Blyden. Sad she died in 1964. EG Marshall was an awesome actor. I loved The Defenders. Robert Reed got his start on that show.

Carol Haney was Gene Kelly's dance captain. He tried to get her into movies. She appeared in "Kiss Me Kate." When the Broadway musical "Pajama Game" came along she was given two number which she repeated in the movie version. She was on the Ed Sullivan show.

Actress Shirley MacLaine was discovered by Hollywood producer Hal Wallis while pulling understudy duty in a Broadway play when Carol had hurt her ankle. He had come to see Carol. An unlucky break.
@gusloader123

This was a good episode. The lady contestant: Mary Alice (Mickey) Marakas was pretty, smart and pleasant. Her husband was a lucky man. Hard to believe / understand why nobody gave the clue "Bounty" or "Wanted" for the password "Reward". Steve McQueen's TV program "Wanted Dead or Alive" was about a travelling Bounty Hunter. This episode was filmed in 1962 and the McQueen program was on a couple years before, so somebody had to have seen it (maybe). Then the host (who supposedly had a degree in English) says they should have tried "Ransom" ?!? Why Allen? A "Ransom" is what you pay a kidnapper.

Shirley MacLaine owes her movie career to Carol Haney. Shirley was Carol's understudy in "The Pajama Game" on Broadway, and when Carol hurt her foot and couldn't perform, Shirley took over. In the audience was Hal Wallis, who offered Shirley a movie contract.

And Carol became an alcoholic, became diabetic, was divorced twice and died before she was 40. One must wonder if such disappointment led to the downward spiral.

Carol was one of the finest dancers around but not MGM pretty. Gene Kelly had her choreograph routines for Cyd Charisse, Leslie Caron and others. This is late in her life. She looks a bit beefy.

I read that also (re: her looks), but find it somewhat head-scratching all these years later. I understand she was the original choice for the vamp in the 'Broadway' ballet of 'Singin' In the Rain,' before the front office declared her not photogenic enough. (Can you imagine her version of Louise Brooks in that green dress?) Anyway, the way she was made up in KMK for the small bit in "From This Moment On," she looked like quite the dish.

Allen was absolutely right about Jack Clark, he DID do an excellent job. In fact, I liked him better than Allen, only because Allen could be a bit rude at times. The only clue I could think of for doodle was yankee. As for dilemma, I thought of conundrum. How about property for private?

I don't think that's fair that they give the word to the contestant when the celebrity goofs and says the word because if that's the cause, why don't they deliberately ALWAYS say the word they shouldn't
