The contestants were vetted before the show. If the woman was a student or had a job, she was asked about that. If she had neither but had children she was asked what occupied her time or if she was married. If none of the above, she was asked what her husband does.

If this exact game was played today, they would play the first game, then have five minutes of commercials. Then they would play the lighting round, then have five minutes of commercials. Then the same routine for the second half of the game.

And the balding school teacher who lived in Anaheim, but taught school in Compton. Betcha a yankee dollar he switched School districts by 1970. I knew ( worked with) the last white student at Compton High School. { Not fun being the only "one" at a place.) His parents finally got some $ and they moved to Anaheim for his Senior year of High School.

Wow! I've seen "Submarine" as a password several times on the show but NEVER has somebody given that great a clue (Nautilus) and indeed, even as a 1st clue it worked :-)

Once someone gave “submersible” as a first clue which is an exact synonym for submarine. But apparently the partner didn’t know the word and didn’t get it.

Hmmm... I actually think there is a single clue that could work for "Daze," due to the fact that per the rules of password you're only going for pronunciation. Leaning my head to one side a little I would say the word "Niiights?..." And then tilting my head in the opposite direction slightly lead the contestant on to answer with its opposite (hopefully "Days" and not "armor" :-)

The team who gets the second clue has a way bigger advantage to get the password. They should've made it a rule that whichever team got the last password had to go first for the next password.

In later versions of password, the person giving the clue first had the option of passing the word to the other team.

That was practically rigged. They gave Richard the first question over & over again. The first question is always the hardest to get and whoever gets the second question has two clues to put together making it MUCH easier to get the word. If they would have switched it around and given Crain the first question every time it would have been a completely different outcome. Boone was getting disgusted and it's obvious to see why. They gave her the advantage throughout the whole show.

Jeanne Crain did well this episode, for the most part. Her brain froze a couple of times in the lighting rounds. She won (for her partners) because Richard Boone was not good at all. Staring at the audience like a "deer-in-the-headlights" is not conducive to thinking about words. BTW - For the people in this comments section who find it weird that a woman was married in 1963,,,, Jeanne Crain was not only married but had 7 (seven) children.

It was the special night edition. On the daytime show did switch partners. {Agree that whoever got stuck with Richard Boone was not going to win any $$. He was much better at Paladin ("Have Gun, Will Travel") than actual word exchange. Some folks can recite the words of a play or script but were crummy at Password.
