MOOREHEAD'S DEATH FROM RADIOACTIVE FALLOUT?!? - Moorehead died of uterine cancer on April 30, 1974 (was her cancer and death from the radioactive fallout?) in Rochester, Minnesota, aged 73. Her sole immediate survivor was her mother Mary, who died in 1990, aged 106. Moorehead may have developed cancer from radioactive fallout from atmospheric atomic bomb tests while making The Conqueror with John Wayne in St. George, Utah. Several production members, as well as Wayne himself, Susan Hayward, Pedro Armendáriz (who died by suicide) and its director Dick Powell, later succumbed to cancer and cancer-related illnesses. The cast and crew totaled 220 people. By the end of 1980, as ascertained by People, 91 of them had developed some form of cancer, and 46 had died of the disease.

Yes I’m so glad that Elizabeth Montgomery was able to persuade her to take the role. They wisely used her as much as possible. The show has aged well. I still love watching it. The only thing that hasn’t held up terribly well is the unchanging conflict between Darren and Endora. It would be interesting if they did a count of the number of times Darren started a fight versus Endora. I’d say it was probably about 80 Darren to 20 Endora, if not more. The result for me over time was to see Darren as the real bad guy. Now what Endora did to Darren was much worse, but after greeting her so snidely as he did over and over again I would have done the same. Only I would have really let him have it! Maybe sent him to whatever planet the Robinson family were on at that point, so he could get in snotty fights with Dr Smith. She was much more forbearing than I would have been if I had possessed her powers. Now I liked Dick York and to a lesser extent Dick Sargent, but the writers should really have let up on that scenario a little. They way over did it. Things change and people change. If I had been Sam I would have had a POW WOW with Darren and negotiated a truce. Stop goading Endora and I will make her drop the joke about getting your name wrong. And I know she could have done it. Of course then the writers would have had to put in some more effort to introduce new ways for them to interact that would have made their relationship seem more realistic. But that’s what they presumably got paid big bucks for.
