This was a great movie. It was raw and realistic. It teaches everyone that real life isnt a love story. That some people can have a beautiful story but not end up together. Its the perfect anti-romantic story

Its not realistic for a man to let his woman see another guy alone. Especially if they had a past. 😂 You can rationalize that situation but its like a mans instinct not to let her.

@@CyclingMartialartswithMusican emotionally mature and empathetic person wouldn’t see some childhood friend visiting their wife as some ‘competitor’ or rival and become possessive of his wife. But yeah perhaps the standard of men in relationships isn’t that high, but anyone with some semblance of trust in their relationship wouldn’t feel threatened by this, or at least wouldn’t refuse his wife seeing Hae-Sun. Of course its natural for Arthur to feel a bit insecure, but its not unrealistic for him to be an understanding person

One thing i did not expect from this movie would be how funny it is. Like yeah it wasnt knee-slappingly funny, but me and the two theaters I went to (yes I had to watch it twice and maybe more in the future) were laughing at the jealousy we knew all too well. It was this human type of humor, something so identifiable and personally connective.

Hae Sung is not Nora’s In-Yun. Arthur is. Their lives came together so unexpectedly aligned. Their marriage, their relationship was practical and needed, not in any way forced and if anything was very helpful. I’d hate if Nora ended up with Hae Sung. It was clear that he didn’t want to pursue Nora, and that she had bigger dreams than him. Nora and Hae Sung “knew” each other. But Arthur knows Nora. He might have witnessed her growth, her struggles and was there for her all along. While Hae Sung didn’t have that. All he has was the Nora he knew and held onto it, without making the effort of truly knowing what she has become. So that’s that. Arthur is Nora’s 8000 layers of In-Yun. He was there with her in the right place at the right time and for the right reason.

@@IloveJungkook-tx6gmguess its probably because of all the accumulated feelings she has for Hae Sung over the years, and finally setting herself free from it. those feelings of course don’t diminish the fact that she loves Arthur and chooses him. at least that’s how I want to interpret that cry at the end.

Hae Sung war in love with an illusion. She only existed in his mind. That little girl he knew was not Nora. Not anymore. If they got together all they would get would be misary and disappointment. Nora realised after the Skype calls that it can't go on this way. She chose to leave the past and move forward. After Hae Sung came to visit she was upfront with Arthur from the get go. After she met him, she even told her husband: He is here for me. Arthur said i won't stop you to see him. You have such a great story, who am i to ruin this story? He even told her... if i wasn't in that garden, would you now be married to somebody else. Very realistic and mature of Arthur. Because he doesn't take anything for granted. He knows if you love someone you have to set them free and if they come back they are yours forever. Nina never cried in America. Why? Because nobody cared when she cried. Now she cries and Arthur cares. What if they have a rough patch and she goes to Hae Sung? She didn't go to him when she was 12, nor when she was in her early 20s, nor did she go to him 10 years later. She can morn the little girl she left behind, Hae Sung can also let go of his illusion and Arthur can perhaps finally understand her dreams.

@@IloveJungkook-tx6gmI’d also want to add the cultural part of it too. As a Korean American, he’s also the gateway to tapping into her “Korean-Korean” side of her. And with how she says she feels “more Korean” with him, letting go of him is also kinda accepting that distance she feels from her Korean-Korean identity. If that makes sense?

I thought it was a very well-made movie and I appreciated that so much emotion could be conveyed with minimal sets and effects and even minimal dialogue in this decade of spectacle. But the movie really made Arthur look terrible, like beyond pathetic. I suppose that might be realistic if she's literally his one and only, only girlfriend he ever had, only love he ever experienced, then maybe he would handle this awkward situation with such an insecure and juvenile lack of self control.
