A quick lesson detailing how to form and use the PAST PERFECT also know as the PLUPERFECT aslo know as the PLUSCUAMPERFECTO in Spanish. This involves a form of HABER and a PAST PARTICIPLE.
I spelled pluscuamperfecto wrong in the video...I forgot to at the "a" in the middle of the word.

@David / Glad to hear that you are using the videos. Both "antes de" and "antes de que" exist in Spanish. I used "antes de" in this example in order to avoid the use of an additional tense (past subjunctive) so as not to confuse anyone. The way I used it does indicate that the verb is being used as a noun in this instance. In spoken Spanish both are used somewhat interchangeably, but from a technical standpoint I would agree with you. Nice catch. Keep speaking Spanish.

KCORPORA1 - The sentence makes so much more sense now with "cocinado". I would use "antes de que" in your example now that we have all the information. Make sure you continue on with Spanish as long as possible and study abroad when you have the chance. Spending a semester or a year in a Spanish speaking country is an incredible way to take your Spanish to the next level. ¡Suerte!

Generally when I am speaking, I used the full adverbial clause (antes de que) and then follow it with subjunctive (present or past depending on the statement). I used antes de plus infinitive in the example because I did not want to introduce a new tense in this video. Antes de que uses a conjugated verb so the subject is very clear. Antes de used the infinitive so the subjuct is ambigious. Long story short..I normally use antes de que...I wanted to avoid subj in the vid so I dropped the que

Is the past perfect always the first conjugated verb? Is it sometimes the second?

When you use "antes de" it will ALWAYS be followed by an infinitive. For example: antes de comer...before eating. "Antes de que" is always followed with subjunctive (present or past depending on your sentence). Your first sentence has "antes de vino" which would need to change to "antes de venir" Your second sentence looks alright. That being said, I am not sure the whole sentence makes sense..."I had eaten something for my girlfriend before she came over. Did you mean "cooked"?

Another great lesson from the Maestro ! OK this lesson begs the question, "Why shouldn't The Past Perfect be mentioned as sort of a sister tense of the The Present Perfect ?" They both represent actions that took place in the past and differ primarily with different uses of have vs had.
@MaestroKaplan
@MaestroKaplan 2 жыл бұрын
The present perfect is something that started in the past and still has the ability to be accomplished in the present moment. The past perfect has a point of reference in the past which is the last moment the action could have been accomplished. For example (past perfect), Before arriving to class yesterday (point of reference in the past), I had already studied for two hours. The past perfect cannot be continued to the present. Another example (with the present perfect), I haven't studied yet today...the implication is that there is still time today in the present moment. I hope that provide a little clarity.

It sounds like your def of a Pluperfect is one event happened and was completed and then a second event happened and was completed. Ex: I broke the computer and then my father came into the room. Is the above correct?

Lol my mistake I will change the sentence..Yo habia comido antes de que viniera a mi novia y Yo habia comido antes de venir a mi novia..Now by your definition y the defintion that David questioned about your sentence what is the correct y true version? he used the imperfecto in the subjunctive as in my 1st sentence after (antes de que) Why did you not use (de que) y the (imperfecto in the subjunctive). R u saying it is easier to use antes de to avoid using the (imperfecto in the subjunctive?)
