Using YOUGLISH in your content is a smart move. It's a very valuable tool now we can see authentic speech samples Thank you!

It makes me a little nervous though. I got permission from youglish, but they're using clips from sources I don't have explicit permission from. I figure if I get a copyright claim, I can cut out the examples in the KZbin editor, which is the only reason I chose to risk it.

I'm curious to see what your retention numbers will be on the examples from Youglish--I find that when I give more than 2-3 examples from other native speakers, the retention starts to fall. When doing exercises (e.g., 03:50) I've also been experimenting with just showing the question for a second without dialogue/reading the question and different options out loud Then, I just show the answer after 1-2 seconds (speeds up the video and seems to help with retention too, but maybe your audience responds better) good work on a topic many learners miss (especially find it among my Mandarin-speaking students)

I have been thinking about that and I think found something related to my native language. So if I were to put stress on any of my word I can either say the word lauder or place it right before the verb of my sentence which is not possible in English language. I figured the reason we do that is we sometimes wanna convey a message effectively without making it obvious so we can convey it even more effective if that makes any sensehahha. If the listener doesnt notice that im emphasizing a word but feel the word is emphasized speakers message would be more effective since the listener literally has nothing to do but accepting the word is emphasized. If you emphasize your word by making it lauder the listener might and I think usually tent to deny it`s as effective as you want it to be. So in English I think the reasoning behind saying `that isn`t true` over `that`s not true` or `that is not true` you wanna make the listener feel that you are emphasizing that`s BEING not true by not shortening the verb to be without changing your tone so it can be more effective. For the second sentence i feel like you are emphasizing that`s being NOT true. Wow I give up, I didnt think that I was gonna struggle that much explaining that in English I hope you could understand what I mean anywayhahha

Provided I understood that correctly (overall pretty good job 👍), my answer would be: kinda. Lol. Contracting to be vs not can subtly emphasize one or the other, but they're interchangeable and it doesn't really matter.

The contractions aren't and weren't are the most difficult of all to me! I always get confused when natives are speaking them quickly! I'm like, did they say are or aren't? Etc.
