@JessisKnoll Creating something on a canvas is actually more satisfying because most people don't acknowledge digital art as being tough. Most of the time they'll see it as autogenerated. You also learn faster and better traditionally in my opinion. I started with digital art.. and while I did get a little better.. I never got a full grasp on color because I never had to mix it. I also didn't have complete control of my brushstrokes.

Hi Sthom4bad, The tool you are referring to is called a Colour Shaper. I use two sizes, No 2 flat chisel firm and No 6 flat chisel firm. They come in soft and firm grades but the soft ones wear out quickly on the sandpaper. You can find them for sale on our website. follow the links to 'shop', 'art materials' and the colour shapers are on page 2 Best wishes Jenny

Hello Zye, Yes I paint on a special sandpaper which is made for pastel artists, it is called Fisher 400 Art paper. You can paint onto other papers but they need to have plenty of 'tooth' to hold the pastel. There lots on the market including Canson Mi Tiente, Ingres and Tiziano. Have a look at my blog on our website which gives more detail about painting pastels jennykeal.co.uk

this is beautiful... i would like to start using pastel as a medium.. but, if i'm not mistaken, i thought i heard you saying sand paper? are you using sand papers instead of normal papers? and if you do, is it necessary to use a sand paper or any paper will do?

I'm fascinated by the beautiful drawing and i learned a lot by watching your video - you mentioned you use sandpaper to draw on - not regular pastel paper ? does sandpaper helps to mix the colors easier ? thank you so much for your wonderful work Silvia

Thank you for sharing that. It was an excellent pastel drawing. Exemplifies how much more beautiful art can be when its realistic, but not an exact copy of what we observe. Btw what kind of journal do you use for watercolor? You mentioned that you use one in the beginning of the video. Thanks again!

What brand of pastels do you use? These seem to go on very smooth and almost "thick" if that's at all possible.

May I ask, what's that chisel shaped tool you refer to...is it a rubber instrument that just moves previously applied colour around on the paper? What's the technical name for it?
