Wonderful simplicity. I've seen too many still-life artists drag everything from Grandma's kitchen hutch into the picture without regard for composition or atmosphere. Christine keeps it delightfully simple with wonderful colors, and to do it with pastels is just amazing. What a pleasure to see this episode.

I use Canson Mi-Teintes paper. Black is beautiful as I work from dark to light, but it isn't the only colour paper I use.

Absolutely a full on display of magic with pastels ! I would so love to know what paper are you painting on ? I love to blend as well but on what paper ? I listened early on to artists raving about UART sanded paper. Now I have it ($$$) and don't like it because can't blend it. So desperate to find out what a great artist like you are....what brand of paper...please, tell ! Thank you so much !

Hi Cynthia, I use Canson MI_TEINTES pastel paper, the smooth side.

great stuff - good to see somebody else who is none too happy about the "rules" around not blending pastels with fingers - as a matter of interest, what brand of black pastel paper are you using that still holds pastel and allows you to still have your fingertips?

Hi Kathy, I use Canson mi-teintes pastel paper.

Wow, your work is amazing, Christine. I just happened upon this tutorial and I'm SO glad I found you and that you are filling in for the regular guy. I can't imagine anybody cringing at any of your techniques, either, because your work is truly spectacular. Just wondering: How do you not get pastel dust falling down onto the paper when doing your work? Especially when you put on the bright colors of the flower petals? Thank you SO much for this video. I am a beginner in pastels and I KNOW I do not have the patience to do still life work, but your still life paintings are beautiful. Truly beautiful. How can I purchase one? (Wish I could afford several.) Thank you. Renee K
@christinebroersen59924 жыл бұрын
Hi Renee, thank you for your kind words. There is always going to be a bit of pastel dust falling onto the paper, I either give the paper a gentle tap, brush very lightly with a tissue or cloth or use my knead-able eraser. It was lovely catching up with you via email, happy pasteling, Cheers .

If you work with pastel, charcoal or any 'grainy' medium you should always tilt the canvas forward if you're applying a lot of material. Then you avoid getting all those flakes on your painting and you don't have to turn it upside down.
