All pastels have chalk in them FYI. Nupastels are very hard pastels with a lot of binder in them. Sennlier and rembrandt or schminkes are soft pastels. You can also use pan pastels which are soft and contain less binder. Typically pastels use pigments, chalk, gum tragacanth or gum arabic & water. The softer a pastel is the more pigmented it is. The chslk helps to blend the pigments.

Thanks so much for this very informative info. For shrink plastic and I have found that pan pastels have too much oil in them to work well on shrink plastic but would love to hear from others.

you may be over heating . Keep your heat on the preminter of the bead, not the center fo the bead, as the bead shrinks it will want to pull to towards the heat . Try simply shapes at first not long petaled beads .S

I do not seal as the shrinking process usually seals in the pastels But if you want ot seal do so before shrinking and use a workable fixative.
