My mother always made that when I was a kid and was sick. Served it like you had it. Back then the doctors would tell you to eat "bland" stuff like rice, but we got Pastina. My mother also used to put it in chicken broth with carrots for a soup too.

Her mother made it for her when she wasn't feeling well. Just plain w butter. I do find it once in awhile (purchase 2 boxes)! She's in her mid 70s...tickled pink when I bring it to her house! Thank you...it will always be fond memories!

OMG - my mother would throw her slipper up the stairs as I ran - & it would always hit me in the back of my head ! She also would hit me with the wooden spoon saying “ go ahead - put your hands there when I tried to block her - lol. Pastina was always the staple growing up. As a baby my nana would mix a soft boil egg in it. 🇭🇺

Pastina was a staple in our house back in the day. A little butter and cheese added to it. Sometimes my mom would make it with eggs. As far as whacking me it was usually with parts of the vacuum but I got the wooden spoon as well.

Vic, your mom & my mom must have know each other. When ever I say Pastina here people are like what? We'd have it like Farina, a breakfast cereal, put Butter & a little sugar, that's how I liked it. 👍🍚 The wooden spoon and the straw broom were my moms weapons, but my mom was an Angel as I'm sure yours was, she never got mad enough to use them except the broom a couple of times, if she grabbed that broom you knew you upset her. What's next? Egg in a blanket?, or Syrup, sugar heated up with peanuts for homemade peanut brittle? 😄

Never in 73 years have I every had pastina. Never saw it on a menu…no one made it for me…so I skipped over it thinking it must be nothing. Mostly I just looked for lasagna on a menu when I was hungry (as a young adult I felt hungry a LOT). Yes, I would make spaghetti 🍝 at home. Why? Whoever I ate out with kept repeating to NEVER or it in a restaurant, always make it at home, so I learned that one thing. Then I got a bread machine about 10-15 years later so I’d get the “good stuff”. The kitchen work never “got me” , the eating 🍽 did. I moved to SW Florida (home of franchised food 🥘 everywhere…and I was sunk. Decided to date Italian men, right? If I was exposed, maybe I’d fall in love with one. Living on the west coast for many years (California) ALL my male friends knew how to cook. But oh…not where I live in SW Florida. Ok, okay, I only found two before I gave up. Both Alpha males, me owning several businesses wasn’t able to adjust to being told how to be, live, feel, etc. It was just scary (for me). Then I met a man (who has never cooked either only also doesn’t believe in going out …because of the money 💰) so I’m now a late bloomer Italian wanna be.. I have learned to make killer lasagna over many tries during the pandemic. It’s heaven on earth, really. Takes forever , this kitchen quality food. And it took many many tries as well to make it “just so”. Living in California I got spoiled with the best food (honest opinion), lots of true family owned restaurants. All I kept in the frig was leftovers & condiments. A bottle of champagne 🍾 in the frig, a bottle of vodka in the freezer. When I moved the oven had never been used. Before I die I want to GO to Italy..GO to Sicily… SEE the masters, the art, sculptures, architecture, richness these people collectively made & are making. Something about Italy…north AND south…made a class of people who seem to endure no matter what, choose quality over quantity, and oh…I’d love to taste the desserts 🍮. I’ve always been too full to order desserts by the time I’m done with a great Italian meal. But they look great (maybe for breakfast?). Thanks for this video & I’m like Lucy, that water spickett is a good investment for us small people especially.
