New song out from Elevation Rhythm: "This is the Gospel". It bops. But does it live up to its name? Does it present the gospel? Does it connect to scripture? Let's break it down.

This is my churches current anthem. The youth ministry with the high schoolers and middle schoolers go wild for it and it's super nice to be able to see kids having fun in worship while also loving on Jesus.

I hear that. I'm still not really a fan of the song. I think there are some much clearer gospel presentations that I'd love for kids to get hype to and be memorizing/singing all week.

@@sowhat1191 It does speak it. Where some songs that preach the Gospel make it front and center, this has one stanza that lays it out, and all the repeating parts are more vague. Like I said, it's not a bad song, or unbiblical... but for a song called "This is the Gospel" I would expect the main focus to be the Gospel. That's all.

I’m a very proud member of Elevation Church and have been for almost 4 years and I’m sorry, I DO NOT agree with your conclusions on this song. I get what your saying but you need to remember that for one, Elevation Rhythm is reaching out to the YOUNGER GENERATION, in order to do that then simply starting with informing these kids that there is a God that loves them is PLENTY to get their attention. Don’t forget, most children don’t even know what it means to be loved in a healthy way and to not be condemned because of their flaws or mistakes. The beat of this song, once again, is going to get the attention of a younger generation. The old school church style teaching and worship music WILL NOT grab the attention of a pre teen or a teenager. If the song can initially grab their attention then it leaves them wanting to learn about this God that loves them and doesn’t see their flaws or mistakes. Them wanting more is critical, it is then that they can go deeper into teaching them about the Gospel and what it means to follow Jesus. Btw, as a member of Elevation I can tell you that every single time our praise and worship team sings this song on Sunday morning the ENTIRE CHURCH, ALL ages, are dancing and singing and praising God to this song. Yes, WE ALL SING ALONG! It’s a great way to get everyone fired and ready to hear the word of God at 9:30 am on a Sunday morning. I agree, not everyone has the same style or music preference and that’s fine but as for everyone at Elevation Church, we LOVE IT!!!!

I don't think I said it's not a good song, or wouldn't reach kids. But for a song called "THIS IS THE GOSPEL" I would expect a clear depiction of the gospel. That's all. If it's a song to introduce people to God's love, it could be called "God Really Loves Us" (that's taken, but you get my point). And, sure, it works for a big church. I'm just saying, it's not gonna fly in a congregation of 50 people with an acoustic guitar or keys. Doesn't make it bad, but it does narrow the usability for the CHURCH beyond Elevation. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's a true thing.

I mean, he continues for two more verses about how Jesus showed himself to the disciples, and then even Paul himself. But yes. That is the gospel as Paul lays it out in 1 Corinthians.

Thank God the gospel is multicultural and not solely for Americans! The Lord told Peter: 'feed my sheep' ALSO 'feed my lambs'. This song is a beautiful snippet to whet someone's appetite to be curious and have a "what must I do to be saved" moment. It's presented as JOYOUS, very singable--lots of "ooohh". The demographic presented within the choir ( HUGE CHOIR) would have no issue with the syncopation in the song, simple as breathing. A wonderful ice-breaker to lead to a full presentation of the gospel.🎉

Possibly... I mean, I'm not trying to say that every song should be written for rhythmically challenged white people, but it sounds more like a pop hit than a church song. And again, the song isn't bad, but if you call it "THIS IS THE GOSPEL" it shouldn't be just a hype song that could lead to a gospel presentation, but it should include the gospel in it. That's all I'm saying.
@nunya5196

@@itsbrianlucas it technically does present the gospel, just not in entirety. I see your point, however, feeding sheep is different than feeding lambs--especially lambs in a "gratification NOW" era. It gives the pop music 'milk' needed to grab a lamb's attention and hold it long enough to present an easily digested nugget of the gospel.

You believe turning from sin/ not sinning anymore is required to get to heaven?
@itsbrianlucas
@itsbrianlucas Ай бұрын
Turning from sin (repentance) is part of the call to follow Jesus. The Bible (and human experience) is enough to make it clear that perfection and sinlessness is not possible this side of eternity.

@@itsbrianlucas Thanks for the response. The biblical definition of repentance is a change of mind not " turn from sin", and more specifically in context of salvation, repentance is going from unbelief to belief in the finished work of Jesus Christ. I always like to point out Acts 10:43-44 . These people heard the gospel, and while Peter was still speaking the Holy Ghost fell upon them as they were listening and believed the truth spoken( i.e they were born again when they changed their mind from unbelief to belief on Jesus Christ)..In this situation in Acts, there was no " turning from sin" to receive the Holy Spirit, no outward works performed or sacraments, simply hearing and believing... I'm pointing this important definition out to you because God Himself repented many times in scripture, and we both would agree He wasn't " turning from sin". If your honest, then you will admit your in the state I was in years ago...striving to please God in all you do( which is good) but failing miserably in many areas, not knowing forsure if you are truly doing enough, given the fact that we sin willfully and unwillfully every day...When you finally understand that Christ paid it ALL and you can never lose your salvation because it's not of works in the first place, then you will have lasting peace, peace not based on your performance...Then you can serve Him and do good works simply out of honor and appreciation for His finished work... I did a video on my channel called " osas = living like the devil?" and another one called " dear fruit inspector".... maybe give them a listen some time . Grace and peace to you and yours.

@@sealedsecure3754 I would not say I 100% agree with how you presented that. But also there’s a part right in the middle there where you said “if you were honest, you would admit that this is where you are…” You don’t know what I believe and I don’t see how it makes any sense to make a claim about, what I believe or where I’m at with my relationship with God or my understanding of salvation or my status in that.

@@itsbrianlucas I can only go off of what you stated when you mentioned turning from sin being "repentance", and it's all to familiar personally and unfortunately a view many hold to.Do you believe turning from sin is repentance and a requirement specifically concerning salvation?
@itsbrianlucas
@itsbrianlucas Ай бұрын
@@sealedsecure3754 dude you’re asking trap questions with bad intent. Stop trying to manufacture some sort of gotcha moment with the way that you’re asking it. To say that repentance does not involve turning from sin in the biblical sense is just inaccurate. Because repentance does mean to change one’s mind or direction or actions. So it would be completely incorrect to claim that that has nothing to do with turning from sin. It would also be incorrect to say that repentance is when we turn to God and believe in him for salvation. You did not make a clarifying statement saying “I believe repentance is more than just this…. And wouldn’t you agree with that?” You created a bad faith argument, and then made a judgment against me where you literally insinuated that I may not even be saved because of the way I responded to your question. So you are not trying to go extra burdens that are biblical separate people from salvation if they don’t agree with you on a very narrow theological point.
