One key is to understand ancient writings and biographies which the gospels try to be. Unfortunately the gospels don’t claim historical ineffably as many believe. Errors are accountable for because of mostly scribe in transmission and sources and traditions of the events of the life of Christ which are all variable based on the source. So, we cannot argue against the existence of Jesus based upon errors or contradictions in the gospels only. For example, the only evidence of the gospels in ancient Christian scholarship was discovered and paleographically dated to CE 220- papyrus 45(part of the gospels). To cut right to the chase even the harshest critics of the biblical/gospel texts though argue against biblical errors and contradictions still believe that no major Christian doctrine of faith can be deposed or discredited even with such contradictions and discrepancies in the Bible/gospels.
