I can relate to Pat's way of quitting. It happened to me. I was WAY into the abuse of anything I could get my hands on from the ages of 17 to 20. Only the fact that I was dirt poor, living on the street and couldn't afford more, kept me alive. There was no point where I hit rock bottom, I lived at rock bottom for years. Something inside me though knew I was killing myself and I knew I had to change. I asked for help and a social worker in one sitting sized up one of my primary problems being I had no job, and therefor no way to raise myself up. She asked if I had any job skills. Oddly, before I got into the drugs, I had spent a year and a half in a paramedics program. The local law had recently changed requiring ambulances to be crewed by trained personnel, and there were few with the training I had. The social worker had me pick up the phone book, look up a number and get a job interview. I got one for the very next day. Knowing I had that interview, I found the wherewithal to not do anything that night, and clean myself up with the help of some people who cared. At the interview I was an instant hire, as the training I had far exceeded the legally required. They had me start the next day. At that instant, the moment I was hired as a paramedic, my drug abuse vanished. It wasn't a question of 'quitting' or 'trying' or anything like that. I was simply in a new place. I don't do drugs. People's lives would be in my hands. Sobriety was not a question. I've been clean now for nearly 40 years. Rose's career is in Pat's hands, Rose's future, her life in a real sense. Once Pat realized that his sobriety was essential for Rose, sobriety was not a question. He was clean. I get it.

Not saying it is the best option cause it is not. However being a former pill addict myself (Perks, vicodens and the like) I can say Kratom is very similar but with less of a punch. It hits the opiod receptors just like those. I have heard enough stories at this point to write this to you cause I know enough people who have stopped pills through kratom. It really stops the cravings and gives pain relief etc. Just a thought. I wouldn't mention it if it didn't work. It does. Been there, done that. Good Luck.

thats true, but when you get hooked its a strong kick and you chase after that high. some might even smoke weed along side it as well as alcohol. but you're right, once you come out clean and get out of those dangerous habits, marijuana is good to kinda keep you out of that i guess.

If you didn't love what Rose did at 217 and what she is bringing back to what it means to be a respectable champion, you don't have a pulse. I didn't know a whole lot about Pat and became an instant fan of Rose's after the first face off with JJ and I consider myself a manly man but dammit you two made me get a tear watching this interview. What better a coming out party for a classy girl like Rose than being on the same card as the most modest champion ever to carry a belt in the UFC, GSP. I agree with you that this was one of your top two interviews. I love Pat and Rose, they are so authentic and humble. I've been almost identical to Pat with respect to his struggle with alcohol and addiction. Seems to happen when you are on your A-game, then some injury causes you to be prescribed narcotic pain killers, and before you know it you are full-blown addicted and self-medicating with alcohol on top of it. I'm so glad that Pat had his moment of clarity and is clean, and not just for himself, but because he saw what it was doing to Rose and her career. It takes guts to put someone else's priorities higher than your own, especially as an addict, which only speaks volumes to Pat's character. God bless them both!

Pat, man. Much respect for owning up to your flaws and taking measures to correct them. In an age where everyone thinks they're special, that's a refreshing thing to hear in a youtube video. Stay the course, it's only a matter of process and all will be set right again!

Being honest and a realist about yourself and how your actions affect others around you, THEN being able to pull yourself put of that while detoxing is nothing short of truly remarkable and amazing. It takes a strong person to realize the real problems within oneself, let alone admit them and fix them. That's a great man there.

Brock also had the same issue. I'm surprised Brock didn't notice his behavior. Addiction is the hardest thing I ever had to deal with. It's still very hard. Pills are the same thing as heroine. The only difference is that they are synthetically enhanced by the pharmaceutical companies.

Bothers me that Pat never got the push to be the company mascot that Conor has become. I know he was 50/50 as far as his fighting record goes, but honestly probably the funniest, most animated, real dudes the UFC ever had. Never had a boring fight either - kill or be killed.

EI8HT 8IT WHAT, UFC weren't going to push him because he made people laugh , it's the supporters who decide who the UFC push , they are a business and won't spend promotion money on someone unless it makes sense , I like the guy but he wasn't serious about his career , Whisky, Pills, Diet, lifestyle??

@AimZ2909 Obviously you have Never heard or at least dont know of him that long Because this is Pat Barry in Park or maybe just in 1st Gear - Go back and watch some of his Old videos/interviews and you'll recognise... This guy was in Dublin over a Decade ago Partying with Gregor when Conor was barely 18yro - theres a Pic takin of both of them and others where theyre Stripped to the Waist Flexing, and this was when Barry was Famous AF as a Fighter yet the dude is Partying with a Gang of Mad Irish Drinkin Headcases way back when Conors Team DID Party...........He's NOT on anything Here - its easy to tell for anyone who knows or follows his career.....
