I wouldn’t be the person I am today (at almost 47) had I never watched this movie when it first came out. My already existing values, morals, ideals and ethics were just firmly cemented due to their representation in this film. The scene where the statue of Billie Jean burns like an effigy and topples was just as powerful to me then as it is today. I wish there were more strong female role models like Billie Jean being represented in the world today. People who are true to themselves, their unwavering integrity, no “game face” that differs from the one they show in public, independent and resourceful and able to rise to any challenge and overcome it. I saw myself in Billie Jean then, and I see her now still, only older, wiser and more discerning. If this was standard role model representation now (rather than what we usually see from “role models” these days) I unequivocally believe this world would be a much better place to be. Never has the concept of “Fair is Fair” held more of a significance than it does today. I hope the world wakes up before it’s too late for all of us.

The 80s is the best era of music. Original sound. Artists had their own style. They had their own sound to where one can easily learn who was playing on the radio. One can jam all day and never get bored. Today's music has the same sound. Nothing is original. No style. And it gets boring relatively quick. And it gets so bad that it seems that half the time one can't tell who is on the radio. There's a reason that today's artists are becoming less popular as time goes on.

I was just listening to this song yesterday and I had the same thought! I'd never noticed it before but to be fair, it had been years since I had listened to this one. I actually looked up whether or not it was Duran Duran who co-wrote & played with her lol. I should add that I was listening to the audio only and hadn't watched the official video. Anyway, I was a huge DD fan back then, so it's a massive compliment. This is still such a fantastic song.

G'day Chloe. Not sure why you would say Pat Benatar is underrated? Her first album was a smash success, from that moment on Pat Benatar was rated as one of the Best and would become one of the Greats. Here's a few things to consider. Two multi-platinum albums, five platinum albums, 15 Billboard top 40 singles, sold millions and millions of albums worldwide when the only way to buy one was pay for it in the Record Stores. Four-time Grammy Award winner along with numerous other major awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November 2022. along with impressive company, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, and Carly Simon. (Stevie Nicks 2019, Ann and Nancy Wilson along with the band members of Heart 2013 Bonnie Tyler is a Top artist who has not been inducted into the RRH of Fame). Pat Benatar is 69 and has been singing to admiring audiences since the 70's. Revered and respected by peers a feminist icon and from all accounts admired and respected across all genders. Our radio station may be a small one here in Victoria, Australia but when ever a presenter/DJ on 94.9mainFM plays Pat Benatar people dance. Regards Glenn.

I believe she's 5 octave range, but either way she's never needed "studio work" to make her voice carry power, she was trained in Opera as a child, which is how she developed such a strong voice, they taught her how to Breathe properly, which few singers actually take the time to learn, and the younger you learn it the more time and advantage you have.

Although it's totally acceptable due to her age, she unfortunately is unable to hit those high notes as hard as in this video. She still has more talent than most female singers today though, which is more than a little funny. A 69year old woman has more range and talent than quite a few people that are a third her age. But, I'm glad to be able to say that. It means she's unlikely to be forgotten in the musical history books.

Pat Benatar is a Jersey girl who defied the pressure & corruptive taint of the music industry, marrying her lead guitarist (still is) & has been a powerful force in exposing the sins of society, each time allowing survival. She is a lady of short stature but a big heart, a towering talent.

@Unseelie Court ~ You are enlightened, with a vision that sees (perhaps?) too much & a mind honed sharp here so many of the thralls of mass media see hardly where they are led. Bravo on your observation. "Invincible" was / is a song of dedication to a purpose noble & held through the centuries by poets & dreamers who believed in the light of truth. As for "Hell is for children" - in light of our species talent for harming the meek & torturing the helpless - maybe we deserve impending oblivion. Then, maybe, Nature could evolve an animal species to take our place & treat this planet better.
@CosmopolitanFools

@Unseelie Court ~ as technology trains us to lose self-reliance, imagination & the visionary scope of "what if" - humans are fast losing their humanity. Part of our defining features is to be kind, humane. As e express cruelty to the innocent, the weak & indefensible - there comes the "might makes right" more primitive. Animals are easy victims The animals that are human-like are the ones domesticated thousands of years back, often decorated by humans. However, no is a time hen Nature is not in the once standard linear form . . . instead being a seething thing of chaos. As when one is writhing in delirium in what may be their deathbed, Nature is convulsing to rid itself of the spreading infection of our species. As with any threatening illness, either the cause (us) of that sickness will perish or the host - planet Earth. Best advice, center your Chi, meditate and / or pray, & celebrate the small & often neglected things of beauty, seeing & feeling as though 1st time doing so.

@Unseelie Court ~ The changing times, the mores & ethics are devolving, making (through mass media promotion & controlled conditioning) making us into obedient sheep. It is a decades old regime of commercialization, consumerism, & headline propaganda. The human brain is very receptive & a constant barrage of image & worded enforcement, making us think it was our (individual) idea or "natural" part of our character. Ironic that we are in "the rat race" because, experimentally, we are lab rats.

Holly also wrote Love Is A Battlefield and Simply The Best, what a very talented and successful woman. Don't let your skin get get to thin. There is so much music out there. Find your spot. Don't you ever let people dictate your listening habits. But, be open. Like I said, you made my morning. Now it's time get and wrapped these babies around my head and listen. True lyrics? Rush. The thinking man's heavy metal. Neil Peart. Greatest lyricists ever. And the greatest drummer. Please, start with the album "signals" and listen to "Subdivisions" track 1. You will be hooked. Thank my friend. Let's move to the music. And, girls ROCK.
