"Have You Heard" is one of the most impressive pieces of music I can think of so far. As you say, Dr., everything unfolds in the solo. What a solo it is! Metheny goes from one apex to the next, before making a perfect landing as he gives it back to the band. What a journey! And yes, those chords preceding the solo, that sense of expectation they convey, is fantastic. The whole piece is just mind-blowing. Including the arrangement and the use of the solo vocalist. No pun intented, but I have never heard anything like it!

Thanks for this! The interludes before and after the solo(s) are some of my favourite parts. I like how you described it as "holding his breath" before the solo. The interlude after the solo sounds like the piece is "cooling down" after an intense solo, and it gives Pat a chance to do that after the solo before playing the fast melody again. I really love the chords there. This piece really shows what Pat is capable of as a composer and what a complicated piece he can write without Lyle's help (though Lyle's counterpoint line on the trumpet takes the head to another place). Do you think that the fast melody of this piece was inspired by early bebop tunes? The blues solo section gives the piece a bit of a hard bop sound too.

These videos are so great! Will you ever do a video on “And Then I Knew” by PMG? It has a big build up after the guitar solo that is complex in the same way that the build up from “Minuano” is. Do you know if this build up was also composed by Lyle Mays?

I have been fascinated by the Pat Metheny Group for several years and have been lucky to see the original group live a few times. I have also seen Pat in the Orchestrion setup. Your excellent videos with your rhythmical and harmonic analyses concerning also composing, are extremely interesting and have made me enjoy the works with more depth and renewed interest. Impressed also by the ease which you are able to play and demonstrate the works!!

@@larssol1 The Orchestrion is continuously playing in my car. I love this album. I'm glad to know that my videos are making you enjoy the music even more. These observations also help me as a composer to fix my own tunes - so this is maybe where the composition angle is coming from. Thinking of it now, perhaps I need to start a thing where my followers send over compositions for reviewing - I will have to think of the right format. Thanks a lot, again!

Mac the lovers of this music who are not trained musicians are so important to me when I'm making these videos. It's like me watching a fine movie or a painting. I don't know much about the technicality of it - yet I can be totally absorbed by it. Thank you for this comment! :)

@@dr.guyshkolnik_composer You're welcome. One other thing I've always felt about their music is in most cases their song titles are so fitting for the music itself. What I mean is that I can't imagine the song title being anything other that what they decided to call it. And when I came across your video on Close To Home it made me think that maybe I'm not the only person that thinks this.
