The instrument is a Coral Sitar (basically an electric guitar with a special rosewood bridge that causes all the strings to make a whirring sound, mimicking an actual sitar.) Vinnie Bell invented it for the Danelectro company in the '60s. It actually has a sound all it's own. They were very popular in '60s and '70s pop and R&B music (and no, not the Beatles. That was a real sitar). Many hits recorded on this instrument. This one had some modifications. This is one of my favorite songs on this beautiful instrument.

This had once been my most powerful melody, I was in a hostile environment and in an extremely difficult situation in life, prone to suicide or any other mad act, yet I knew this melody and that piece, I had it on any time in my earphones, long ago, and it gave me such courage that I went through all of it, in fact I sometimes laughed about the situation, and I knew I just had to go through it, it was the only thing of help at the time, it lifted me up in the worst of circumstances, it gave me a determination to reach outside of where I was, even the title of the song was helpful, last train home, I knew that would take me home, and not sure it was this piece of music or any other higher force, I got there where I headed to be. Each time when I listen to it I am moved, and if I were to choose a piece for any circumstance of life, it would be right this one, what a fantastic group of musicians of and around Pat Metheny.

On a cool early autmun day, my best friend and I took that last train ride from the south central portion of Washington state to the north east corner where I had always told him from day one, " I will, get you home. No matter the distance, the conditions or the situation, I WILL get you home and take care of you." I kept that promise with tis exact music playing the entire length back home.... That was almost 16 years ago , two years and a bit after his passing to the day of this posting. He and I shared thousands of miles, endless plane train and car and truck rides togetehr and through it all in the end, he nor I ever complained about the shortness of life . Instead , we lived that moment that day and that minute only for that point in time. Mister Pat Metheny, you've been the music and the background score for so many of us in so many circurstances and in so many points in many of our lives. It's to you who we owe you so much for being the person and the soul to so many of our lives and providing the background score for all of us , with no regard to our background or stories . For we all, all very much alike... Whisltes blowin' , and we sir, Salute you . B Bear 11-11-07/08=27-2021
