Having been a gm for Pat for years, he was always like this. I very much enjoyed having him throw me a curve ball as it kept me on my toes and often lead to a much more enjoyable scene. Although I would just as often call him on his bs.

Thing is, how many of these scenarios actually helped them finish the show on time? Do you have a long drawn-out fight between multiple characters which will make the show go over by almost 40 minutes or do you drop a chandelier on them and get the hall cleared out in time for the next event?

@@Abitflippant Pat really labors over every single word, literally, I followed his blog for the four years between name of the wind and wise mans fear and he would write about his struggles trying to make a word/sentence/paragraph/narrative sound right to him. The time he spends to make every word important, not just filler, but part of a bigger canvas that is this beautifully complex use of written word and storytelling to create books that are not only interesting to read in plot, but also fulfilling and enjoyable in structure and prose is definitely worth waiting for. (Here's hoping he doesn't spend 17 years working on book 3 like he did on book 1 however.)

@@doublejesusful That excuse would work if there wasn't other authors who write books CONSISTENTANTLY with NOOOOOOOOO PROBLEMS AT ALLL. Mr. Rothfuss likes stringing the readers of his books along like George RR Martin does. People like this are pieces of shit who enjoy manipulating people.

"You think the chandelier is your ally? You merely adopted the chandelier. I was born in it, molded by it." ~ Viari, probably
@thecactusman17
@thecactusman17 3 жыл бұрын
It's just as important to note that Viari's character sheet at this time is a Swashbuckler Rogue who has Expertise or Advantage and a minimum roll of 10 in nearly every skill he applies this bullshit to. So Perkins is more often than not just acknowledging that he's mathematically likely to flawlessly manage most of this stuff even if he does roll.

At 2:05 "can I sneak attack with a chandelier?" So this wasn't even his first one! I'm watching this only one day after the 2019 Pax show where the lead rules designer for DnD had to reluctantly revoke his "no Pat, you may not sneak attack with a chandelier" statement after realizing that the attack roll was made with advantage and used his dexterity modifier.

I like that this doesn't acknowledge Chris' retribution on Pat when the dagger melted half his body, or when a bunch of dryad's tried to hang him, or when a robo Beholder fell on top of him. And this isn't a sleight against the video, it's just funny that for all Pat's BS, Chris takes it out on him too.

This is actually a really cool inspiration for GMs. Imagine building the narrative of one of your PCs around his uncanny ability to complete anything successfully, and all the world falls into place for him. Then at (maybe) 8th or 9th level, it just stops working and he starts failing everything. Isn't that an opportunity for a third-tier story arc?

Good video and an amazing idea. One observation though: your audio is all over the place. At times, the volume is so low you have to crank headset volume and at other times it's so loud it sounds like over-volume on a 1983 JVC TV hooked up to a VCR where it's just straight noise. Consider adjusting and mastering the audio next time, and that would have made this video perfect
