Detailed instructions for tying Pat's Rubber Legs.
Hook: 3X-long nymph hook (here, a Dai-Riki 710), sizes 4-12.
Weight: .015 lead-free wire.
Thread: 6/0 or 140 Denier, black.
Tails and antennae: Black Spanflex or similar.
Body: Variegated Chenille, medium, black-and-coffee.
Legs: Black Spanflex or similar

Yep I noticed a bunch of stoneflies on the rocks and the trout weren't biting. I switched over and put a Pat's rubber leg on and caught fish right off the bat. Thanks for this tutorial

Great step-by-step video,love the use of easy hackle pliers for doing the lead wraps,great idea,I coat the hook shank with flex-seal before I tie my lead on seems to hold it in place better.

Very nice Tim, think bass will love them as much as trout do! I use this method to put legs on my ant flies. I glue on heavy thread legs and then coat them with a bit of UV resin to stiffen the thread and hold the legs in the positions I want. Hank

For a virtually tack-free and affordable resin, try Solarez. It comes in thin, thick, and flexible formulas and is available through Hook and Hackle Company and I believe Feather-Craft. You do have to apply resin and deal with a separate torch, however.

Really clever idea. I did discover however you can't do this with silicone legs. Probably should have known because I use silicone spatulas for glueing up woodworking projects. Still, great idea for other materials

Would a traditional "hot glue gun" be enough to hold the flexi on there? It's just for the initial hold job, and seems like a more economical approach. (since I don't have the uv glue)

I don't understand the point of tying in the antenna the length of the hook shank, and the tails half the length. On the natural, the tails are longer. I did notice you trimmed the antenna at the end, but still at least as long as the tail. Wouldn't it make more sense to get the length of the antenna right from the start?

The resin and torch are combined in one pen-like tool, which is very handy. It is called Bondic and is widely available both in brick and mortar stores and online.

Half Hitch Mag by Rite Bobbin. Tapered stainless tube, nice weight in hand and adjustable thread tension, works great.
