3:51:14 for anyone else confused, that symbol means that 4th pawn in Pat’s party has completed the quest, and will assist him if he hits the “Go!” command. It is incredibly hard to see, but the symbol can also be found in the top left of the screen when in your item, equipment, and status menu. If you ever see a blue hand by the quest, that means your main pawn has done the quest!

Gods, it's so wild that I've played this game for a good twenty hours now and somehow completely missed every quest in the starting encampment. I'll have to check back in once I return from Battahl, I felt like I explored that area well enough but I guess I just whiffed every quest npc somehow. The first hour or so of the stream has all been new shit to me lmao.

the only reason you'd need the first game is if you needed a recap of basic climbing, grabbing, and throwing mechanics, BTW FOR ANY WHO DONT KNOW, if you get an escort quest, and the character is walking too slow you can CARRY them, like samwise did frodo, just look out for enemies

I had a pack of Saurians pop out while I was hunting down some thief npc, they popped out in the city square, iced a random woman and triggered the thief npc to talk to me as if I had started whooping his ass instead of Saurians. I don't know what the fuck causes that, but I don't care for it

I need to say (for the benefit of anyone only half-paying-attention) that a lot of this game's negative reception is overblown/misinformed - The microtransactions are the Capcom thing where they just sell semi-rare items for money, in case you're rich and extremely lazy. It's like how the RE4:Remake Steam page sells you extra weapon upgrade tickets for money. Nothing's been taken out of the game to be re-sold, and nothing's been made artificially rare to make the MTX more enticing - Changing your character's appearance is locked behind a rare item, but it's not MTX-only like people have been saying. Dragon's Dogma has some borderline-immersive-sim mechanics where things you take for granted in other games are really difficult/labor-intensive here - that's part of what made it unique - and this is one of them - You ARE able to re-make your character if you delete your save data. The Steam reviewer who said "you can't change your appearance in New Game because it's saved in the cloud!" is just bad at deleting their save data and just made a blind guess as to why that was - There's only one save file because that's how Dragon's Dogma works. The multiplayer pawn-pimping gimmick works best if most players are actively playing through the game and are invested in their main pawn - Fast travel isn't locked behind a paywall. The game _has_ fast travel - there's a rare/limited item that lets you set a fast travel destination (these can be moved again for free), and the store page is just selling bonus ones as MTX. Again, for the rich and lazy - Obviously varies by system, but performance isn't that bad on a good/new-ish PC, in my experience. What PC gamers call "terrible optimization" and "unacceptable framerate" usually means "the game dips to 30-40 in really busy areas like hub cities"

Tbf its pretty shitty needing to do anything outside of game to delete your save. Dipping below 60 on high end hardware means the game is poorly optimized. The fps problems are worse on consoles. Capcom's in-game practices are already shit but they are made worse by the nature of this game. (Long travel distances between locations.) Plus not telling people about them beforehand. The problems aren't overblown, they just bother some people more then others.

Please enjoy getting your game bricked by Denuvo because deleting your save data counts as another activation. Having to fuck around with save files outside of the game should not be an expected standard, and it shouldn't be defended as a norm.

You're not having game content cut out and re-sold to you or shoved behind a paywall, it's not being advertised to you in-game, so why is it actually a problem? I'm 100% sure the game was designed without those extra items in mind, theme/balance-wise. It's basically just "if you're stupid enough to want to ruin the experience for yourself, and so rich that you're willing to _pay_ to do that, give us $1.50 and we'll make it happen." It's an idiot tax I'm not shilling for publishers, it just seems like a misallocation of anger resources. I'm way madder about the game being $69.99 than I am about any of the MTX

The item to change your appearance isn't even that rare in-game. A shop in the Gran Soren equivalent town sells 2 of them for 500 rune crystals a pop, which is dirt cheap.

Ff7 rebirth hard mode content, unicorn overlord, the upcoming stellar blade, paper mario, the list keeps going. Too many potentially good games. And I'm so glad I caved and bought this game

Can someone explain to me what's going on with DD2 this week? It's been kinda insane with the PC performance/crashes messages, drama over the lack of saves and reveal of microtransactions. The last one unfortunately doesn't surprise me as Capcom loves putting unnecessary currency in games that don't need them (DMC5, RE4). The reception's gone from very positive to vocally negative.

Pretty much all the stuff you listed, except Dragon's Dogma is not as well known as the other series you mentioned, so people don't know "they added microtransaction in a game that doesn't need them", and instead they think "They gutted the game by removing things and put them back as microtransaction bullshit". It doesn't help that the stuff you can buy is sometimes scarce on purpose in the game, but now it looks like they chose to make it rare to sell it back to players; or in some cases, you need to play for a while before you even figure out the stuff you can buy is available in the game (changing your appearance and your pawn's disposition), so it looks like basic functions were removed to force players to spend money.

The game itself IS good. The DRM sucks donkey and makes the game run worse. The optimization needs improvement because even my computer that I put together last year is having horrible framerate drops inside areas with lots of NPCs, and I already had to tone down the settings to keep it from happening in the wilderness too (in comparison I was able to run BG3 on max settings all the time and never had a problem). The microtransactions are the typical Capcom "we'll give you stuff you get a bunch of anyway if you're actually playing the game if you pay us" microtransactions that piss people off on principle (I don't disagree, but I also don't care). Also a lot of complaints about what they're selling are coming from people who don't actually understand what they're buying or how completely unimportant any of the things they're selling actually are. (Also Capcom did that scummy thing where they only added the microtransactions after the reviews had already come out.) The lack of save slots isn't the only "problem", because DD1 and Soulsborne do the same thing. The "problem" is that you can't have multiple characters period, so if you wanted to make an alt you'd have to delete your file entirely (and there's been reports of deleting your save doing horrible things to your computer), and also because your characters are saved on their servers if you go offline and try to remake you can still get your new file replaced by your old one or something. - When/if the stuff surrounding the game gets fixed/forgotten it'll go back to having good word of mouth because the game itself legitimately is good, it's just Capcom screwed the pooch in a bunch of ways and they're getting flack for it, and bandwagoners are jumping on board too because bandwagoners.

@@Graysett I think Charlie's explanation summed up pretty well why harmless microtransactions are still dangerous even if we avoid them. Because they can start out that way but then later on games become designed around being monotonous and incentivise you to start buying to alleviate the grind. This could be them laying the seeds to make people complacent. Buying orbs in DMC5 was pointless because you got enough to purchase upgrades on a pretty consistent pace, and unlocking new moves by playing was part of the fun. Now imagine if in DMC6, enemies suddenly started dropping a quarter of the amount of orbs as last game. Progression grinds to a halt but you can get past that with an easy 2 bucks of currency. This is all just an example of why some people are understandably wary.

From what I've seen it's been mostly rage-baiting. Especially the people saying "They're SELLING fast travel!?!?" when anyone who has played DD knows ferrystones are fast travel, not port crystals. Also DD2 has the oxcart system for travelling between settlements. All the useless MTX are things you get in the game and like you said Capcom has been doing these types of MTX since DMC4. I would love to see what their sales are because I've never heard of anyone ever buying these. There are things to actually complain about though, like the beefy minimum requirements, the poor cpu optimization for npcs causing towns to always have a lower framerate, and the weird oversight of having no "start new game" option on the main menu. I personally haven't had many technical issues, just one crash in 20 hours of playtime, but it could be different on different setups.
