Pat is overlooked like Frank Marino. Both are incredible guitarists. Got to see the Crash and Burn tour in 1980.

Thanks for bringing one of the most underrated rock guitarists, ever. He also is a great singer. “Boom Boom (Out Go The Lights)” and “I’d Rather See You Dead” are also classics.

Hi, Chod. A friend sent me this link and I just wanted to hi, and thanks. I played keys on this track (thanks for the shout out) and co-wrote the tune with Pat, Mars and Sandy. Tremendous fun to play and jam on and so cool to hear after all these years. Cheers, man.

The whole album (Black Pearl) is amazing. You should buy the whole album. Pat Travers Band is one of my three biggest influences growing up. The other two are Rush and Van Halen. But PTB brought a groove that neither of those other bands had. It was definitely (as they describe it) Boogie Woogie Blues.

Pat is so so good! a whole career of great stuff. That's the late. great Mars Cowling on bass...he was with pat for a long time. I love that PT throws in instrumentals a lot of the time...and they are always good. My favorite is 'Prelude' from the heat in the street album. very different than this for sure...but very empotional. actually....that whole albume is KILLER. check out the title track or 'Killer's Instinct'

Thanks for this great review, Chod. I've had the incredible privilege of being the guitarist in a band with Don Harriss, the keyboardist and co-author of this tune, for around 12 years. He always brings 100% to the music and he's one of my favorite people on the planet. I had never heard this track - got to get the album now!

The bassist, (Peter "Mars" Cowling) was a jazz bassist before joining Travers. Pat has said in an interview that there were times when he would look over at Mars and just have no idea what he was playing, but it sounded awesome.

He actually has resurected this number and has started doing it live again. But the bassist on this , Peter " Mars " Cowling has left this earth . He was with Pat since the very early years . The Drummer is Sandy Gennaro , still in Nashville , great guy .

This definitely kicks booty. It's got a Jeff Beck feel.

This song could have appeared on a Jeff Beck album from the 70s, it would not have mismatched! I also recommend the following tracks from Pat Travers: "Gettin 'Betta" (from the 1977 Putting It Straight album) and "Go All Night" (from the 1978 Heat In The Street album) or better yet, listen to the Live! Go For What You Know (recorded early 1979).

As the music community mourns in its millions, no tribute to Charlie Watts - one of rock 'n' roll's greatest drummers who was the cornerstone of the the Rolling Stones groove and swing; who began his illustrious career as a jazz musician - from Chod? So surprising given that Chod as a drummer could add an in depth insight into Watts technique and feel. Such a sin of omission.

Great reaction. Thanks! Fantastic guitarist, band and album. If you love this, and love the funk, you'd likely love Screaming Headless Torsos. Even if you don't do it as a reaction--as a drummer who likes funk and jazz, you'll likely like this band, and how this song plays out through its changes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHKumZScqKumoqcm5s
