I totally agree. Great info, but difficult to follow. Since the music issue was already addressed, I'll make another recommendation: looking at the jackets only the whole time you're talking makes it difficult to follow along. Consider talking to the camera, and either picking up and showing the item you're talking about when necessary or adding some B-roll with it. Graphics with all the numbers you mention would really help, too. Keep it up and thank you for the effort!

I went with the Nano because it was a little thinner, slimmer, and less puffy. Weight is marginal but I liked that it was thin yet warm and I also like the brick pattern stitching just because it's different from the rest. Plus, I got mine for just over $100 on sale so it was even a better bargain.

I have both, theyre both very nice jackets, micro puff is lighter and much warmer but when I hold the jacket to light source I can literally see light coming through the stitching, it will definitely rip very easily. I’ve been wearing nano puff at work for years and it is very durable. Don’t forget Patagonia will do repairs on these items in efforts to reduce carbon footprint of fashion industry.

I got a new synthetic jacket last year and settled for an Enlightened Equipment Torrid APEX. 7.75 oz. and has that 10D nylon shell. Doesn't have quilting. Not a fashion statement but was perfect for me on the PCT last summer. The Micro Puff's fill seems so much like real down that I thought it might lose it's insulating ability if it gets wet.

That’s interesting, Reverend! I wasn’t aware that EE made a synthetic jacket! I know I’ve been ecstatically pleased with my Enlightened Equipment 20degree quilt (in fact, I’m in the process of ordering a 0degree one, as well). I may just have to look into the Torrid. Especially, as it proved itself on the PCT for you! Any idea of lowest temp you endured comfortably in the Torrid?

Ok, a 2 y/o video and I didn‘t find anyone replying on the pocket placement? It‘s for better accessability when u r wesring a climbing harness or your backpack hip belt. So it‘s a feature for alpinist and hikers. When you tell me you prefer the lower pockets I assume u r mostly using it casually what is ok, but for someone looking for an insulating layer climbing outdoors or mountaineering I guess this would be a very helpful information about a helpful feature. Also everyone who said the micro seemes a bit burly of material, its for alpine use made from ripstop. Also patagonia has a lifetime warranty on their products. So if u r bot so unlucky to get stuck on a tree while jumping off of it and rip your jacket (which was a patagonia air hoody) it will be fine.
@BackcountryRenegade
@BackcountryRenegade 2 жыл бұрын
Not really only for casual, These are higher then typical climbing jacket that still have raised pocket to make room for a harness like the proton. It just feels more unnatural, but it is good for what it does. Yes it has a life time warranty , but when your on a through hike you don’t have the luxury of an exchange to wait on which is why it needs to be mentioned, to be extra delicate. Anyways micro puff is a great jacket for what it is

I have both. It really depends on your temperature preferences and how hot/cold you tend to run. Nano puff is my daily go to and perfect for that transitional weather. Also not bad for a ski trip to add an extra layer of warmth. While this is a nice tech layer - it does at a certain point meet its limits and get damn cold… so don’t expect a miracle here. Below freezing you will need to layer or get a warmer jacket. Micro puff is warmer in my opinion and it also packs down a great deal more. If I could pick one travel be all end all knowing I was going somewhere with variable weather it would likely be the micro puff. I’d probably also grab a shell for good measure and those two together would have you pretty toasty. I recommend both!

I wish the face fabric on all these was atleast a 40D cause a rarely wear them with a shell over or get to hot. Having that 10D Pertex makes packing easier but you catch a bramble you’re donzo. With all that said though, I prefer the nano puff. Just seems to be more versatile in terms of use cases for me.. but that’s all subjective. I recommend going to an REI or EMS to try them on ahead of buying. Sizing is different than most brands and you’re definitely going to prefer one over the other in person.

I love the Nano puff because I had one for the last 9 years and it just finally got to the point that it needs to be replaced. A little heavier but 9 years of use out of a jacket is amazing. It is made with sustainable materials and its longevity is also sustainable. I’m sure the micro puff is also durable because Patagonia makes quality products but a few ounces wasn’t enough to make me give up on picking up another nano puff. The nano is comfortable and it becomes more comfortable with time. I recommend it

I own the following synthetics: Patagonia Micro Puff Hoody, the Rab Xenon X Hoody, and the Arcteryx Atom LT. Of the three, the Rab has been my “go to” for hiking/backpacking/bikepacking…. when wet and/or freezing wet conditions are forecast. The Atom? I use it only for active day hikes when temps are forecast for the high 30s to low 40s.. The MicroPuff? Nice jacket, but it just hasn’t passed merit in really cold AND wet conditions. Also, I wish that the MicroPuff had waist cinching. I really had high hopes for the Micro Puff, and while purchasing was an expensive lesson….I never, ever, NEVER pay full price for outdoor clothing. I buy everything post-season. Yep. It means weird colors, sometimes, maybe lack of correct sizing, but let’s face it: outdoor activities aren’t about catalog posing! This was a great review, as I’ve often wondered why Patty makes both!

For my 3 season jackets I like to have them hood less like these. And if I plan to use it as a layer I prefer hoodless as well plus it saves a few extra ounces not getting the hood . For my bigger winter jackets where it will get below 30 I’ll sometimes do a hood. For my winter mountaineering out for I use the north face summit L3 down jacket and it has a hood, since I had that I didn’t want another hooded jacket. Hope that helps.

@BackcountryRenegade

I think you'd find the Arctyrx to be warmer than either of these, depends on your needs, level of activity, etc. I have looked at both of the Patagonia jackets and have their hooded Down Sweater, which is very similar to the Cerenium. I think the Sweater is likely warmer than these options, especially the Nano. The Nano is pretty light, Micro is said to be a little warmer. I ended up with the hooded Arctyrx Atom LT for my mid-weight instead of either of these due in part to fit. I find it warmer than anticipated, very comfortable, great fit and range of motion, but not at the warmth level of the Down Sweater, which was the plan.

"Water resistant" (they all say this) is an almost meaningless marketing term. In any event, don't even think about using a "water resistant" garment in, you know, the rain. You'll get wet. Other than that quibble, this was an excellent review.

Its beyond my understanding to add background music on videos like this? Its muddles the speech and its distracting. Especially as it added to the echo due to the audio quality. So unfortunately I didn't take anything from this and gave up within a minute. Anyhow, ATB.
