100 lives are obtained by getting all 120 stars in the game, which opens up a cannon outside of Peach's castle. If you use that cannon and blast yourself unto the roof of the castle, you find yoshi there. Talking to him makes him give you 100 lives.

There are like 4 possible ways to die in Super Mario 64 1 - Damage from enemies exceeds total health 2 - Damage from danger zones or dangerous objects exceeds total health 3 - Fall damage exceeds total health 4 - Bottomless pits as instant kill A ultimate tripple combo is possible in the level with the blue switch. Long jump down, land directly on edge and lose all health still fall down in bottomless pit, back at the castle drown instantly.
