This video is a tribute to a movie called "A Patch of Blue". The movie was released in 1965 & starred Elizabeth Hartman,Shelly WInters,Sidney Poitier & Wallace Ford. I really love the theme of the movie "Love is Blind" & the outstanding performances by Elizabeth Hartman who plays Selena & Shelly Winters who plays Rose-Ann her performance was so good as the abusive,bigoted mother that she won an Academy Award. She definately deseverd an OSCAR I just wish Elizabeth would have won one too. Her performance as Selena is spot on you end up forgetting that she's not really blind,she did an awesome job.
Description of movie found atwww.imdb.com/ti...
Accidentally blinded by her prostitute mother Rose-Ann at the age of five, Selena D'Arcy spends the next 13 years confined in the tiny Los Angeles apartment that they share with "Ole Pa", Selena's grandfather. One afternoon at the local park, Selena meets Gordon Ralfe, a thoughtful young office worker whose kind-hearted treatment of her results in her falling in love with him, unaware that he is black. They continue to meet in the park every afternoon and he teaches her how to get along in the city. But when the cruel, domineering Rose-Ann learns of their relationship, she forbids her to have anything more to do with him because he is black. Selena continues to meet Gordon despite Rose-Ann's fury, who is determined to end the relationship for good. Written by alfiehitchie
I hope you enjoy my video! God Bless! :)

First saw this movie in 1972. I was moved beyond tears by the story and the performances and remains one of the finest movies I’ve ever seen. Revisiting it today with the passing of Mr. Poitier. Rest In Peace.

This movie was made in 1965 during the height of integration. Very brave. And super well done.... one of my favorite movies of all time

The early 1960s were the start of a few interracial couples' push for legal and societal allowance of such romance and marriage. This movie was made two years before Janis Ian's 1967 hit song Society's Child, which lamented the still societal ban on interracial romances, as with her verse "when we're older, things may change, / But for now they must remain; / They say, I can't see you any more, Baby ****."

When I saw it I was so impressed by the acting and portrayal of Sidney, Mary and Shelly. Shelly went to my school so I was ecstatic. But the message and theme of the movie was shunned by many.

Present day Hollywood NEEDS to stop stereotyping black men. The basic premise of this is, kindness, and compassion.

I saw this film when it premiered in 1965. I was 14. My mother wanted me to see it because of its theme of caring and compassion - and its obvious advocacy for human rights and human dignity. Elizabeth Hartman was only 21 when she made this film, and yet she shone brilliantly alongside the great Sidney Poitier. My mother passed away at the age of 89 on December 29, 2018. I miss her dearly. And I whenever I think of this film, I think of her and I remember why she wanted me to see it - which I always have.

I love "Selina's" voice. It sounds so delicate and child-like! I cried a bucket recently when I discovered she killed herself. She wasn't near as tough as her character, Selina. Such cruel irony!

A tribute to this movie must include a discussion of the outstanding performance of Sidney Poitier. Without his outstanding work, the movie would not be as memorable. Mr. Poitier was nominated for a Golden Globe award for his work In a Patch Of Blue.

when i was 7 my mother put this movie on. Even at that age I hated the way she was treated and adored him. I had a crush on this man as a 7 year old gay boy! He was so fun, nice and handsome. He was so nice to her. I was stunned and couldn't stop thinking about this movie.

This movie was a poignant learning experience ; if only Elizabeth didn’t turn down the job offer in “ Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner”, I’m sure Sidney Poitier would have led her in the right direction when she was myopic to the real causes of her chronic depression💖💜💔✝️

The scene where Gordon and Selena walk pass the two old women who glare at them stands out to me because one of the ladies is pushing a baby carriage...never really noticed this...I think the baby carriage represents what the women were thinking to themselves...as in how awful it would be for them to have a baby together because heaven forbid a mixed race child is born from this...😡

No.one. with parents like the Elizabeth Hartman character's (whore mother, violent absentee father) in this film should ever listen to them. Instead, they should do the exact opposite. Honor only parents who protect and care for their children.

@@JudgeJulieLit Think she jumped out of an apartment window to her death in 1984. Have the "Walking Tall" (1973) movie with her in it. She is also in "The Beguiled" (1971). Guess you are checking out Sidney Poiter movies because of his death.
@JudgeJulieLit

@@randallamps Yes, good guess. Her suicide nineteen years after this film is tragic; perhaps she could not consistently live up to her high standards, and/or past film successes. Thank you for that short list of her films, will view them. A year after A Patch of Blue, in the film The Group (adapted from a Mary McCarthy novel) she played one of a bevy of 1930s Vassar graduates.
