Been in that kind of blow just once in our boat on Lake Michigan. Came from nowhere in about 10 min. We were early season Coho fishing. That experience makes you understand your air addiction in a world of water.

*Nice to see you again Capt. aka Chef Dan.. As far as the Houndfish I've caught Snook, Kingfish with small ones at night up the coast from you around the Boca Inlet. Yeah I know how you love Kingfish...Not! I've eaten the larger Houndfish... my kids wanted to eat them and after we'd caught at least 10 lunker Houndfish one afternoon... we took 4 home and so so anyway... They are actually good eating if you gill/tail bleed them and keep'm salt/slushed iced & they're really easy to clean if you fillet from the tail to the head... They have a really good meat to waste ratio... The flesh is blueish/light gray and I light salt/vinegar brined them for several hours in the fridge. The meat turns white when cooked/broiled/bake at 450/500 F covered in Panko with lemon butter and capers.* ..gw

gw wile; That is the most information I have ever know about hound fish. Most everyone I know knows very little about them. Good to know they are edible. Will have try your method the next time we catch a larger one. Thanks!! - Capt Dan
@gwddmt14 жыл бұрын
@@FloridaFishingCouple *You're very welcome... PS When I say a light salt/vinegar brine... that means 1 level tablespoon salt and one Tbsp of white vinegar added to 3 cups of cold water... Make sure the fish is covered in the brine for at least an hour and up to 24... kept in the Fridge... and then just pat dry before prep... Also... and especially if you are going to freeze any fish in plastic bags... just add the brine and go straight to the freezer with your fish... & with just enough brine to immerse and cover the fish with all the air out.... I've taken fish that were in the freezer & done this way that were frozen for 5 years and they tasted like they were caught yesterday after thawed in the fridge... I've done it with all my fish for over 60 years... Well, not the waiting 5 years part... but using light saty/vinegar brine part... My Grandma taught me this and I've passed this on to every fish prep'n-eat'n... I/2 to whole Pescatarian I can share it with. So now... you've been shared/know the drill Capt...* lol ..gw

I always cook yellowtail whole. Of course I scale it and gut it first. Then I make vertical cuts on the yellow tail, rub some avocado oil (not too much), then sprinkle some salt and paprika and that's it. Put it on a hot pan with nothing else. I put the pan on the grill and as the fish cooks, the skin starts pealing off and the white tender meat reveals itself. It's time to eat!! You can still taste the white and tender meat of yellowtail without being overwhelmed with all the other sauces and junk... When I eat fish, I want to taste the fish, otherwise what's the point, right? Try it, you won't regret it.
