I just rode PATCO for the first time. An interesting rapid transit system that feels like a heavy rail commuter train in New Jersey and more like a subway system when it gets underground in Philly. I liked the vintage seats, the open operators cab and the large picture windows on the front car of the older Vickers cars.

What vintage seats. the seats are practically brand new. PATCO just overhauled the cars. 90% of the car is brand new. only thing they didn't change is the propulsion.

I've always wondered where those tracks after 15-16th goes too but my guess is just bits and remains of the old city hall loop that was used in the earlier days of the broad street line

As soon as you get under the ben Franklin you can see the Franklin square station which has been out of use since the 70’s apparently reopening in 2024.

I ride this all the time. I would love to see some rapid transit routes like this and the path on train simulator. It would be neat.

It may be called the Speedline. From what I'm seeing here, that's a misnomer. I see a lot of straight track, long distances between stations, and not a whole lot of speed.

If you take into consideration that cars encounter traffic, red lights, and accidents 65-70 being an average speed is great since trains don’t usually run into stuff like that

Back then with the old cars they use to run up to 70-75 mph an hour, then when they created the new cars they cut back on some speed limits to save money on repair costs

The one thing I've noticed about PATCO operators is that approaching 8th & Market, they never include the Regional Rail as a connection.

i like riding PATCO just for fun. it seems like when its in auto mode, the train doesnt really use the brakes to slow down. it just reduce the amount of power to the motors, cuz the train glides to a stop. instead of the brakes just slamming on like humans do.
