1989 Tour de France time trial live on ITV-4 ( 4 of 5 )

I recorded the last days time trial between Greg LeMond and Laurent Fignon back in 1989, I came across the VHS tape in one of my card board box's and thought I would upload it for everybody to watch. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do

Pat, many, many thanks for uploading this... this is still my favourite sporting event of all time. It is just as exciting to watch now as then. So sorry for Fignon though, a tragic blow for him.

You would like too see the two of them as eventual winner's in that regard, but we all know that's not possible in the world of sport considering neither one should of lost on the day under the circumstances because they were both great champions (et c'est la vie)

Thank you so much for uploading, WHAT AN INCREDIBLE FEW MINUTES, WITH SUCH AMAZING, POETIC COMMENTARY. Started watching Le Tour from the late 80's and remember it was on Channel 4 (UK ) then. Shamefully ITV sacked Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen and employed lesser people, so I watch Eurosport -very good except Sean Kelly 's accent (but knowledgeable ) Hope they try to hire Liggett and Sherwen for 2018 - they would make a small fortune in new subscribers.

I don't think I have ever seen a road time trial with someone riding with a disc wheel back and front like fignon

Neither have I, and probably for good reason: disc wheels are for aerodynamics, but they need to be firmly controlled, since they're essentially sails. Having a front disc wheel makes you fight to control your steering far more than you should with a normal wire wheel, but rear disc wheels don't usually do that, since you're usually putting more weight on the rear wheel on a bike, and you're not using the rear wheel for steering.

I remember watching this, aged 12 with my Dad and nearly wetting myself with excitement. Inspired me to start racing, I even raced in Holland for ESCA (English Schools Cycling Association), and let me tell you...those Dutch kids were quick.

Still the most exciting adventure riding the bicycles out there following riders, still the greatest emotion fans, now you can realize how much web technologies are helping sport competitions as well, how crucial is being connected fans, let's recall the times when all this was.. impossible to imagine, we all was dreaming using the mass media power in order to promote cycling those who do not love it yet, yeah, heavenly delight fans

Maybe... but nothing like following years... probably vitamin shots and the odd amphetamine at most. I like to think this was the last year of cleanish pre EPO cycling.... I'm probably wrong though... whatever it was and is the best tour ever entertainment wise.
