The Patek Philippe Aquanaut features a 40mm stainless steel case surrounding a black waffle dial on a black rubber strap with a stainless steel deployant buckle. Functions include hours, minutes, seconds and date. The watch also measures 8.3mm in thickness and 46.6mm from lug-to-lug.

My preference over the Nautilus. This is an easier watch to wear in more situations than the Nautilus, and it doesn't carry the same air of hauteur. Still water resistant to 120 meters, this is a no-compromise alternative to a 5711A and a real in-house rival. Nautilus or Aquanaut: which do you prefer? Best, Tim

I used to prefer the 5711 but lately I have been seeing the virtues of the aquanaut (although the wife thinks it looks "common"). In fact, I am exploring the purchase of one. My Smurf needs a little brother.

It's a very beautiful watch. The dial is just perfect and has a lot of details. Amazing how thin it is for a sport watch. It's the only Patek on a rubber strap with the expected Patek finishing and attention to detail. I prefer this watch on the rubber strap, and even though, if you collect watches, should own both (the Nautilus and the aquanaut); this one is more handsome and wears even better. I can't say enough about the dial and numerals. A great watch that is very comfortable, thin, classy and for me the only patek for every day use. Superb review.

I agree that the 5167 really belongs on a rubber strap. The bracelet is nicely made, but it seems to clash with the stripped-down and fun-loving character of the Aquanaut, and it's clearly not what the designers had in mind when they started with a clean sheet of paper in 1997. Best, Tim

I was lucky enough to see this watch at the London PP boutique last week. Apparently it will hack the second hand if you apply a light pressure to the crown to turn the hands anti clockwise. Apparently the waiting list for this model is 7 years. Great video as always Tim 👍 regards mark

Hello tim, there seems to be a variatio in the 5167 dials, this one does not say swiss made at 6 o clock, any reason for that and is there a price discrepaancy between the dial variations. Thank you

I remember seeing Thierry Stern wearing an Aquanaut on a suit during a news interview. He was probably sending a message. This can be dressed up or down and is still beautiful.

I agree that the Aquanaut can be worn in almost any circumstance. A bracelet or 'gator leather need not be mandatory to accessorize a watch for formal attire. Best, Tim

Loved mine had it for a few years, but never liked the fact that the rotor made such a loud noise, you could here it while driving the car turning a corner, for me that is too large. In every other way I loved it.

I think this is personal. I actually like the winding sound which will shows you how elegant the mechanical design is and let you feel the watch is alive :)

Wow, we have a vote for the bracelet. I'll be honest that I do prefer this strap, but owning an Aquanaut on a bracelet means owning a rarity - more so than the 5711/1A. Best, Tim

Cut to length strap... what happens when your wrist size changes or needs adjustment as you go through the days/seasons? $800 for a new one. Bad design.

Agree, for the most part! A 3700 or a 3710 would be tough to vote down in a head-to-head with any Aquanaut, but perhaps the first 1997 1,000-piece series Aquanaut 5060A could trade blows with that heavy-hitting Nautilus pair. Best, Tim
