Patek Philippe Calatrava 5127R Review (Sold 2017)

Review of my second Patek, a Calatrava 5127R in 18k Rose Gold and as a separate purchase and additionally installed - the 18k Rose Gold Calatrava Deployant clasp.

Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed my short review. Personally, I consider it to be one of the finest dress watches one could wish for; its aesthetics and proportions are spot on, even down to the smaller font on the dial! Oh I really do, and reserve it for special occasions. This of course means that my 5146 Annual Calendar does tend to see more wrist time, along with my steel RO.

Excellent review Michael. After buying my 5127J it took me 18 mo. to put the coin together to purchase the strap and deployant clasp. Great investment as it turned a great watch into an awesome watch. Very impressed that you knew what you wanted and were able to put the package together at time of purchase. Cheers.

The best looking dress watch of all time, elegant and discreet. Nice to see Patek Philippe resist the trend of oversize watches, 38-40mm range of watches are the most comfortable to wear. A comfortable watch is a watch you forget is on your wrist until you need to check the time, although I am sure you never forget you wear a Patek Philippe. Cheers.

Nordmann61 Cheers for the kind comments. My AP RO's gone back for a service, so my 5146 is getting most wrist time. However, after a good 6 months I wore the 5127 Calatrava for dinner and it's absolutely a wonderful piece. It is my 'special occasion' watch, and gets worn only a couple times a year (may be 2-3 dinners or so...) although I hope to wear it a bit more this year.

Their customer service is fabulous, I would certainly imagine so. If you're new to Patek, they are keen to educate you on each of the various models, Patek heritage etc. and they really do go the extra mile to make it a memorable occasion. I have also within the last 3 weeks made another visit to the Salon and their service has continued to be impeccable; on this occasion I met with a member of staff I had not previously acquainted with as well.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and for your price range there's plenty of choice from Omega, Tissot, to Tag etc. Your budget is a limiting factor unless you go vintage, and even then it's fairly limiting. That said, you can get something extremely functional although I would not be able to help you with specifics. I suggest you shop around the TimeZone sales corner and take a look at pieces within your budget first. Good luck!

Is it the one from Boxer Time LLC? It seems to be complete, but I'd suggest getting your local Patek service to give the watch a checkup to be sure.

yes thats the one, the shop has over 300 positive feedbacks on ebay with 0 negitive. Im half way across the world from them. I will be buying this through ebay of course. Should I trust and just buy? Me traveling all the way to the USA is not an option. I really like it but would like to take your advice first.

Hi Jim, honestly, I would never personally make such a purchase on eBay - but that's me. You need to ask yourself how much you're willing to risk to make that purchase. Let's assume you loose it all, is that OK with you? Good luck!

I will take your advice and sadly pass of course its not ok with me hahha but its so hard to get a 5107 in my country used i even took a plane for an hour to look at an aquanaut but we didnt agree on the price. I just ordered 2 fake pateks so i dont get buyers remorse. A calavtra and an aquanaut. I will make a vid of them on my channel when they arrive.

Not all; my 5146 is 39mm, same size as the 5227 but wears a tad bigger due to the visibility of the dial.

When I purchased my Patek's, accuracy was not something very high up on my list. To me, these are more than just 'functional' pieces, and as such I didn't mind if they ran say 2 minutes or so faster than they should. That said, I was extremely surprised to find that my 5146, when worn for four-months non-stop from the time of purchase was the most accurate mechanical watch I had owned - compared to all the Omegas and Rolexes I've had in the past. Suffice to say, this will not be an issue.

I don't think there are any, but there might be an odd reference that does. That said my recent Patek acquisition, a 5170G does have hacking seconds.

Interestingly, when I collected my 5127, I also got to try on a 5227 (in 39mm). It certainly feels like a far bolder piece, with its sharper accents on the sides of the lugs. Turning it over, and opening that half-hunter case for the first time - incredible! However, it's not entirely my cup of tea. Its dial feels massive (there's so much empty space!) as it is as big as my 5146! It will certainly interest some, but I'm happier with my 5127/5146 combo.

Hi Steven, since I made my purchase at the PP Salon, I was able to get it done on the spot. When it comes to straps, you get to see many options both in terms of colour and best fit. They make a standard length and a longer strap as well - and do their best to make sure you've got it "just right". I was given two extra straps as well, a black and tan brown.

+Tomasina Covell Hi, good point - both my PP's have the strap closing in the same direction due to the deployant clasp - If it was fitted in reverse, the Calatrava emblem would not sit in the correct spot, nor would it be as comfortable. Good eye BTW. My Rose gold AP folded in the opposite 'correct' way.

Granted, the RO is more sporty and a great 'everyday' watch. I've been wearing it for the past 2-weeks non-stop giving my PP's a rest and am loving it. Hoping to buy another RO in the future, this time a Chrono in 18k RG but on bracelet. That will really be quite something. Sure it doesn't have an 'in-house' AP movement, but the AP finished F. Piguet movement will suffice.
