Just putting more weight on the inner part of my foot when I walk is VERY helpful in getting my kneecap to do what it should. When my knees start to act up, I check my shoes and always find the heels are worn out more on the outer (lateral) edge. That shows me I've forgotten to focus on putting more weight on the medial aspect of my foot/feet. I don't try to put all my weight on the arch area, I just make a conscious effort to press more on the arch side and in a matter of days, my knee pain is gone. I was diagnosed with PFS over 20 years ago. The PT was so annoying so I was very glad when an orthopedic doctor told me this little trick of adjusting my step. Decades later, the same little trick works like a charm. If you are suffering with this condition and you too see that the heels of your shoes wear out more on the outer/lateral part, ask your doctor or PT if this is safe to try a modified step.

@@swapnamanne2698 BTW I didn't ever take medication for the PFS pain, but if I have bad knee pain I go the the DMSO & Colloidal silver group on FB and see what people are trying for joint pain. I feel like I have avoided surgery on several occasions using those remedies. I can't truly know that of course without having x-rays before and after to prove what is happening. All I can say is that a knee might hurt so badly that I can't take one step and a few hours later it can feel completely normal. If it's a coincidence or a placebo effect, that is fine with me, as long as I can walk =)

Nice tie-in to SIJ. Would you add importance of glute strength if you update this video? Yes, VMO and ITB are components to PFPS (Although Chris Powers over at USC might argue otherwise). However, lack of gluteal muscle strength also causing relative femoral internal rotation, resulting in relative lateral patellar tracking. It is not solely VMO and ITB.

As another musical theatre performer, with pfps, can tell you it sucks. (I'm also a roller derby player, but that didn't cause it, only made it hurt a lot more haha!!) I'm confused, the IT band doesn't connect to the patella. It should miss align the tibia laterally and the pressure of the knee cap would then be on the medial surface.
@haley3353 жыл бұрын
I went to the doctor like 4 years ago and he said i probably have a rare knee disease but wont be able to know unless they performed a surgery, and if i do have whatever they said i might have, they would then take it out. He also said that the surgery may or may not help. Basically thousands of $ for a 50%-50٪ of helping or not. We think he was just trying to get money. Still dont know what the pain is being caused by.

Dude, the whole vmo theory (or even it's existence as an individual muscle) has been btoadly debunked. More recent approaches focus less on the knee itself but rather on other parts of the kinetic chain (i.e. on the distal end: the ankle joint, achillea tendon length, the arch of the foot, and on the proximal end, the muscle imbalance around the thigh, usually due to glut weakness). PFPS is indeed a common problem for various populations (not just athletes). The exercises shown in the video might even exacerbate the symptoms...
