The procedurally generated people were in RDR2 already. The guy who says "shut your mouth mister" for example, is always different in a Lenny's mission cutscene. As a developer myself, I'd say that it's nothing more than just a development tool to make adding NPCs to different areas easier, maybe just somewhat sophisticated, that's all. For example, character creator in any game, pretty much is the same type of system, you can create many different variations of a character using the same base character. They just made it simpler and easier to use by minimizing the amount of tinkering down to just simple tags. It's probably just meant to speed up the process of adding some random-looking people. There's not much to it.

Without trying to sound too toxic, Rockstar are partially to blame for the desperation of the fanbase. Their secretive approach to game development is excessive. I get that revealing too much of the game before launch is not always a good thing, but would it hurt to provide the community with development updates? Fans are not owed information, but ignoring the community completely is not really the right way of going about it
@joeoloughlin224519 күн бұрын
Fair point I can see that side of it, but I think the fact that we know next to nothing and it’s all so secretive really builds excitement. The novelty would wear off and another trailer, update, screenshot wouldn’t be met with the same excitement or generate nearly as much traffic. I love the fact that they are driving us crazy, and keeping it quiet. We can never go back to this speculative, guessing, moon-watching period ever again once the marketing starts. Enjoy the ride, and hopefully see you back here next week when we’re discussing trailer 2 🙏

But I think on the flip side their secrecy, along with the intrigue and reach of this game/franchise, it has only encouraged attempted leaks and cyber attacks.

Its better to wait, not that much but if you know what you're getting, you'll pre order, if we are getting a Red Dead Redemption 2 type of game but in Vice City we know what to expect animations wise, but gameplay wise? too sus with how microtransaction design killed RDO. 😂

Different systems have different names but what I'm using is, you put your assets in a collection and then use that collection as a module and set it up as a node system. After that, there's some coding involved where you tell the system to put your assets in certain places. For example: You can set the value (percentages) of football hooligans to only show up at the stadium. Normal fans at 10%. Families at 5% (I'm American so you will know better about football hooligans). You could reverse these percentages at family outings. If you feel that there are too many football hooligans at the family outing, you could change the percentage to 1%. As far as the different body types and characters that will be populating the streets, it is Rockstar's "elaborate" character creator. The reason why I put "elaborate" in quotation marks is because, this is nothing new in game development because these systems have been around for a couple of years but actually implementing this in games is new. This is all procedural generation. You could do the same thing for clothes and buildings. That's why it sounds ridiculous that Rockstar put a patent on this because it almost sounds like they're preventing people from doing something that you could already do at home.
@youngknight558914 күн бұрын
I could be wrong but even the procedural generation element doesnt feel entirely new thars why like you im suprised if this patent got approved at the same time the office approves alot of things that shouldnt have been with software

What this system does is it goes by a set of instructions and generates the environment on its own for example: Dynamic Rules for a Nightclub Rules for the Number of People 8 PM: Moderate crowd (~50 people); most NPCs are seated or mingling. 2 AM: Large crowd (~200 people); the dance floor is full, with a mix of appearances. 5 AM: Sparse crowd (~10-15 people); most NPCs are tired, drunk and/ or loitering. Rules for the Interior of the Club 8 PM: Cleanliness: Clean, polished floors, neatly arranged furniture. Lighting: Soft and regular lighting. Music: Low-volume background lounge music. Food: Full menu available with light snacks and dinner options. Staff: 1 DJ playing mellow tracks. 2 bouncers at the entrance. 3 servers actively taking food and drink orders. 2 AM: Cleanliness: Cluttered, with spilled drinks and used napkins visible. Lighting: Intense, flashy retro lighting, neon highlights on the dance floor. Music: High-volume electronic dance music (EDM). Food: Limited menu with bar snacks like fries, sliders, and finger foods. Staff: 1 energetic DJ hyping the crowd and occasionally interacting with patrons. 4 bouncers managing a large queue outside and intervening inside as needed. 6 servers focused on drink orders and clearing tables. 5 AM: Cleanliness: Dirty, with visible trash, overturned chairs, and sticky floors. Lighting: Dim lighting, with only essential lights on for safety. Music: No music; just ambient sounds of cleaning staff and sparse conversation. Food: Kitchen closed, with only pre-packaged snacks available. Staff: No DJ. 2 bouncers wrapping up security. 1 server helping with cleanup alongside a cleaning crew. Rules for the Appearance of People 8 PM: Demographics: Casual crowd, dressed in smart-casual attire. Behavior: Socializing, seated, or lightly dancing. Appearance Mix: Balanced mix of slim, average, and attractive individuals, wearing neutral or semi-formal clothing. Styling: Subtle makeup and modest accessories for women; neat hairstyles for men. 2 AM: Demographics: Partygoers, diverse energy levels, and styles. Behavior: Intense dancing, loud talking, or occasional arguments. Appearance Mix: A varied group with slim, chubby, stylish, and casual appearances. Some patrons may appear heavily styled, with bold makeup, flashy outfits, and vibrant accessories. Styling: Neon-themed or club-inspired looks, including bold hair colors, flashy jewelry, and extravagant footwear. 5 AM: Demographics: Stragglers or staff, mostly tired and casual. Behavior: Idle, leaning on furniture, or leaving the club. Appearance Mix: A few tired NPCs with casual, disheveled clothing. Styling: Minimal effort in looks-messed-up hair, faded makeup, and casual shoes dominate. With these rules/instructions in play the system could generate an in-game night club environment similar to this: At 8 PM, the club exudes a calm and polished ambiance, with clean, polished floors and neatly arranged furniture that invites comfort and sociability. The lighting is soft and warm, creating a cozy yet sophisticated vibe. Around 50 NPCs, dressed in smart-casual attire, fill the space. Most are seated at tables or mingling in small groups, engaged in light conversation or quietly enjoying the low-volume lounge music played by a DJ stationed in the corner. Servers glide efficiently between tables, delivering orders from a full menu that includes snacks and dinner options. Two bouncers manage the light flow of arrivals, ensuring the club feels secure yet relaxed. By 2 AM, the nightclub has transformed into a high-energy hotspot. The once-clean floors are now scattered with spilled drinks and used napkins, a testament to the ongoing party. Neon-colored retro lighting pulsates in rhythm with high-volume electronic dance music, casting vibrant hues across the crowded dance floor. Approximately 200 NPCs pack the club, showcasing a mix of appearances and styles, from bold makeup and flashy outfits to casual yet energetic looks. The DJ is fully engaged with the crowd, hyping them up and keeping the energy alive. Six servers rush between tables, clearing glasses and delivering bar snacks like fries and sliders, while four bouncers manage the bustling queue outside and keep the inside in check, ensuring the revelry remains under control. As the clock strikes 5 AM, the nightclub takes on a much quieter, subdued appearance. The floors are sticky and littered with trash, and overturned chairs signal the aftermath of a long night. The lighting is dim, with only essential fixtures casting faint glows over the remaining space. The once-thriving crowd has dwindled to a sparse group of about 10-15 tired drunk NPCs, some leaning against furniture while others prepare to leave. The DJ booth is empty, with no music playing-only the faint sounds of cleaning staff and muffled conversations fill the air. The kitchen is closed, and only pre-packaged snacks are available. Two bouncers remain on duty, overseeing the final moments of the night, while one server helps with cleanup, contributing to the gradual closure of the space. The nightclub's transition across the evening reflects its dynamic evolution, creating a lifelike and immersive experience. **In the past, developers had to handle all these tasks manually, meticulously designing every detail and scripting behaviors for the nightclub environment. Now, all they need to do is input a set of rules or instructions, and the system automatically generates the nightclub environment based on those parameters. This same approach can be applied to every aspect of the game, making development more efficient and scalable.

I understand what you guys are saying and the situation your in not wanting to criticize rockstar too heavily as to not damage your relationship with them but to say the fans are being unreasonable with wanting more information is a bit ridiculous for a few reasons. One there’s been a decade plus since the last gta game and gta 5/online is a relic made for last gen hardware and is just a cash grab atp no love or care in it anymore. (Not even mentioning what they did to RDR2 online RIP 🙏🏽 ) They canceled the single player dlc THAT THEY PROMISED US so they can get more money out of us via online which is scummy and greedy and shows a lack of care in the fans time and money. They gave us a trailer a year ago and now have gone completely dark with information and expect us to not wonder or be curious as to what’s going on. ( like why give us the trailer in the first place other than to show investors that the projections for fiscal 2025 is accurate via the numbers and engagement ) Being the fans and consumers, outside of the developers who bring the game to life, we are the reason this game has reached the heights that it has and will be the reason for R.star’s success going forward. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect some small tidbit of information a screenshot, a post, an article, idk just seems like they don’t care about us until it’s time to make money.

I thought about what they said about how the player's actions could change that part of the city. I wanted to explain on a basic level how the system could generate the environment dynamically: Using this data-driven approach, the rules for environmental changes, such as increasing crime levels or improving infrastructure, are stored separately in external data blocks. These rules are not hardcoded into the game engine, allowing the system to process inputs like 'player committed a crime' and apply corresponding changes automatically. For example, the system might reference a rule or rules that increase the crime rate, reduce the population, and degrade store quality. The system reads these rules from the data blocks and translates them into actionable changes, such as adding graffiti, spawning criminal NPCs, or visually altering buildings-without requiring developers to manually redesign the area. Hope this helps...

This is great!
@rwwilson2116 күн бұрын
@@GTAVI-oclock IKR. and if you think about their new system for player/NPCs, System and method for virtual character locomotion, is very similar to this system but just for character animation. Both the environmental and character animation systems share a modular, data-driven approach that separates rules and behaviors from the core game logic, enabling dynamic and flexible updates. In both systems, external data blocks define the underlying rules-whether for environmental changes, such as increasing crime levels or improving infrastructure, or for character animations, like transitioning between gaits or responding to injury. This separation allows the systems to remain agnostic to specific use cases, ensuring scalability and adaptability without altering the core engine. Both systems dynamically respond to external stimuli; for example, the environmental system adapts virtual spaces based on player actions (e.g., committing a crime), while the animation system adjusts character movements based on state changes (e.g., carrying an object). Furthermore, they both apply procedural modifications to enhance realism, with the environmental system updating assets in the virtual world and the animation system sequencing and transitioning motions to ensure natural, fluid character behavior. These shared principles make the systems efficient and highly adaptable to their respective domains. In the character animation example, the animation system uses external data blocks and predefined rules to adjust the character's movements based on environmental and character-specific states. For instance, as the character encounters deep snow or becomes injured, the system seamlessly transitions between motion types like "normal walk," "snow walk," and "injured walk," ensuring the animations reflect the changing circumstances realistically. These transitions are driven by inputs like environmental depth and character health, which the system processes to determine the appropriate animations dynamically. Similarly, in the s example, external data blocks define rules for environmental changes, such as increased crime reducing population and degrading store quality. These rules trigger procedural updates in the virtual world, such as spawning graffiti, adding criminal NPCs, or visually altering buildings. The system processes inputs like "player committed a crime" to reference relevant rules and apply changes, adapting the environment to reflect the consequences without requiring manual redesigns by developers. Both systems share a core principle: they dynamically respond to stimuli (player actions or game conditions) by referencing external rules to produce procedural changes-be it transitioning between animation states or altering environmental elements. This modularity ensures that both systems can scale efficiently, remain adaptable to various scenarios, and enhance the game's realism by automatically reflecting the consequences of actions or conditions in their respective domains.

@@GTAVI-oclock If Rockstar is using these two systems simultaneously in the development of GTA VI, imagine how dynamic a strip club or night club could look every time the player revisits. The environmental system would apply different rules and tags to create unique scenarios. Here’s an example based on my earlier other comment, slightly adjusted: Location: Night Club (rule) Name: Midnight Pulse (rule) Day of the week: Saturday (rule) Time of day: 2 a.m. (rule) Population density: 300-600 (rule) Character characteristics: (tags) Location characteristics: (tags) Object characteristics: (tags) Food characteristics: (tags) Song genre: (tags) Using these rules and tags, the system could dynamically generate a scenario like this: The dance floor at Midnight Pulse comes alive as the clock strikes 2 AM, the energy palpable in the tightly packed space of 500 revelers. Faces reflect diverse characteristics, from angular to oval shapes, eyes glowing in hues of green, hazel, and brown under the neon lights. High cheekbones and dimples are illuminated by rotating spotlights, while tattoos and freckles add unique flair to individuals moving to the rhythm. The crowd’s outfits range from trendy neon patterns to monochromatic ensembles with bold accessories, paired with heeled boots or reflective sneakers. A fog machine hisses softly, releasing mist in sync with the DJ's bass-heavy house beats, while a disco ball spins slowly, scattering fragmented light over sticky floors. The atmosphere buzzes with celebratory energy as bartenders pour colorful liqueurs into sparkling, smudged glasses at a bar adorned with flickering neon signage. Nearby, mismatched lounge sofas sag under clusters of partygoers chatting amidst faint cigarette burns on fabric. As the music shifts to a rhythmic chillwave interlude, the dynamic crowd adjusts, some swaying while others retreat to the shadowy VIP area for a quieter moment. The new animation system will then use this environment for the NPC(s) On the blackboard, an NPC’s state might look something like this: Mood: Happy Personality: Extroverted Temperament: Optimistic Relationship status: single The system would then select motions corresponding to these characteristics to create an animation such as: A self-assured male NPC strides over to the club's bar, where a stunning female NPC sits alone, exuding an air of quiet intrigue. Flashing a charming grin, he slides onto the stool beside her and, with a playful tilt of his head...

They are very secretive, I'd love to get another trailer this year seeing as how it's been almost a year. But I something tells me we won't get anything until late spring or early summer, and if the game still is coming by fall 2025 then by that point it'll only be just a few more months to wait. If I'm wrong, I'll eat a piece of everyone's shoe in this comment section lol.

In regard to the patent portion speaking of object tags to slowly build up from poor to more luxury items: given the trailers high focus on social media, it could be a popularity thing. For instance, if you make a viral video or something similar, more people may want to come into the area,which in turn boosts the economy in that area helping restaurants and other stores to improve over time. So while you as the player do not directly make the money required for the changes, your popularity influences that area.
@AtomikZer019 күн бұрын
Regarding the patent that mentioned changing the environment, I was thinking it could either refer to GTA online or that the story could possibly have a similar time skip as Red Dead 2. I feel that the tag system patent for NPCs could play into that as well similarly, where you see the same characters years later, but now the character has the 'old' tag, and visually looks older.

Re R* trailers only showing the first hour or two of the game, that is provable nonsense. For both GTA 5 & RDR2 R* included stuff from the final missions in trailers. It’s entirely possible the Lucia scene in Trailer 1 is the very end where she says “Bad luck I guess” cut to black, roll credits. That’s unlikely, however, because R* usually relocates characters & changes costumes in the trailer, eg in GTA 5 trailer 2 Trevor’s therapist line is from the final mission but relocated from the cliff in Chumash to the FIB lot in East LS.

Hey DD and JJ it would be cool to revisit the ideas of the patent once gta 6 is released to see how they implemented it vs how you imagine it. cheers for great discussion!

I come from the future, and unfortunately, we got nothing on Friday the 29th... Now, being serious, not getting anything today really threw me off 😂. I'm really starting to think we might not get a trailer this year. I can only hope for some kind of update-maybe some screenshots-but I can't believe we might not get anything at all for an entire year, that's certainly not what I expected 12 months ago...

Rockstar is one of the few companies that I would respect to do procedurally generated content. Also knowing they would made make all the assets for story and side missions. Then use procedurally generation npcs and interiors to fill the world.

@30:00 when talking about disguises & wanted level; GTAV did have a system when robbing a store with a mask and then removing the mask would infact lower your wanted level.

There is that rumored PS showcase on the 3rd so if that does happen that day might not work unless they have a deal with Sony

If they just drop the trailer out of nowhere the entire world will shut down for 5 minutes while everyone stops working and scrambles to their PC/Phone. If anyone could pull it off, it's R*. That would be such a mic drop moment... "Yeah didn't leak this one! PEACE!"

In Fifa 11 (not sure) in player career mode you could add your real life picture unto the game and the game would made your player look like you. Never tried it though. I wonder if this will be an option in gta 6 online because in gta 5 online 90% of the players have exactly the same face.

I find it so funny how there’s people saying “gta6 will be woke”,Yeah because a woke game definitely has jiggle physics and guns/Boobs and asses on screen with pretty woman everywhere,Instantly deletes that conversation ! 😂 Not to forget that GTA is a satire of every generation and era,Todays age is VERY different,So it represents todays craziness,Also the same guys still work at Rockstar who also worked on GTA4 and Red Dead games.
@derpeth210119 күн бұрын
lmao what are you talking about? Why do you think boobs and guns are not "woke"? Completely nonsensical.

@@derpeth2101 Sure,Buts it’s a running trend that is truly pathetic,Gta fans know it’s not true,And if you heard the stuff that came out about GTA5 and Red Dead,They also were not true.Rockstar don’t fold over to the left,Many times.

@@derpeth2101yeah it is weird. Progressives are always about sexual empowerment of women and sexual representation of any group in media, now conservatives are sex positive😂😂😂 Just like the illusion that conservatives care about kids more than progressives but also conservatives are tend to be against free school lunch😅😅😅

To touch on the subject of trailers showing too much, that seems to happen a lot recently. There was a bit of controversy over Kingdom Hearts 3 when it came out because the trailers ended up giving away much of the story, along with big portions of the final act. It's easy to want more when we're in a drought, but ultimately I'd rather have this over getting too much information that could spoil my enjoyment of the game.

Gentrification is very bad, these guys talk as if its a good thing. The people who live in these bad areas dont want it to better in the way of Gentrification, because all that means is prices rise and all of the people and communities who lived in that area are forced out so that the younger generation with some money can move in.

I would be excited but I’m not a fan of companies patenting game mechanics. I know its a common practice but it makes things a-lot harder for developers to experiment and iterate. Especially with the Palworld v Nintendo lawsuit its hard for me to get excited. Also be careful what you show developers with these patents what this stuff cause that puts them at risk from what I understand
@unbearifiedbear188519 күн бұрын
You can't patent an outcome; only a process It doesn't stop others doing it, it just mean's they can't do it *the same way*
@youngknight558919 күн бұрын
@ the problem with software patents in general is the process is generic when you talk to devs in the tech field compared to copyright which protects the implementation of the process. And even if its not 1:1 that doesn’t stop companies from filing a lawsuit to scare smaller devs
