They keep talking about how often you are finding and using crafting items. I'm almost done with Act 2 on my monk, and I have gotten like... 3 of the blue to yellow crafting items? So their idea of "Finding crafting items ALL THE TIME" and "Using those crafting items WAY MORE OFTEN" is... you play the game all day, you maybe get like, 5 of them, you upgrade 5 items, they all end up sucking, and that's it, that is your loot for the day. I am also annoyed they have the balls to even CALL it crafting. You aren't crafting anything, you are upgrading by adding random modifiers to items. 'Crafting' implies you going out, gathering resources, and deciding what to turn those resources into. This is RNG Gacha BS where you are just rolling the dice until you get something good. That's not crafting. No game has ever called a system like that crafting. Stop calling it crafting. It's 'randomly upgrading'. They basically tried to reinvent the wheel here. Killing a boss or an elite, having items spill out onto the ground, and having those items have value beyond 'what they could potentially turn into if you get good rolls'... that's the whole point of loot. And they completely did away with that in favor of a completely nonsensical system nobody likes where there is absolutely 0 excitement to loot appearing when killing a boss, because it isn't meant to be good. All in all, in Diablo, a legendary drops and I go 'OOOOOH, WHAT IS IT'. In PoE2, any quality item drops and I go 'Don't care, next fight'.

In that clip of interview they mention how crafting would be incredibly important in PoE2… This is not even crafting: it’s gambling! Worse, it fuels buying currency mats on fishy websites as you can quickly buy the gear you want and move on, rather than have the most frustrating time applying orbs. SSF is simply not an option, unless you are very dedicated player. They also said the game would be more appealing to casual players, but casual players don’t want absolutely everything to be a frustrating challenge: they want to have a good distracting time and feel good about their game experience (which is not even long enough to waste time on chores). So, imagine if dying would take away 15% of their XP… oh wait… Anyhow… crafting…. Bring back the PoE1 crafting bench!

I didn't play PoE1 and haven't reached endgame yet but I liked the way crafting worked in Last Epoch. I think they could take parts from it, like being able to remove or re-roll modifiers of your choice and not have to rely on the random alteration orbs. If they felt that made it too easy perhaps these targeted alterations couldn't get perfect rolls on the modifier stats, maybe even adding a new item state like "semi-Corrupted" if they wanted more granularity with modifying items.

For mine I think the following things are needed: 1. Uniques need serious reworks - They're super rare to find and almost all of them are utterly worthless, it just feels crappy to get such awful gear when you should be happy. I've found about 20 uniques so far and only one of them I've even used. 2. Need a "precise orb" - An orb that lets you target a mod that you want to reroll would be exceptional to have. As you mentioned, boots are worthless without movement speed, to be able to reroll a less valuable mod to get that would be awesome. Same goes for wands and the like where having +skills is basically mandatory. They shouldn't be common but need this mechanism. The chance orbs are utterly useless because it's not worth risking a good mod to try and fix a bad one. 3. More of the good mods - This in general, every caster related item rolling with accuracy is so painful. Boots should have some kind of movement speed on probably 50%+ of them, not about 2% like it seems to be now. I checked the shops for boots on just about every level to level 60 and I didn't get a single rare boot with movement speed and couldn't have had more than 10 total with movement speed, the vast majority at 10% or 15% as well. 4. Class specific items - These would be super handy, they're a great way to disable certain mods on items so that you're not constantly getting worthless gear. Having them class (or even character) locked means they don't distort the trade market nearly as much. 5. Way more orbs - I've gotten half a dozen in 60 odd levels on my witch. Not sure how you're meant to craft anything at that level, basically I could have crafted 3 items total to max. The odds of getting the RNG to actually get what's needed mean I'm just hording the things as they're too precious to actually use. 6. Need more gold - Gambling is by far the best way to get items right now, at least before end game, but you get so little gold that it's not actually viable to do for more than a few items. 7. Need a much bigger inventory - Because it's so small you don't even grab half the stuff because every portal is a load screen of death potentially (I reckon it crashes 1 in 8 times), I mean it's fantasy, why work with such a tiny backpack. I'd happily pay money for a QOL upgrade on this front because that inventory is brutal. I mean Diablo 2 is 20 years old and the inventory is 5x the size... Also for the love of god, where is the auto-sort button! Definitely feels like loot is one of the biggest weaknesses. I'd say the only thing I'm finding less satisfying is the boss fights with off screen mechanics or more specifically the ultra zoomed in view you get in the boss fights so you can't actually see what's happening half the time, this compounds with all the range attacks of bosses basically being one shots so you're forced to melee range because all the melee skills are wet noodles. The movement speed is the other major flaw, I assume they're going to monetise mounts in the future or something as that's the only logical reason for making movement speed so insanely slow. I do also wish it was easier to tell what's happening on screen and to identify your minions from the mobs.

The loot progression is broken. When I am a level 45 character receiving level 16 white drops (that aren't even relevant to my class), that shows a regressive loop. Loot should always be moving forward. Perhaps rubber band it to your character level within +- 5 levels, and adjust the percentage of drops that are tied to character class. Rarity of items found may also want to be tied to character level. Crafting is pretty broken as well. I think that the rune slotting is a good base concept, but the way that it's implemented is sub-optimal. You should be able to replace or remove runes. Grim Dawn had the blacksmith who would either destroy the insertable, freeing the socket, or destroying the piece, returning the insertable. Also think that if you're going to equip rare find, that it should apply to items as well as currency. The RNG needs some definite tweaking.

I've stopped playing PoE2 once I realized unique items are shiny garbage. When Unique item drops, you should feel like you've hit the lottery. There's no such feeling in PoE2. Every item that drops is nothing special, so instead you're grinding crafting items to turn garbage stuff into usable gear. I love everything else about PoE2 (other than the loading screens), but this. This breaks the game. For a loot game to have garbage uniques... How is it those devs don't realize this? It's obviously a huge problem. And funny thing is, despite garbage uniques, PoE2 is closer to D2 than D3+D4 combined. D3+D4 are absolute garbage, not to mention the mobile one... I'm waiting for a spiritual successor to D2 for 25 years now. Still nothing... GGG used to call PoE a spiritual successor to D2, but it's not.

So why invest with rare currency in crafting for literally one mod when you have a better chance just finding it in a Magical/Uncommon?
@legalizemarinara2 күн бұрын
This is just not true as many classes want "add +x to (class applicable) skills", spirit (body armor/amulet), flat damage WITH % damage, life, resistances, rarity find %... and some builds can require life or mana on kill. % damage is not the *only* worthwhile mod. It really depends on your class.

@@legalizemarinara I think you're missing the point. The point is that there are specific stats that you want on certain pieces of gear, that if you don't get, you basically trash the item. Let's say you're a full fire build Sorc/Witch. You want to use fire staffs. If you don't get Spell Damage and Fire Damage on that staff, may as well toss it. And that's the issue with this so called 'crafting' system. You can very easily find a good weapon early on that has the stats you need, and because it has the meta stats on it, you end up using that staff for the next 30 levels and find no upgrades. And it's just not fun to not be getting new gear as you play the game.

If you want to craft the way that the director says you will have to play around with the RNG, using omens to alter the way the exalted orbs, divine orbs, or chaos orbs modify an item. For example there is an omen, that says that the next divine orb you use on an item, will only reroll the number on the lowest tier modifier. The problem is that those omens cost 7 divine orbs or more :)

@Musicankane15 сағат бұрын
I think they have three solutions to the loot problem in the game. 1, Drop rare items more regularly so people have better chances at finding starting gear that they can them slam currency into. 2. Drop Currency items far far more frequently so players are more encouraged to slam items because the risk is fairly low as you'll get more currency around the corner if an item doesn't work out. 3. Bring back the crafting bench to eliminate the gambling of slamming orbs into items only to brick them losing both valuable currency and the item. Right now the game has a problem in that the reality of how they said they wanted loot to work, and how it's actually working are completely different. It could be that this is an effect of early access and that a ton of item types simply dont exist in the game (like Swords, Daggers, etc) However more item types don't really help characters anyway and the lack of currency will still be an issue. There is also a problem of item rarity being a big issue within the game, to the point where it is basically required to get anything at all, even in mapping. So maybe the low drop rates are based around that, but then that's not a good idea and magic find as a stat should just be removed entirely because it's ineffective as a bonus stat when you make it required for any sort of loot.

@octaviousdutolan427014 сағат бұрын
The Problem with PoE2 is that it's actually a relatively good game that has horrid drop rates and also even worse tiers of items. Rare is really the best of the best? Sure, Uniques, but let's be honest. You have to do your entire build around it for it to be relevant. Otherwise when you put it on it feels way, way worse. You *should* want to use it, but if you do it feels bad. They need more tiers of equipment. They also need to make bosses relevant with loot. Sure, you can use this 'loot filter' thing I hear about so much, but then you go around picking up even less gear and equipment. Also ~ why in the 7 layers of hell is there a badly optimized trade site? Is this really the kind of game you need to use your phone or alt-tab into something entirely different in order to play? Because good luck getting any kind of progression or power bumps on your own. If you insist on gambling (lets be honest, random buffs that can brick a good item is exactly gambling), at least let people use a buyer's remorse 'currency' to undo that stupid thing that the game put on it. Also ~ The idea that crafting mats are currency is emblematic of how bad the game design actually is. It's showing its roots of being a windows flash game that was a badly written mod of Diablo 2 again. If you group up you get punished more often than not, but you have to in order to really push endgame to get the better magic find. You need it on all of your gear to consistently get items. If you're lucky or have a few good drops, just derp with the trade site and get items that're actually useful. Make you wonder why anyone ever bothers not using it, trying to go it alone and struggle. There is a lot they need to fix and balance with the game. Some random who used real money to buy orbs or got lucky getting an item to get good gear should not have so much of an easier time playing/enjoying themselves. That's how craptastic the design is, it's that impactful. Look no further than the 'dark souls like' tag on steam. People are so clueless about progression/trade/all the bias of the poe1 player base that they think the game is supposed to be dying 100 times to the boss until you skill your way through it. Whereas Rando McPay-to-Win goes in and melts the thing so fast it doesnt even get other phases. That's how dog barf the optimization is. I genuinely do wish the game was better. They've got a huge boost of players right now, people who like/enjoy the game, but also those people only have so much patience. I know, the game isnt "made" for them, it's made for the whales who spend hundreds and hundreds on their free to play gambling app. They profit from selling those premium stashes so people can post on the site, after all. PoE made good money going from a homebrew mod version of diablo into PoE 2 which is pretty close I think to the kind of game they've always wanted to have. It lets them get away from the awkward habits and inclusions of the past, going for easier, more streamlined things. I dont mind grinding, but when I'm stuck at a boss and spend several hours repeatedly doing the same area to clear and maybe get a chest out of it.... and then almost nothing drops, even with Magic Find (that's relevant to the character I'm playing)....... it seems excessively brutal. You can either have more game, or make the game you have harder/less optimized so it seems more. I get it, the game is only half done (if that), and people need to be patient. But, look at Valheim, and also No Man's Sky, and other gams. Their early access launch determined and still impacts them greatly to this day. Maybe a much bigger player base is actually bad for PoE 2...? If there's more mats/currency floating around, things will be more expensive. You need like a ton of the base item to legit gamble on to try to get good perks out of one of them, and then you either use it or probably sell it. Player driven economy is good and all, but like maybe a vendor that pops up randomly who only sells white items of a certain type, vanishes after X seconds or after you talk to them once? Sure, veteran players are happy the new people are getting aggro and grumpy about the game. However, it'd behoove them to try to hold the hands of new people and get them to see the game how they do. Otherwise, the devs might genuinely want to make quick, sweeping changes to keep access to that much larger player base, eager to convert them into pay piglets just as those same veterans are "Ever so happy to support" their 'free' game with hundreds in microtransactions. The veterans need to realize if they get the noobs on their side, there is an even larger pool of money thrown to "Support the Devs" and content will come out faster and be even better. If you got to here, congratz!

Now suddenly, people can craft like crazy, have fun during campaign and once you enter maps you start finding the actual gear. Now they can even bring back the loot beetle and stuff because it will no longer inflate the market

I'm still early, at the end of Act 2 as a monk. I'm hoping endgame would be better but as it stands now, finding a good base for an item is hard enough, and I mean one that's tailored to my playstyle and build. Getting the orbs is also tough enough. Putting those orbs and hoping it would turn out to have at least T2 modifiers that synergize with my build is even tougher. What's even harder to swallow is when you've had a set of good modifiers on an item, and then you slap on some more orbs and got a modifier that adds "light radius" or "rarity find" I can't re-roll a specific modifier like in Last Epoch. or maybe idk how to do it yet
@mattb664623 сағат бұрын
No you can't change an item once it's rolled. You can use an orb of chaos but it will rerolled a random modifier exposing you to another rng layer, in which you'll likely rerolled one of the mods you actually need. Poe had a great crafting system, and they butchered it for some reason in poe2.

New Item currency that functions like Incubators. Once applied the item is no longer tradable. Wearing and killing enemy's with the item will apply new modified to the item for free until the item has no free slots left after that it will ungraded the quality and then add sockets. The intention is these work like Alchemy's but can be applied to any gear you want to upgrade that your already happy with but dont want to exalt. The item taking investment and becoming trade bricked ensures its value stay under an exalts keeping its drop rate slightly higher then them.

SSF tip: target Expedition in maps. It's not as deep as the POE1 system; but, you can still 'craft' solid upgrades, and then use currency to further enhance if required. I'm SSF, lvl 80, full res cap, with a 400pdps crossbow. It's very doable.
@AndragonLea21 сағат бұрын
If they wanted us to constantly improve our gear, currency orbs would have to drop constantly. That just seems reasonable. You can't use what you don't have. Maybe the more important thing would be that the RIGHT currency be dropping constantly. For example: runes drop like candy, but they're absolutely worthless. You only need 1 or 2 per item and you find upgrades so rarely that you have dozens if not hundreds in stock by the time you need just one. Not only that but they're of such low modifier magnitude that they're a waste to use on actual end game gear. If you put a flat mana or life rune on an item, you're objectively bricking it. You're better off looking for items with native resists because those can go beyond 40 and using that rune slot for a soul core. Divines drop very rarely in maps for me (I found one three days ago, I'm mapping and I have like 80 % increased rarity running magic tier 10 to 12), but that's fine because it's not the more important item for upgrades. What's more important than having items roll high is having items roll the right modifiers at the right tiers. Right now I pick up every piece of gear that has ES only and I haven't actually FOUND an item better than what I have since the day I reached map. Every marginal upgrade I have is from trade. Items either roll the wrong modifier or roll them at tiers so low that they're simply worse than items with 2 or even 3 useless modifiers on them. There's nothing you can do about that because no currency exists to modify this. You just have to keep picking stuff up - which is intensely frustrating when you're literally wasting currency you could be accumulating for trade to modify gear that then gets recycled for a shard or a handful of coins. At this point, crafting feels like a literal waste if you're not playing SSF. Every exalt you slam on an item could've gone towards something that's a guaranteed upgrade. It actually feels bad to craft. I feel like I'm wasting my time and resources when I should be excited.

I love the idea of bringing back tiered essences and making them more common. I think 3 affix rares are a great idea, since they're so cheap and you can roll a dozen without breaking a sweat but if that's the case we need a dedicated white item shop. Scrounging for wands that are the right kind is brutal, and once you get 2 mods, if they aren't good you're better off selling it than trying to annul it bc ooa are so expensive. Idk as it stands the crafting system just isn't working and I ended up buying my gear which is frustrating

Good luck replacing that without trading and even these items are worth in the divines already when I can't even drop one divine at level 80 with 140% item rarity on rare maps... I would love to find a replacement other then trading but crafting such a thing is gonna be a story of Rng, slamming a ton of currencies, grinding more currencies & slamming more currencies on an item to find a good base only to have higher tier of modifiers. Heh and that is IF I could drop some currencies others then hammers, bows & crossbows on a mage character. PS : GGG Bring back orb of regret. I am tired of grinding for another good white/base because the one I just crafted is terrible on everything. The real problem is that there is no "crafting" in PoE. Instead, you're pulling the slot machine lever 8 or 9 consecutive times per item - and if you don't "win" all those pulls, then RNGesus has bricked it and you gotta start all over. It's a massive gamble-a-thon that would put a lot of mobile gacha games to shame, and it's very frustrating. Playing solo self found gives you such WILD difficulty spikes because you often won't find a single upgrade to ANY SLOT for 20+ character levels at a time. There IS NO GEAR PROGRESSION AT ALL after mid-to-late Act I. We're talking getting one new usable item - one SINGLE item - every Act, Act and a Half, IF YOU'RE LUCKY. The only reason I was able to beat Act III at all SSF was because I finally threw my hands up in the air and wasted a half-dozen Regals and about 10 Exalts getting my shit-ass drops up to par so my Resists were high enough to trivialize the Act III Boss (He went from one-shotting me to me one-shotting *him* after raising my resists from 40% to 70%). Right now, the whole game is being carried by the moment-to-moment gameplay - which is fine in the short term, but will NOT keep people engaged long-term.

some stuff need a slight buff, that I can agree on. But my main problem is the punishment when you slam something bad onto what you thought could be an upgrade, in poe 1 we could get items into "safe states" were we could determinately revert it to a usable state, This was not the case for all items but having some control over the crafting may result in players getting better items but it also lessens the bad feeling of getting bad stats on a good item.
@MrMokey2418 сағат бұрын
Blue items should have 3 mods. That would make progression much smoother. They could make orbs of augmentation more rare to compensate for player power. Remove item rarity from the game. At least it should not be a mod on gear. Make waystones less variable in rewards by removing item rarity and quantity from them as a mod, as well as waystone drop chance. The mods that make the waystone more difficult should be tuned down and increase the item quantity only. All of this means there will be way less rare loot on the ground, making crafting more rewarding. Picking up white items of a base you want for your build is going to be the way you craft a good magic items with 3 mods, then upgrade to a rare and hope for some good supplementary stats.

I want Last Epoch-like crafting. It’s a good mix of deterministic and RNG.

If you aren't in SSF you can buy one for 37 exalts and you can also buy a perfect jewellers orb for 3 divs 😂

My experience with PoE 2 shows that drop and crafting system is balanced around blue items and when you transition to rare items, then everything start to fall apart. First of all we get quantity over quality issue starting around act 3 where there is a lot of items on the ground, but 90% of them are useless. Exalted/chaos orbs should be as expendable as transmutes/augmentations to make crafting be able to outweight item trading. Ideally you would want to trade only for really specific items.

So the issue you're talking about is making crafting more or equally alluring as trading? That would be tremendously difficult. It would require an account bound system that allows you some limited but extremely powerful crafting, that once it's been done the item is bound to your account as well. But this goes against the philosophy of the game. The only instance I've found that makes crafting better than trading is that the item you're trying to make is so tailored to your build that you literally cannot find it in the market, and you're forced to craft it yourself. But that is a very rare phenomenon usually happening to those far into endgame. I guess an account bound system like maven invitations that allowed for crafting, even if the item was then tradable would help a lot though. The game would benefit greatly from a little bit of deterministic crafting, like the crafting bench +1 mod. It would ensure that a leveling character has a minimum power level which would make it much easier to balance the content. Atm people are forced to surrender to their luck, and quite a few unlucky folk that don't get a good weapon drop end up suffering through painfully slow bossfights. While at the same time lucky folk like me in act 5 or my friend in act 3, get a tremendously strong weapon and blast through the content and trivializing it completely. Either of those extremes are no good.

I'm SSF Grenade/Exp Shot Merc in early act 3. I found a crossbow with +3 to all Skills at level 20 and am still using it at level 39. I have zero exalts in stash because I have used every one I've found trying to find that +3 again for an upgrade. I have +20 movement speed boots and wear them rather than ones with better(barely) stats because that's (stupidly) more important to me. I stay right around 30k gold because that's the base I chose to not go below while I vendor gamble. I make sure I'm several levels above map mob level before I go to the next area. I think I'm doing Ok, I just killed the Chimera on my first try but have to go back to the fire witch when I get resists up to snuff. I feel like it's all held together with duct tape and baling twine but I'm fine. Everything is fine. (help!)

I do not agree. I spent like 160 hours in PoE 2 now, and I do not want more maths to drop. In the campaign most of the gear I had was either found or crafted. For me orbs were common enough to drop them on the items that I was sure that I wanted them to use on, and rare enough to not throw them on almost every good base. And by the end on cruel I started to go into trade to look for better items/bases but still I was using orbs on them. And I like that so much more than how it was in PoE1.

Thanks for your opinion & being respectful. Could you elaborate on what you like about that more than in PoE1? I don't quite understand
@azjarosz18 сағат бұрын
@@LastProtagonist Sure! In PoE 1 at some point you have so many orbs, that you can just spam any items with it. You don't feel value of them (well maybe exalts), but chaoses? You have them a ton. In PoE 2 I feel like you have just enough, to craft something useful, but not with high rolls. And IMHO that is good! I feel like campaign should be place, where you craft some items, but nothing higher than tier 3-4 rolls. Higher rolls should start on early endgame. I am rather fan of slow progress with unique being truly unique, and some of the content (like higher maps) should be available only for true hardcore players (which I am not), and I do not have a problem with some content being not something that I can reach. In my opinion endgame is too soon in most games. And by endgame I mean endgame content, like maps, but as well high value maths, and items with higher rolls. Like e.g. links on the object. IMHO 6 links should be something that you can get when you are around 90 lvl, 5 link around 80, 4 links around 65 etc. In PoE 1 it was way, way too easy to get 6 links.
