Awesome guide and I appreciate you taking the time to make it. Personally, I'd rather watch one 1-hour long guide video than 10+ 5min videos bouncing from person to person who might have different advice or guides to choose from. I think you did a good job of eliminating the "99%" for new players and explaining the main things. Maybe you could make a series of guides based on that idea of what % of the game you're diving into and what type of player might benefit from what % of the game being explained. Overall great stuff-thanks a lot!

Honestly, this guide has really helped me a lot. I just hit Act 6 and am dying instantly, now I know why due to the resistances. It also showed me that the character I created was in the standard league, not in the affliction league, so everything I have done was for nought, but that is okay, it has given me a great base knowledge to push forward with it. I would love a little more in depth, at some point, on trading and maxing currencies, but you have provided an AMAZING start to the process. I have watched your content for a long time now, from D3 through where we are in D4 and now with POE. God tier content, my friend. Your passion and care for the community and making the game better for everyone, and way less confusing, is a godsend to many players that would otherwise give up. Being in Standard is fine. The only real difference is the trade economy. Standard has a lot of gazillionaires who already own everything, so the prices for items are weird. If you join the league (Affliciton right now) the price of an item is close to the item's rarity. If you're playing SSF (so you can't trade) then it doesn't really matter.

As a poe player i can say, this is a great guide. Just one thing: in the lab trial (your class ascension thingy), click the altar in the last room in the north-west corner. that's what's actually giving you the special class points. i just left without doing that on my first character and was really confused...and then had to do the lab again and also (this is only relevant for a small amount of people): if you are someone who really likes to learn and tackle challenges, maybe NOT following a guide could actually be way more fun for you. i tried to get into this game like 4 times while following a guide and always was really bored and quit in like act 2/3. doing it my own way and making my own trash build, that couldn't get past white maps, was actually more fun and made the game click for me. but again, this is probably not the case for most people

Agree with some people trying to make their own character first. Especially if you have a bit of experience with other ARPGs. This is what I did too…the character ended up pretty bad but I still made it to the red (hardest) maps before giving up. I’m now following a guide for my 2nd character, but just doing it myself the first time was enough to get me excited about the game.

Yeah, I've never just taken someone else's build and followed it. I'll take tips and pointers I pick up on reddit or from watching a few streamers, but I never log in day one and say, "tell me how to play". It's play. I'll figure things out. The constant refrain of "you must follow a guide" can be just as much of a turn off. I wish more people would caveat "follow a guide" with "but any broken build can finish the campaign".

First time I started out with my own build (dual strike raider, very spicy) and made it to act 6 before quitting, it did great up until act 5 but then I constantly kept dying to one-shots. I tried another character and that one somehow did worse, constantly kept dying in act3-4. I decided, screw it, let's go hardcore and really try to make careful decisions. I made it to act 8 doedre on first try, did not know about the wheel mechanic and was slowed down by probably max amount of temp stacks. Several hardcore characters and years later I've finally learned how to make good builds and that experience has definitely been slow and painful, but so damn rewarding!

@@DrDanQ92 honestly, that experience is most of the fun for me. i'm still not great at making my own builds, but every time i look at a guide for a 100m dps tanky god, i just think "where's the fun here?". the game is already solved, you just tag along. trying new stuff and failing is far more enjoyable to me. and sure sometimes by pure luck i can also maybe design something that's not complete garbage. but that experience then is even more rewarding to me, because i myself figured it out

Helpful video for sure, think I'll give POE another shot now that I have a better understanding of some of the systems, etc. (thank you for that!) As far as some specific feedback: - Would have liked an explanation of what the SSF and Ruthless modes are - Side-note: As far as Ruthless, I gave it a shot as a newer player cuz I heard it was a better experience as a new player, and I actually thought it was more enjoyable (At least for the portion of campaign I got through) - Not sure if you said this and I missed it, or if its so intuitive it wasn't worth mentioning, but a short explanation about how you obtain maps would be nice - One of the biggest turn-offs is the fact that re-specing when you mess up your passive tree or want to try another build seem impossible as a new player, would be nice to get your perspective on that, and know if there is a way to do it without just re-rolling a new character - Your explanation about Trials of Ascendancy was super helpful; something I never fully understood until you broke it down - The flow of this guide was great, especially the callbacks to the points you made earlier on, later in the video

This guide is amazing. Great work Raxx. This definitely helps bridge the gap between absolute newbie and the other PoE content that already exists. I spent about 50 hours watching other PoE videos (many that said they were for beginners) before trying PoE, and I think you hit more of what I actually needed in this one hour than I got in all that. I am sure a lot of what I learned in those other videos will eventually be helpful, but its not what I needed in my first hours of playtime. This perfectly hits that mark. So glad you included the "how to get wisdom scrolls". That seems like one of the holes in a lot of the other guides, I think so many of those are assuming you are speedrunning the campaign so the need for the scrolls is so much lower. Also for any newbies out there, you can also trade in Portal Scrolls for Wisdom scrolls. I find this really helpful as with the logout trick, you really only need to keep like 10 portal scrolls to be good, so you can trade in extras you get for more Wisdoms. Also, you just saved my butt on the red maps. I just got to tier 10 maps at the end of my run last night, so would be going into red maps soon. I had NO IDEA about the needing to upgrade the maps to get credit. Luckily, I had been Alch'ing my maps already just to get better loot, but I had no idea I needed to do that. And I would not have even considered using a vaal orb on the map had you not mentioned it. As for ideas for other newbie content, one thing that seemed kind of fuzzy when I started is just what is going on with all the currency. You mentioned currency a few times, and did clarify that Chaos and Divines are the most important currency. A 5-10 minute "Dude, where's my gold?" video would probably help some folks. Just a quick explainer that PoE doesn't use gold like you might expect coming from a Diablo game, and instead has a ton of different items that each have their own little power that changes items when you spend it. Then explain how this ensures that your currency actually remains valuable compared to what you generally experience in a Diablo game where gold matters for a short while and then is just ridiculously abundant, PoE currency is always making your character better. Then maybe a quick show of the "currency vendor" that you can use to upgrade your currency, mentioning that its not always as good of a rate you might get actually trading it to another player, but when you need a specific thing in a pinch like more fusings you can get them this way.

Played this game very casually since 2013 and this is one of the best guides I’ve ever viewed and I don’t mean just for video games. I’ve never even ventured into trading until this necropolis season and your guide makes it very simple. Thank you!

Hi Rax, started playing POE because of this guide. Without it I wouldn't have tried. Great beginners intro 👍

I tried other beginner guides to learn this game but most of the time I just did not understand what they were talking about. I finished the campaign with a league starter guide and found your video when just started doing maps and to be honest this is the best beginner guide that I have watched. You are great at explaining things simply. Thanks for the guide.

Great vid. but also 1 extra tip to you forgot to mention, Attrbutes like Dex, Int and Strength are also important whilst leveling and in the endgame in order to equip the gems that you need for your guide on top of the Resistences and Life. For stats on gear the priority should be Resistence > Attributes > Life

Great guide, played PoE a few times and never got out of act 3. This time I have a real shot and will be rewatching this guide to make sure I can remember everything you spoke on. This was a good insight based on another relatively new players experience. The ogz don’t have beginner friendly content and this has made my journey 10x easier than I imagined.

Very good beginner's guide.: 1. Good job focusing on the necessary aspects for new players with a fresh character. 2. Guide has enough detail to get playing but does not force the 'must do step by step' philosophy. Play the game and have fun. 3. I jumped in blind and gave up at level 8. This guide convinced me to give POE a second try. Summary: Solid guide. Good introduction to POE that helps noobs like me figure out what the hell to do. Keep up the good work.

Why does this guy only have 319k subs? He should be around 5-10 mil subs. I've been searching for a guide and this is the only video that makes any sense to me. Thank you for taking the time and make a video like this. I'm still downloading the game and can't wait to play.

I used to play a lot of POE, but haven’t played for more than a year. I accidentally saw your video in my KZbin recommended list. I watched it as I thought it gonna be a good refresher before the next league. This video was great. I actually learned a lot of new stuff and also how to do things better that I was doing less optimal. Thanks for the video.

This is exactly the kind of video new players need to get into the game and start progressing. A lot of other content creators for PoE are so advanced the things they talk about or don't mention in guides will basically be another language for a new player.

I am one of those ppl who always wants to try poe but I never start because it seems way too difficult. I did not think that I would watch through a 1h video but this actually made me want to go and login to try it out. Thank you for this. If the guides were more digestable like this one, I might have already tried the game. Subscribing

Started streaming this and attempted to allow my community to teach me how to play. While I love their engagement, this tutorial has streamlined the info well for me to feel more comfortable getting started. Only thing missing from this guide imo would be basic callouts like how act 5 completion lowers your overall resistances by a lot. This would prep beginners (like myself) for the horror of seeing the resources you invested in throughout Part 1 feel like they went down the drain. Liked that you covered how some guides you will die a lot if using them. Just cause they are top guides doesn’t mean they are not glass cannons. Well made guide and looking forward to more!

Great summary for beginners. Anyone wanting to play PoE, I have a few hundred hours and still have no idea what some things are, how much things are worth, and still check out guides. Don't try to go in blind on your first run, or even first few because it can end up being a nightmare. Raxx you did a great job explaining in a way most PoE creators don't usually do for new players

Amazing guide! I've been waiting for a beginner guide that isn't 3 hours long explaining endgame concepts in the first 5 minutes when I cant even get through act 1. Thanks for explaining how the levelling guide works and it's great that it tells you where in the campaign you get the gems you need, makes it very easy. I will certainly give this game a real try now.

I played this game for a year, and my laptop blue screened. It was 2 years before I had another laptop to play it on, and the thought of how much there is in this game, was more than I wanted to do. I learned so much from this video....I am like a noob all over again. I learned things I never knew, and some really good tips. Thanks Raxx PS now that you are playing a new game, maybe you should toss the hoodie, and come up with a new look, for the new you. Maybe a cowboy hat, or a slouch hat, LOL. I am blown away at how fast you learned so much in this game.

This is a great guide, thank you) the one thing I had to add is you don't need scouring your map to reroll the modifiers - just use an alteration orb on it)) scouring orbs are quite rare in the beginning and mostly valuable for replacing crafted affixes on gear)

Please keep making more beginnerish guides - itemization, how to approach crafting, more on trading, approaching the endgame. So I warched this guide from start to finish while making anew char. Thank you for your hard work Raxx. Your dry sense of humor is so funny as well, which is a bonus: "look a the map the way it starts, that's confusing, I have no idea where to go now"

Incredible guide, probably the best I've found so far. Tried getting into PoE a few years back during the Bestiary league and just couldn't get past the initial wall after watching an entire playlist worth of guides. Your video condenses the essential info to get the ball rolling and enjoying the game, which is the nº1 thing a new PoE player seems to need. Currently waiting for the Necropolis league to drop so that I can roll a brand new char and dive into it, so I'm just watching some more videos in the meantime to get ready. Great work!

I just started playing POE because the new trailer for Settlers of Kalguur got me excited to play, this game has a looottt to it and I've looked through tons of youtube videos to try and figure things out, and I just wanted to say that although this video was intimidating (1h long) I found it to be very helpful and one of the best beginner tutorials I've found, I just wanted to say thank you for taking your time to make it. I got so confused trying to figure this game out, things like "League starter", "Mapping", etc and all other kinds of "POE Jargon" gets thrown around, for a new player that just runs around and clicks things, it's confusing at best when people use those terms, but your video went into enough detail that by the end of it I feel very confident playing this game.

Played PoE back in its beta (with leagues lasting a few hours etc), and after that tried to pick it up at 2-3 league starts in the past 7-8 years. This is the best begginers guide i have seen posted an made me want to play the game again. Thx Raxx!

A month ago I watched this video for the first 5 minutes where you talked about SRS. I have wanted to play PoE 'again' for the past 10 years. Now I did. Have been having a blast going through full atlas, almost all the bosses (ubers left cause farming fragments takes a while). Heists+Delve+Maps+Affliction stuff+Expeditions and more, I have enjoyed it all. And best part is, because I've not gotten into the 'juicing' I can expect similar results going forward. Thanks for this video and all the other content, looking forward for Last Epoc endevours for the next couple weeks, will be fun!

So, I'm not at all a beginner, but I still watched all of it, because I have wanted to find a comprehensive beginners guide that I can link to people that want to start the game. And this is it. It might not be perfect (could be more concise), but it is definitly the best one I have seen so far. Usually I tell people to hop on to discord, start up the game and start playing. Then if they have a question I can answer it and that way they can explore the game at their own pace. I always recommend to follow a guide, but most people are hesitant, because you only get one first time of playing the game. And I think thats a valid opinion. I try to guide their decision making a little but mostly by the time they reach act 6 and get access to skill gems from lily they agree to start following a guide and I help them respec. Then it is extra helpful if they focused their gear on life and res, so they can keep using it if they decide to switch. Well with this video I hope to be doing less salvaging of messed up builds while convincing more people to stick to PoE for longer than just the campaign. Thanks so much :)

Great guide for anyone curious about the game! I have over 1k hours in PoE but still watch new beginners guides for it in case I missed something, or to find some new tips and tricks to try out. If you feel like making more - a beginners crafting guide would be great for a lot of new players imo. Not going too deep into the weeds, but the basics can be helpful to many. Thanks for great content.
