Just based off the way you explained it (I don’t full understand) I don’t see a problem with embedding a gaming stream on a popular gaming website that they own - if people are visiting your website and they see your stream, they are watching / listening to it while they browse other things - which many viewers do on twitch anyways, ie: people play games with a stream on in the background or browse other tabs and just listen. I definitely agree it’s a problem defrauding advertisers/sponsors saying we have X amount of twitch viewers so sponsorship costs $X, (because a major proportion of viewers aren’t twitch users choosing to tune into the stream), but I don’t think it should be a problem on twitch’s side where they disallow embedding on external websites. Twitch could easily use cookies to tell which viewers are on the platform vs embedded viewers and just separate those numbers on the twitch viewer count while still allowing embedding, because it’s extra exposure via a legitimate external website with real users. As long as the twitch viewer count is shown accurately based on twitch platform users that should be fine and it also solves the issue with advertising.
@miguellopez33923 сағат бұрын
The problem is twitch allowed his because it made them more money at the cost of front page content quality, its not a hard thing to figure out, no one goes to the website to watch the stream on the background, they would go to twitch for that.

mainstream game review companies like kotaku etc arent the best source for reviews because 9 times out of 10 the ones reviewing the games don't have a vested interest in playing a game when it is released. The best source of finding out if a game is good is not to ask a review company but an ACTUAL GAMER/S or alternatively something similar to trustpilot which gamers give their own review info to... Legacy Media had the same 8 hours of access that all the streamers had at that LA event. GGG didn't need to give them special access as 8 hours should have been more than enough time to make a review of a beta product (an actual beta). I'd love to see GGG come back and say "Hey guys legacy media needs days or weeks with a game to make a review unlike streamers who get it done at an 8hr event, so that's why we made a special 'games journalist' server for them before release." 🤣

I made game guides in high school. When the internet rolled around, I was stoked about making game guide sites. It didn't matter what game I decided to tackle, even before release, companies had full walkthroughs, all the secrets, screen captures, and codes. It was hilarious, and completely impossible to compete with . :)

I think it has to be pointed that it's still impossible to beat wikidot in obnoxiousness. They're abusing their domain for SEO. If anything, no matter how bad it is, has a wikidot, it will show up at the top, NO MATTER WHAT. On top of that they a history of refusing to cooperate when a community tries to establish an official wiki and replacing entire wikis with an ad. If wikidot shows up in any case, please take a few seconds to look for an official or alternative wiki.

Reading the statement from GGG, it says there was miscommunication. As much as I don’t like or care for Fextralife. What are the chances they were also not told about the guide thing? I feel being told not to post content until release is just as important as not making guides for the game before release. Also in the statement they don’t explicitly say it was ONLY the embargo that was miscommunicated
@rb987694 сағат бұрын
The guide thing was a huge misunderstanding on part of the community. Fextra did not post that guide, and the guide was some random contribution to the wiki by some user who used content of another creator who published a 2 hour playthrough from the early access event. People saw that there was content about bosses on the guide and immediately assumed it was NDA content, but it's publicly available. It's impossible to get this information through reddit's head because any unpopular opinion there is downvoted to oblivion. Fextralife people barely contribute to their own wikis themselves. They have random users do it for them.

Embargo is just a NDA saying "you cannot post this until x date" or "you are only limited to post his until x date" Basically, it's NDA for anti leak. Learned this from Running Man when a cast posted a photo of shoot that would be aired the next month (They do shoot now but can only post about it after the episode aired) and got scolded for it.

@JustSomeGuy0092 сағат бұрын
Just a contrarian argument. If GGG didn't communicate properly to Fextralife about 1 thing they probably didn't regarding the producing of guide content. If that is the case they might have already put together the guide and scheduled it to go up on the site. When the communication then occurred from GGG they would move to remove the guides. However once something gets put up on a public website it will be cached and indexed within hours. Trying to remove it after the fact can't really be done by just clicking delete and have it happen immediately or completely. Properly putting content on the internet doesn't really allow that as you have lots of caching layers (local server caching, CDN's, 3rd parties caching your site, browser caching, etc).
@muccafamumu4 сағат бұрын
I can understand streamers hating fextralife, but as a non streamers I don't give a damn that they were view botting. Their wikies are often good (elden ring, lies of p, etc). About the NDA: dick move, but let's be honest, it just means they may not receive early copies anymore. As a player, you shouldn't care about that.
@kellpt3 сағат бұрын
In terms of the english language, "to produce" something may be interpreted not from a standpoint of "production, manufacturing, etc", but instead as "to make something available", such as in "produce your ID documents" - which in this context would be synonim to publishing. So it's not really worth going there to parse the words, because regardless of how you interpret it (production, publishing) they did it anyway.
@WotsOnSecond25 сағат бұрын
Review copies shouldn't exist. Especially for GGG who always says they like seasonal content because of everyone starting on an even playing field. Meanwhile, they're selling early access and giving streamers and reviewers insider information.

He pushes down legitimate streamers by viewbotting. Also advertisers who pay him don't get their sponsorships seen, so that effectively makes advertisers pay less, which effects all streamers. Asmon explains this very clearly, so why'd you ask? The problem wasn't their wiki, it was how they were using Twitch... basically every viewer on their wiki, would count as a Twitch viewer on their stream.
