yes, very useful, the ability to basically 5 foot step more than 5 foot is really usefull (using withdraw action of course) it can let you out of very dangerous situation

It's just a worse version of the Teleportation subschool's level 1 ability tbh, that one is a swift action

@@FrenchLightningJohn How is Dimension Slide not a teleport you can do as a move action? Swift action teleporting to get out of threatened square and then taking a normal move action to get further away lets you get away from melee enemies from level one, that's extremely useful in combat.

Theruge is a good Exploit. It allows you to gain the first level ability of a Cleirc domain. So you can have a cleirc domain on top of your sorcerer bloodline, on top of your wizard school, and all of your other exploits. Very fun and very unique

I hear Samsaran is a good race for Arcanist not only because they have good stats but because they have that past life racial trait that allows you to pick spells from another class, but only one. So imagine an Arcanist with hexes from his past life as a Witch.

I'm currently playing an Magaambyan Initiate Arcanist. It's so good. With the druid spells thrown in, I have an answer for any situation even more than a wizard could. And with Dimensional Slide, I can be anywhere on the map pretty much in an instant.

The feat that expands your pool also gives you a perminant extra 3 at the begining of each day don't forget that as well so that same elf should have started with 8 not 5 with that max of 16

I frustrated my DM SOOO BADLY when I prevented his Rakshasa from going invisible, hiding in mist, or dimension door-ing away with that. All while still being a fully-functional caster in battle myself.

I'm really disappointed that he left out my two favorite exploits of Dimensional Slide and Quick Study. Dimensional Slide is a nearly unparalleled repositioning option since it can be used as part of your move action, meaning it doesn't require your precious standard action like things like Dimension Door does, and also prevents you taking AOOs, thus allowing you to effectively Withdraw for a move action. Also has great advantages outside of combat like getting across difficult terrain like chasms, up cliffs, and I believe even through windows or bars since you need line of sight but not line of effect (I think, could be wrong on this point). Quick Study meanwhile might be the most powerful ability in the game, as it effectively turns you from 'prepare like a wizard and cast like a sorcerer' to 'you're a sorcerer but the entire wizard spell list is your known spells'. It is somewhat pricey in that you have to use a full round action (along with the pool point), but that means very little when it allows you to have access to the full range of wizard utility spells outside of combat, and access to -just- the right spell in combat if you are willing to sacrifice a turn to get it. Personally those are the first two abilities I nearly always get with Arcanist because they're just so very useful regardless of anything else you plan on doing with the character. That said, I may have to go back and look at that option that might get you access to the wizard schools for those lovely stat bonuses. I understand him leaving out the advanced exploits though. Might make for an interesting followup video. Edit: My disappointment aside, I always enjoy listening to d6's take on things and these videos he puts out. Keep up the good work.

You might want to read up on the Elf's favourite class bonus again. It's utterly useless as it only raises the maximum. Always take hitpoints as Elf (which is still arguably the best race for the Arcanist).

Seems like he wasted a lot of time on low tier exploits. The attack exploits are just bad and not much more needed to be said about them. Dimensional Slide and Quick Study are the best. Once you get a glove of storing, quick study is just too convenient.

I hate arcanist so much I made one with 12 inteligence all in cha and rely solely on arcanist exploit to deal dmg. and I was still top dps. the worst part is it was the most viable build I've made unironicly

The Arcanist is the best arcane spellcaster class hand down. I wish Arcanist was just baseline and the Wizard was removed, as heretical as that is for me to say. Specifically for 1e, I also wish they had done more to develop the various archtypes.

DPS exploits = trash. Charisma its dump abbilities. U can use 12d6+15 with scorching ray at 7 lvl(if u want be blaster), why u want use 3d6+2 with exploits?

Personally, I find the Arcanist to be overall worse than the Wizard and Sorcerer. Sorc gets the bloodline abilities and more spells to choose from in a day, and Wizard prepares more spells and can take the good Arcanist Exploits as their 5/10/15/20 bonus feats instead of metamagic/crafting. It's a hybrid class with not quite enough of the things that make both it's parent classes good.

now that i understand it, it sounds like a bag of underpowered crap. sack 1 point to add 1 point/save somewhere else for 1 round. On top of the upkeep and tracking of the gain, loss, and many tiny rules for the arcane pool. you have access to the wizards range of spells, but FAR LESS casting amount of the wizard and the sorc. It sounds like someone nerfed and bastardized the 3.5 warlock and smashed a wizard into it, maybe at lvl 15+ you'll have the slots and feats needed to get it off the ground, but this is not superior to any other caster class.
