Commenting on this ancient video to say that, whether it's a surprise round or not, you are flat footed in combat until you make your first action after initiative
@steelixian17056 жыл бұрын
I’ve just started GMing after a very long time this video was so helpful especially with the refreshing of terminology. I noted down everything you said for other people to use as well Pathfinder Combat Standard action Move action Swift action Drawing your Weapon uses up your move action. And also provokes attacks of opportunity Attacks of Opportunity- Most commonly provoked by moving out of range of any melee enemies who can reach you. You may move around the enemy but the moment you leave his range, he will attack you. Casting spells within range of a melee enemy also provoked and attack, the success of the spell is determined by a concentration check of 15+Double the spell level. If you fail you will be attacked and if the damage goes through you will have to make another concentration check to maintain casting the spell. Charge- Use Standard action and Move action to move twice as far and initiate and attack. Minimum of 10FT ( 2 Squares ) You also gain a +2 to Hit at the Cost of -2 to AC until your next go. You HAVE to move directly to your target with no obstructions. Double Move- You can sacrifice your standard action which allows you to move twice as far Combat Maneuver- Things like Disarm and trip will provoke and an attack of opportunity unless you have the feats that help with this. CMB vs CMD Flanking- if players are on opposite sides of an enemy and one is providing some kind of aggro you will gain +2 to Hit. Flat Footed- There’s many ways to be flat footed, Be it you Cant see your enemy or in the surprise round where players would not be expecting combat. Touch AC- Applies when you are able to dodge but cannot absorb the blow. For example a wizard using a spell that requires him to touch his target, would go against touch AC spells will specific if it’s against touch AC Spell casters- Your spells can vary depending on the length of the spell, A 1 round spell means you will begin casting that spell, until your next turn. It will not interfere with your turn. You still get your 3 actions. If you are casting and you are attacked you will have to roll a concentration check in order to finish the spell for your next turn. Concentration checks will be your casting level + casting modifying. Like INT or WIS if you fail the check, you loose your spell, if you succeed you still take the damage but your spell will still go off on your next turn. 5FT Step- You can move 5FT to prevent attacks of ops at the cost of your movement action. How ever you can still spend that movement action to draw a weapon or put a weapon away. Sizes- Large creatures tend to have reach which allows an additional 5FT (10FT radius) that allows attacks of opportunities and combat to take place Terrain- Difficult terrain halves your movement speed and you DO NOT get a 5FT Step Dropping Prone- During your turn as a free action you can drop to the floor. Range attacks vs you take a -4 to Hit you HOWEVER melee attacks against you gain a +4, It is a movement action to stand back up which also provoked attacks of op

Thanks for this. If nobody else is willing to say it, I will. Again thanks.
@hikkisan92633 жыл бұрын
Actually that’s incorrect. Drawing your weapon doesn’t provoke an opportunity attack, but stowing it does.
@steelixian17053 жыл бұрын
I dont know what your talking about. Sorry. This is an old post your replying to and all I did was copy what he said. And in my game drawing a weapon does provoke attack ops, Thats why we have things on the game that allow you to draw your weapon without provoking. Most things come down to GM discretion and common sense. Hope this answers what ever your trying to say.

In Pathfinder and 3.x (and possibly other systems I imagine?), diagonal movement is handled by a 1-2 rule to simplify calculation; first diagonal move is 1 square, then 2, then 1, and etc.

Have you made any new videos for PF1e? Just getting started with this system and learning the ins and outs....also, do you have a video on how Dodge works in the combat sequence?

On the first fighters attack on the gnoll ... even if it is normal combat (not surprise round) the gnoll is flat-footed. Everyone is considered flat-footed until their first action of the battle.

Great video! This explained things better than some of the other videos I've seen but still went into a little more depth. Straight to the point.

thanks for this, we aren't really using battled grid more theater of the mind in our 3.5 game but this is a good summary of the combat rules found in the 3.5 PHB for those who are using the grid and tactics

Started with 5e and this isn’t that much more complicated as long as you have everything written on your sheet there’s just three ACs, a little more complicated movement, and different action types I don’t see why everyone talks about it like it’s rocket science

Great informative video, though I think range attack was left out. You only explained the archers options to avoid attack of opportunity. It would have been great to clarify how it works if you shoot on an enemy with an ally next yo him and so on. But over all a great video.

I really like the Init tie breaker lol it does come up with 6+ combatants and rerolling just has a lot of difficulties, im totally adopting that rule right now
@MickKerrageous7 жыл бұрын
The Whistling reaper It's actually in the default rules to use the initiative modifier as the first tie-breaker; if still tied, roll a die: high roll acts first

Imagine a duel with pistols. The person that draws their gun faster (higher initiative) gets their shot off first and potentially takes out their opponent before they even get a chance to shoot back.

um yes they do unless you have the feat which gets rid of it
@MickKerrageous7 жыл бұрын
Dimitri Vuyadinov Drawing a weapon absolutely does NOT provoke an AoO; however, sheathing a weapon does. This information is taken directly from the Table:Actions in Combat from the Pathfinder SRD: www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/combat#TOC-The-Combat-Round
@steelixian17056 жыл бұрын
GM discretion I believe, I don’t see how drawing your weapon doesn’t provoke an attack. But putting your weapon away does. In a heated debate where enemies have there weapons out and you don’t, why the hell would they stand there watching you get ready to deal some pain

@@GetASenceOfHumor I you have not taken your first turn in any combat your flat footed. There are feats that get around this, but surprise doesn't matter.
@sujimayne4 жыл бұрын
@@charlesmurdock4065 That is literally THE ONLY mistake in this video. And he just confused taking out a weapon with sheathing it - only the latter provokes an attack of opportunity. That's it.
