I love that the this region has, for the most part, cultures that more often than mot help each other. Such a far cry from Avistan, where almost each nation has beef with another. The difference between Nine Walls and the Hold of Belkzen is so interesting! Seeing the way orcs are treated as well is a breath of fresh air from the mostly anti-orc sentiments in avistan, especially from human and dwarf communities.
@TheMythKeeper8 ай бұрын
Yeah, people are a product of their conditions. The cool thing is that things are changing in Avistan as well. Ardax the White Hair knows that he needs to find allies among the humans if he is to survive against the Whispering Tyrant, and for their part, humans will start to realize the same.
@rune59169 ай бұрын
Of the many interesting factions and cities in the Abendego Gulf area the city of Hyrantam, the city of Jaha and the Orc nation of the Nine-Walls are the most interesting. Each place sounds like a society where people of different ancestries and cultures coming together, in one form of cooperation or another, to overcome the trials and difficulties their society is facing. I think these make for interesting settings in which to flesh out complex player characters with emotional ties to these intriguing societies.
@TheMythKeeper9 ай бұрын
Yeah there is definitely an interesting trend in the whole Mwangi region. Whereas Avistan is "mostly humans" Garund is a lot more complex. Many cities are comprised of a whole range of ancestries, and while there's still a human-centric streak to much of the content, for folks looking for a bit more diversity of ancestries, this is a great place to play.
@rune59169 ай бұрын
@@TheMythKeeper Agreed, in Avistan I would honestly play ether a Dwarf, a Human or an Elf, in that order of priority. But in a campaign on Garund I would play an Iruxi, an Orc, a Half-Orc, a Tengu or an Anadi. The multicultural mix of ancestries are just more flavorful in Gerund.
@CooperativeWaffles8 ай бұрын
@rune5916 Let's not forget the Hobgoblin and Half-Orc/Half-Hobgoblin Ancestries. This local is a great source for the background of mixed, non-human Ancestry.

I was curious about the former nations that existed in what’s now the Sodden Lands, so thanks for this deep dive. Also there’s something so appealing about the idea of orcs coming to the surface, realizing “Oh crap there’s demons everywhere!”, deciding to team up with the locals.
@TheMythKeeper7 ай бұрын
Funny how in Belkzen, where the indigenous people were humans, the orcs were viewed as aggressors, but in the Mwangi Expanse where the indigenous people were elves they were viewed as potential allies. This locales gives us not only a different take on orcs, but a different take on elves too. Not the usual elitest bunch we typically get in most contemporary takes on elves, but a more pragmatic and open-minded people.

I always figured the Eye was where Aroden fell and his corpse remains.
@TheMythKeeper8 ай бұрын
Its a reasonable guess, I do believe there is a linear connection between Aroden's death and the storm but I think something more complicated happened. Some thoughts - The heart of the meteorite was a powerful artifact called the Starstone which Aroden raised from the sea to create Absalom. This stone is so powerful it can create gods. The Abendego Gulf was also created during the Earthfall, as the meteor broke up in the atmosphere. Could there be a second starstone? Or another piece of it? It is noteworthy that no one has used the Starstone to become a God since Aroden's death in 4606. Could his death have affected the starstone currently in Absalom? Could his death have affected the pieces of the shattered meteor elsewhere in Golarion? I don't know the answer to these questions, but they are food for thought.
@taylorturner58528 ай бұрын
@@TheMythKeeperCorrect me if I am wrong, but didn’t Iomedae pass the star stone trial a few years following Arodens death?
@TheMythKeeper8 ай бұрын
@@taylorturner5852 Nope, Iomedae passed the test of the starstone after they won the Shining Crusade against Tar-Baphon. She ascended to divinity not long after the death of Arazni, Aroden's previous herald, and after she became divine, she actually served Aroden as his herald for many centuries until Aroden's eventual death, at which point she became 'The Inheritor' and took on many of his worshipers.
@MagmaRiver8 ай бұрын
This is a common belief, but not the case, though it is closely tied to Aroden's death! You see, Aroden died when he slipped in the bathtub and hit his head. The Worldwound is created at the point in reality where he hit his head. The Eye of Abendego was caused because no one has been able to enter his Divine Realm to turn off the shower. This will actually be dealt with during the upcoming War of Immortals, where Aroden's Divine Landlord returns to find out why Aroden is so far behind on his rent, and demands the remaining Gods of Golariom pay his back rent. This is all Very Serious And Totally Legit Lore. I am an accredited Theologian.

After playing Pathfinder Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous, and having a rather lacking grasp of the overall lore but enough to really get a taste for it, I ended up finding your channel. The presentation and the love for the universe makes your work so appealing. I especially love the Deep-dives into the various geopolitical powers. Here's a question - One piece of lore that has been hard to "get" as someone who does not have a background whatsoever in table-top gaming is the actual modules you can play through. The Adventure paths and things like this. Have you considered doing lore videos following the stories of these adventure paths? You have touched on things from them when they appear in the regional videos, but it would still be great to see you go through the Adventure Paths!

No I'm a complete amateur. Never did anything like this before I made my first video. I'm not even using paid tools - they're all free tools. HitFilm is free (and easy to learn) and the GIMP which I use to edit images and maps is also free. It just goes to show that its not that difficult. Honestly the hardest thing is audio. Audio is still a problem for me here and there. I get a lot of background noise because I live downtown in a big city and the baffling doesn't always help. Tools that clean up audio are not easy to use, so I have to re-record a lot.
