You can't get precision damage from a javelin with flying blade as a javelin isn't agile or finesse
@TheRulesLawyerRPG3 ай бұрын
ADDITIONS/ERRATA: -You ALWAYS have Precise Strike's bonus damage with a qualifying attack. Panache enables to you to use more-damaging finishers. -The idea of contrasting it to D&D's rogue subclass obviously came late in the process: I thought it was important to mention, but I don't really go into it here. The TL;DR is the D&D swashbuckler basically lets you disengage from what you attack (which your 2nd-level bonus action Disengage was already kinda giving you) and lets you Sneak Attack an isolated foe (which your allies should be helping you with anyway). Panache makes an enemy want to turns its attention to you... and that's it? No debuffing, no impressing or dazzling anyone in combat. It's hobbled by (1) not being its own class (duh), but also (2) it doesn't really utilize the potential in skills (3) or have in-combat RP moments, and (4) the action/bonus action system reduces the possibilities for design and play. -3:01 I misspeak and say panache gives you a bonus to some skill checks. That was part of the old panache; now your bonus to those checks is constant once combat starts! -The Bravado trait says you can gain panache even if the creature is immune to your action (e.g., you Bon Mot a mindless creature, or Demoralize the same creature more than once)! -18:00 Javelin can't benefit from Precise Strike because it's neither agile nor finesse, but there are many other thrown weapons that are -22:48 your 1st Strike gaining the Bravado trait does NOT give it a +2 bonus; it just allows you to possibly get a 2nd finisher.

Furthermore, ever since Treasure Vault and Player Core 1, running with a Buckler is actually a whole lot more appealing with runes to bring your buckler more up to speed with a Sturdy Shield in terms of hp/bt and hardness, as well as gaining access to more unique and interesting 'special' bucklers. But yes, the access to Shield Block as well as the stance feat that allows you to ignore uisng the Raise a Shield action (while the equivilants for dueling and Twin parry were not remade, and the original versions require feats that are now outdated with no reprinting of, I would 'imagine' that is fairly clear on what Paizo intended there). I believe this is a pretty good reason to considerany of the 3 options depending on tbe kind of build you are aiming for. There is already so many ways to easily gain panache now that not having the more consistsnt means from dueling/twin parry isnt a huge loss if you would rather have the better defensiveness and the later action econemy of a buckler.

Some remarks: - Bravado applies even if the enemy is immune. So Wit and Braggart can gain Panache from enemies immune to Mental without issues. That is why "Prepare for disappointment" has a separate Cooldown. - the base Precision damage is always active. It is not tied to Panache anymore - The Buckler defense Feat has the Auto-Raise Stance. The Parry Feats don't. That is why the parry feats are stronger naturally.

One thing I think is overlooked about dirty trick is the fact it has both the attack and the manipulate traits which I am convinced is a mistake. The attack trait, as you mentioned, affects MAP while the manipulate trait provokes reactive strike. Having as a main tool an ability that lowers your accuracy for a follow up finisher AND possibly triggers a reactive strike or some other reaction AND makes you prone on a crit fail for just clumsy 1 seems like just too much of a risk. If I were to guess, dirty trick is meant to have either attack or manipulate but not both.

A thing that's cool with the updated disarming flair is that ANY style of swashbuckler can use it and get panache and you could even combine it with Sly disarm, if you either archetype to swashbuckler as a rogue or the other way around. I'm not sure if that's a misprint in the Swashbuckler Archetype. There are class dedications that give features that don't do much when you get them (e.g., getting a Gunslinger Way but not "any other abilities from your choice of way"), but are prerequisites for other feats.
@TheRulesLawyerRPG3 ай бұрын
But none of the later feats in the archetype give you the missing benefits in this case
@Brellic3 ай бұрын
@@TheRulesLawyerRPG Ah, fair point. Plus there's the fact that the old version of the dedication DOES grant those benefits and I don't think they meant to debuff it. Objection withdrawn. Edit: Just noticed something that may or may not be related: They changed the phrasing on the "Swashbuckler's Speed" archetype feat. The version on AoN now says "Increase the status bonus to your Speeds when you have panache to a +10-foot status bonus; you also gain a +5-foot status bonus to your Speeds when you don't have panache." Making it clear that you already have a speed bonus from having panache that it increases with this feat. The version in PC2 (squinting at my screen) just says "You gain a +5-foot status bonus to your Speeds; this increases to a +10 status bonus when you have panache." Although they may have just opted for clearer language and not intended to change anything.

my take on flyi g blade: Flying blade is not a finisher so they needed to specify the addition of the precision damage . Since twirling throw is a finisher it adds the multiple d6 to the damage if you have panache regardless of the range.
@TheRulesLawyerRPG3 ай бұрын
Finishers have Xd6 damage because they key-off of the Precise Strike class feature, which explicitly says it only applies to melee weapons or unarmed attacks. What Flying Blade is doing is creating an exception to the class feature, extending it to thrown weapons but only in their first range increment.

It's also super cool and kinda game-changing that it stacks with off-guard. Would be super good on for example a rogue together with his grapple-happy fighter party member. Well, I think it makes sense for the rascal to get MAP with their special actions since it's the only one that is a Dex-based action. All the other options depend on an atribute that isn't their class atribute and Tumble Through doesn't get the bravado trait, meaning it doesn't get the circumstance bonus which is there to make the other options equivalent to Tumble Through. This means the rascal special stuff is that it has a +1 over everyone else compared to the other subclasses to get panache, so it should have something to make up for it. We see a similar design in the Starfinder 1e operative who gets a bonus to make their trick attack check but it gets a lower bonus to Dex-based skills for that. I do agree it sucks for the feat itself, since it otherwise feels like a worse Demoralize, which is free, so I don't see the point in taking it on my Thief rogue while having a charisma-heavy party with no casters either (we do have a scroll thaumaturge in case we need the utility, though).

Having these rules codified IS a big help, but man it does not sell well to casual players at all.

because the 5e verision is a shitty rogue class that barely changes anything about the class

I think you aren't meant to get stylish combatant, and instead deal more damage I guess?

I'm confused as to why Dirty Trick is referred to as a "general feat". Technically true, but it's really a skill feat, and the other feats gained from the subclasses are referred to as skill feats.
@TheRulesLawyerRPG3 ай бұрын
it's both a general feat and skill feat ("general" in PF2 means any class can take it. When you gain a general feat it can be a skill feat or non-skill feat. Yeah it's confusing lol) To be clearer here I probably should have called it a skill feat since all non-archetype skill feats are also general feats

skill feats are technically general feats, but they also have the 'skill' trait. all skill feats are general feats, but not all general feats are skill feats.
@AnonSeacat3 ай бұрын
@@TheRulesLawyerRPG I'm aware that all skill feats are general feats, but it's odd to me that they refer to the feats granted by the other subclasses as skill feats but Dirty Trick in particular as a general feat. Like I said, it's technically true, it just strikes me as a weird way to write the feature.

Another thing that makes Dirty Trick rather lackluster is that it's a Manipulate action that requires you to be within melee with your target. So it triggers Reactive Strikes from enemies who have it, the same as Tumble Through. So Rascal Swashbucklers won't have an option for gaining Panache that does not provoke reactions.

I don’t get this channel’s obsession with making everything about dnd 5e. We get it, you don’t like that system. Stop turning your Pathfinder videos into 5e hate/rage bait. I promise there is an audience (myself included) for videos that just celebrate/critique/review 2e.

Don't be disingenuous; you do know why he constantly makes comparisons with 5e. 5e is the most played TTRPG of all time and is a direct rival of Pathfinder 2e in the market; it is reasonable to emphasize the advantages of Pathfinder 2e over it. Don't conflate critique with rage bait.

Well as it turns out it worked: this was the most successful non-Alchemist remaster video. Thanks for the engagement!

And this is exactly why pathfinder 2 is trash, it’s unnecessarily complicated, and the numbers involved are real fucking stupid
