Hi, I was wondering how conservative ILE's numbers were, they say 16 litres when rolled down and water tight but how much leeway is there? like if you put more in does it still roll down ok? I just can't decide whether it's quite big enough for a full commutes worth of stuff - clothes, lunchbox, laptop, etc.

That looks fantastic. I had been using my front rack to strap down random stuff or a sausage roll with my sleeping gear, but that is handy! The larger one fits my rack on my porteur bike just about perfectly.

Important to note, I believe they use a welded construction on their liner so it is in fact fully waterproof.

This so reminds me of putting drop bars on my rigid mtb back in the 90s - along with a front rack, and just chilling in the woods. As I recall I used a regular blackburn rear rack and cut it in half. Things have come a long way since then apparently :)

Just got this, same color full size. I love waxed canvas bc it’s a timeless material and the liner inside is totally waterproof so I can trust this in rain and snow. The connection straps underneath are absurdly too long. I may cut them. No porteur rack is that big. You gotta tighten them down hard to keep the bag from sliding all over as you ride. I wish the deployable tie-down straps were removable or at least less bulky. I won’t use them often and I would like the space open in the flap pocket on top for papers, tickets, etc. the phone/wallet pockets that face the cockpit are awesome but might be slightly too small for big phones. The bottom of the bag being semi rigid is nice but I would love more padding as I put my work laptop in there and don’t want dings. I don’t love the plastic buckles and would prefer a more premium metal clasp for the money this costs. Biggest strength of this bag is its surprising capacity for the form factor. You can fit so much in here, like way more than you’d think. But when it’s not too full it rolls down nice and sleek without taking up much space at all. Very versatile bag and it’s nice to not need a wald basket. Excited to put it to the test this winter. Wish there were more color options in the canvas.

@ I have been using it daily for two months now, looking at it as I type this haha. It’s been great! Many rainstorms in recent weeks and the waterproofing can’t be beat. I switched from strapping it to the front rack to installing a basket and just dropping it in there. I wish all bike bags were easy to get on and off and so far baskets are the only way to do that. This bag has done countless grocery runs, work commutes and fun rides and I’m still loving it. Only two cons I have noticed are that the bag does a poor job insulating temperature, like hot food will get cold for example. And the bag holds odors really bad. I’ve had to febreeze the inside a couple times.

I’ve gone with the basket packing life rather than the demi porteur. I like the structure and flexibility that the 137 gives me ... I’ve got four different bags that can fit well in the basket, and all I use is one Rokstrap to hold it all in place. But I can certainly appreciate that this setup allows for oversized items much more easily.

I’ve had a version of this bag made for MASH SF for the last two years. Mine a Xpac version and I’ve found it to be water resistant and super adaptable. ILE makes some other really cool off the bike bags. I’ve used the mini camera bag for a number of years, all their bags are thoughtfully designed.

Do you know what the difference is between the Mash SF one and the regular one?

@@julian-w5h the Mash one is constructed specifically to fit the Mash front rack. It has corners on the bottom of the bag and a slot for the back of the rack. Wavey Wheelies on KZbin has a full breakdown of the bag and rack.

Hey Russ I've got a bag hack you could pilot if you're interested. I use a "North Face XS Base Camp Duffle" and replaced the side-cinching pieces with buckles so I can strap it to my front rack. More of a porteur sized setup but works well on and off the bike! :) Keep up the good stuff. Love the channel

I like the looks of this bag...Russ, did you ever do a full review on the Sackville bag that you had on the Riv? I'm leaning that way because it'd be a perfect fit for a laptop, couple books, layers, etc... for a work commute.

No reply to any emails or comments on their IG page in long long time. I personally wouldn’t order anything from them until they publicly explain the utter lack of communication to customers for the last 9 months. They seem to be belly up, but with no confirmation either way. Very strange behavior.

based on the dimensions, you'd want to use the larger Wald 139, as it's 15'" wide by 10" deep. As long as the buckles fit, it should work fine

so what gets me with the design and its typical of all the rack bags/ saddle bags out there is the lack of internal structure on the bottom, back and sides, it would be great if a bag maker would make bags that held their shape when empty and or not completely full, kinda how motorcycle saddle bags work.

hey can you maybe take a look at the Atran Velo Fiets Transport Bakkersrek. if you search that you'll probably find it. its on a dutch site so the shipping could be really expensive in wich case you don't have to review it. it a little front rack for a little under 12,50 dollars wich is dangerously cheap. id love to hear from you and as always, keep the supple side down
