I know I’m late but this video is a great example of shape theory. Dankovsky his depicted with more sharpe angles which shows power but also shows aggression and violence. Burakh is depicted with a more square shape which can be imposing but also stable and denoting tradition. Clara is depicted with smooth soft edges and circles this is indicative of the fact she is the most empathetic of the characters and the one who seeks to do the least damage.

This video just made me realize that the three characters represent Mind, Body, and Soul. The Bachelor is a very intelligent and logical man who doesn’t care much for emotions or those that he thinks lesser. He also doesn’t like getting his hands dirty unless he has to and gets into much less fights than the Haruspex. He wants to let the past die so that the future can thrive without being held down by old ways. The Haruspex is the strongest of the three physically. He is more compassionate and spiritual than the Bachelor while being more grounded than the Changeling. He seeks to protect and help the weak often to the detriment of the strong. Despite being a kind surgeon who wants to do the right thing he ends up having to kill and hurt others to survive. He wants to sacrifice the future in order to preserve the past and it’s traditions. Lastly the Changeling embodies the spirit. She has been gifted with incredible power that can both heal and hurt others. She is the youngest of the three and as such the most irrational. She has great faith in both others and the powers that be. She wants to protect the ways of the future and past to create a better world from both. Though the three main characters conflict throughout the game they are tied to each other and cannot succeed without each other.

SPOILER You can even note this when Clara's ending can save the town and even preserve the polyedron. In Danii's ending he choses to let the military destroy the city in order to protect the polyedron. And Artemy decides to kill Bohdo and destroy the Polyedron to save the city.

You can also see it the way that they all represent a core behaviour in a disaster: Daniil represents logical thinking, not leaving much to chance or superstition. Despite his paper being on a way to achieve immortality (which is quite supernatural), it had to be based on facts and research, not hearsay nor observation, which is why Simon's death meant he couldn't finish it. For him, the disease is purely a bacterium lifted from below ground. Artemy would be traditionalism: While working with things that do work, he's not brushing away things that are untested or outside of "traditional" medicine, that being medicine based on scientific consensus. For him, the plague has to do with the very real spirits and lore of the Steppe, the god the town is built upon being hurt by the Polyhedron's base Clara would be faith. She asks of the two others to purely believe that she can work a miracle. And, despite the fact she genuinely can do it, it's a hard sell. As the player we know better, for we can both play as her and see that her powers are real, and that her ending indeed saves the town, with the price of the Humbles' sacrifice, but for Daniil and Artemy it's either highly illogical for the former or a denial of the local lore for the latter (that girl thinks she can be more powerful than the tutelary god?) All of them are valid behaviours, and in the context of Pathologic all can cure and save people. But their visions are deeply incompatible.

This was fucking great, but one single little miniscule complain. When the show ends all of them go out in different ways. Daniil goes for the stair because it is the most logical and straight forward path. He care not about keeping the illusion with the audience. (In this context being the city, I think) Artemy exits from the back of the stage because he is more in tone with the people of the city. After all he is a local and understands them. He maintains the illusion between the audience and the actors. Clara cares not about illusion too, but her reasoning is different. She better understands the play then Daniil and Artemy. Also that smile on the shadow of Clara at the end, priceless.

"medicum morbo adhibe" roughly translates to something like "summon the doctor for matters of death". The other line "sub ipsum fumum sumus" (he says 'fumus' but this is grammatically incorrect and probably unintentional) means "we are underneath the smoke/fume itself" it can also alternatively be translated as "we are underneath the sign itself" and I'm not sure which it should be given the context, either works, so it's possible that this is an intentional pun (though to understand Latin well enough to make puns in it but also make such a novice mistake as confusing the nominative and accusative singular cases is a bit strange, so I somewhat doubt this conclusion). Anyway, thought y'all might be curious about what those silly little pretentious phrases mean lol
@elinquisidorperseverante68352 жыл бұрын
I think the mistake is purposeful, maybe it's just how it came off to me, but Daniil's latin always felt pretentious and only for show, so it'd make sense if he made mistakes . Regardless of my interpretation, thanks for the translation man! Really appreciate it

I’ve watched this so many times it’s amazing. The movement the lighting, the distinct shapes of each character that shows exactly who they are and gives them each a huge presence on the stage. The way Clara is so physical with the other healers, letting lighting tell the story for her, she bounces off the two of them, making almost every word she speaks ominous in a way despite how much smaller she is compared to daniil and Artemy, offset by her standing on the table. The smile her shadow has while she shrugs at the camera-the way Artemy sticks back until he has something to say, letting his physical size be his presence, much less animated than the others because he knows in his heart and soul he is right. (Of course all the healers think they’re right, but his lack of chewing the scenery really assured me. He doesn’t need to overcompensate, he’s doing this out of duity.) daniil’s *shape* just how top heavy he is, as if he could be knocked over at any second, how most of his silloette is his coat and bag, to the point it’s almost swallowing him like his own ego. Without it, he’s nothing. it almost has a bigger presence than he does. The only scene this doesn’t hold true is “the truth is my Shepard” But once again I really is Clara who steals the show, I can’t pick a favorite scene for her I love every moment. She’s so dynamic!

This is so incredible!!!!!! You really bring the characters to life here, all their movements fit so well, I can see it all playing out! Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh (and Clara’s little shrug to the player at the end, incredible) - Also side note I love the way you’ve designed the characters, such striking silhouettes :0 I’m in aweeeee

Omg this is so gooooooood! I must rewatch it and find my favorite moments to point out. I love how much life it breathes into the opening scene, which has some stilted acting but there's a spark of genius to it. This brings that genius out.

Dankovsky wants to use his wits to solve the town but his wits could be misguided into helping the wrong people rise to power. (The bachelor rout) 0:55 and 1:33 Burakh wants to use his tradition to cure the sand pest but his tradition would cause the destruction of the town. (The Haruspex rout) 1:45 and 2:40 Clara wants to use her miracles to save the people but her miracles end with sacrifices (The Changeling route) 1:02 and 2:13 It's like each of them have read the endings of each others scripts but not their own.

When Clara says "I know what to do" and the music kicks in it's a really creepy scene. On the other hand when Artemy called Daniil clever cloggs I almost thought there would be the symbols similar to ones floating around in a Jojo meme

I literally watch this all the time now. It's SO GOOD! Your over the top, spotlight stealing Clara, the expressions Daniil makes, Artemy in general.... man. I love the audio in this scene, and the animatic just brings it to life in a way that really makes this the best thing ever. Thank you for your service.
