I met one of my static members and we went snowboarding and while I knew their real name I never called them by it. They even called me by name in game name in public too and it felt normal even tho my game character is a girl with a girl name while I'm a dude irl lol. It even irks me that some would call me by my rl name cause that's not how they know me. I also play fighting games and lots of my friends called me by my gamer tag too despite knowing my real name. It's just natural feeling

This among a couple other experiences is why I just exist when in the game, but don't really get to know people that much. 12 years ago I was all about getting to know people, doing content together, possibly even meeting up. However, over the last 10 years I've learned that is never really worth it as for some reason in ffxiv background drama seems to be some kind of wide spread necessity. It is really weird to say the least.

Yeah this is pretty much what I learned too, although for different reasons, from 2004 to like 2013 I was living in ffxi. I basically lived the social aspect of what was in SAO. In the end though most of it was a lot more trouble then what it was worth. That’s why when all my friends and LS switched to 14 I left for a new server when it went live. More so everything in 14 is so kinda fast paced when not raiding so I never felt a need to get close after ARR. now I just sit on a FC of just me and do dailys lol

I was debating if I wanted to use an anon account because I realized after I submitted this there were a few things that werent explained 😅... long story short what happened was I offered Max my spare ticket(he still had to pay me though) because me and the person I'm happily with now were in the first 6 months of our relationship when tickets came around and I wasnt 100% sure at the time that our relationship would make it to fanfest since we were still getting used to one another. I considered myself close with Max at the time since we became coworkers in 2020 and continued to be good friends outside of work through video games and he lives here in Vegas as well so that's why I offered it to him. Also I felt it was a big ask to get my boyfriend to travel across the country at the time, even though when fanfest came around a few months later we decided to start traveling to one another every few months. (also i know in the vid they werent sure if I asked max first before the tickets, and no lol I straight up asked him during fanfest day 1 since we were hanging out together)

My and BF call eachother by our in game names( and nicknames from the game) because it’s special for us- also-- we found out in irl, we have similar names!!! We have a good laugh about this.

11:50 --- I mean, to be fair: there is no right time for a break-up if you're on the receiving end of business... It sucks but there are many people who prefer to ghost others when they are displeased, because they dont like confrontations of any sort. It may be cowardly but some people just are like that. Though we all claim open communication is key, speaking your mind makes you vulnerable, so people decide rather than do the right thing they just ignore the problem and move on: if I dont see it, its not there.

Yeah, I personally prefer to call many of my online friends by their in-game aliases. It feels weird otherwise. There are a few exceptions (mostly with writer friends, since it is actually better *to* separate them from the character), but largely with those I game with, their alias is their identity.

I met my closest FFXIV friends multiple times, with some I even had holidays together, and we always stick to our character names, which I am totally fine with. I mean, we knew each other for like 2 years before we started meeting up, that's a long time to simply let those habits go. Those are like nicknames, and we are all okay with it. :)

I think we need to use the law of averages in this story… The common denominator seems to be the person who wrote the story. They seem to have had problems with everybody they were involved with. in my opinion person writing the story might’ve been more of a psycho than they come off to be. I’d really like to hear from some of these other people and get their side of the story.

OP sounds a little exhausting to be friends or in a relationship with tbh. I think they’re just not ready for a relationship or to be with someone in person long term, it also seems to be a goal out of playing the game. Asking someone to be silent for hours is a lot to ask out of someone. They seem to burn a lot of bridges. It’s hard to tell if they’re the issue or they’re choosing the wrong people to form bonds with.

Piano concert was Saturday and it was amazing. We went to the club Saturday night after the Piano performance.

I think using in-game names irl is ok when it's a friendship that was born in-game. The only time in-game friends should drop the in-game names and use irl names is when the relationship starts to blossom into a more romantic space because things start to get very personal between both people. That's just my opinion.
