my father made me watch this film and full metal jacket before I enlisted. He was a Vietnam vet and to this day says these are the two of the most "real" war movies. As far as basic training nothing will ever beat FMJ. Anyway, the real question here is when are we gonna get a breakdown of what is obviously a well curated guitar and bass collection? (also great content keep it up!)

13:53 "Obviously, they wouldn't blow someone up." That is a mighty bold assumption for Kubrick

I watched this film a few years ago without knowing anything about it or about Kubrick. I loved it. It surprised me that a movie like that would be made in the 1950s.

First movie i rented on Netflix (back in the dvd by mail days). I was so excited, because i wanted to rent it from Blockbuster but they never had it. It was not what I expected, but I loved it. One of Kubrick's top 10 films 😅

Love this film so much! I think it was really clever to make a film about WW1, which is generally viewed as a much less popular war than WW2. Having the film take place in France w/ a bunch of American and British actors was also clever, I think it was a real vibe check for the allied powers -- the idea that the "good" guys are by no means infallible and were just as capable of brutality as the axis powers I also think the performances in this film are really excellent, way ahead of their time

The vibe check idea is a really interesting way to look at this movie! I read they got a lot of criticism for having them all speak American English, but I'm like eh, it meant I could understand it. It was an American company making a movie about a French historical event for an American audience; if the French wanted to make their own movie about George Washington crossing the Delaware and do it all in French for their audiences, that makes sense to me.
