@@roselover411 I am just curious on whether it's entirely possible not to talk about it in front of other people. During my last vaccine shot at a pharmacy, there was another lady getting her meds and the people there were checking if she knows how to take it. I am pretty sure many waiting there could hear about the name of the drug and other stuff. How do you really not talk about it? feels almost impossible to me
@roselover4112 жыл бұрын
@@kerstiny4698 I mean the main thing is not to reveal personal information about the patient. Some places are better about it than others, but if you give patient information that can be used to identify them aloud when others are very close by, that's a breach of information. In pharmacies they will sometimes ask other people to please back up and give others some space to make it harder to hear that personal information. You generally need a collection of information to make that happen, including name and birthdate along with other things. And what medication someone is taking is not enough to make that clear. Hundreds of thousands of people are on the same med, it's hard to identify specific people with just that information. But in a hospital setting, you have a specific building there with a specific number of people and information about the case details of that one patient in front of another like that is a huge no-no. It's too easy to find out details when you have enough information like that, and also it's just gauche. Really? You're talking about how a patient died in your care in front of someone that's meant to trust you with their own life? Not the best practice, doc. Like you can have a doctor tell you "I had a patient with this problem and here's what we did about it" and that's fine. That's got no personal details attached that you could use to find that person. But with the general way TV doctors talk around patients and families (you would NEVER talk about the healthcare of a patient in the middle of a hallway at a clinic or hospital. Never. You always do that in an enclosed room to help ensure patient and family privacy), there's so much procedure about that that is really wrong and would lead to endless HIPAA violations in the process. Healthcare workers (I'm a pharmacy technician, as it happens) go through extensive training to avoid that as much as possible. It's easier for TV to show them doing these things because TV doesn't actually have to imitate life that closely and the number of locations they have to use can really affect things, but it rubs me the wrong way whenever I see it cuz I'm so aware of the proper protocol for it.

As much as I love this case- I have a hard time believing that a neurosurgeon would go through with such a complicated and life altering surgery to split his corpus callosum (the fibers that allow the left and right hemispheres to communicate), without ruling out every single possible cause of the seizures, including potentially toxic chemicals.
@dasblondesauerkraut5869 Жыл бұрын
This is a real concept in biology, you can google it. If you split the two halves of the brain, they can function but the two hands for instance would get often in the way of each other, as the brain halves are not communicating with each other anymore. Also, it would be very difficult to make a decision as each half pulls you into a different direction. In order for us to function normally, the one brain half is always silenced, meaning that there is a clear "boss half" having the upper hand.

I was always disappointed that the redhead in this, Maria Thayer, never really got a big break. She's so good in everything, drama and comedy. She's super cute, and is not against showing some skin sometimes. I don't watch a lot of current TV, maybe she did..

why didn't this half of the brain use a tablet to refer to deodorant

I'm confused, when they say right brain, it appears to be his left. This episode must be mirrored

The right brain controls the left side of the body and the left brain controls the right side.

gah so cool, love this episode, buut... if it knew the deo was such a problem, did it not know that any sooner? did he have to wrestle with it to apply the stuff multiple times a day?

I had to go to hospital because of antiperspirant that was working too well. I was in a new country with extreme heat. I worked in an environment without air-conditioning and played basketball for a couple of hours each day right after work. It got bad.

So how did the episode end?
@martwyMozg2 жыл бұрын
It was actually said at the end of this clip - the patient suffered with alien hand syndrome, Scott (patient), is really suffering from a reaction to an ingredient in the industrial-strength antiperspirant he uses

@@martwyMozg Thank you 😊 I must've missed that part. 👍🏻

@@k8tina no worries - sometimes in those episodes diagnosis was weirder so I see how confusing it might be when we watch just a part of episode :) hugs
